My theory that EDC is a perfectly engineered marketing collaboration keeps proving itself to be true. The self perpetuating motive of seeking out practical tools that is further reinforced by the "tacticool" factor becomes endless. I find myself constantly fantasizing about the form and function of an EDC pack, whether it be my waistbelt or in a backpack. Role playing the What-IF scenarios over and over.

What ends up actually happening is that I buy all this stupid shit and it just sits on my night stand, and almost none of it ever comes with me in public. And when I get back home my EDC is still sitting there right where I left it.

If you don't mind splurging, your best choices will be the charge tti or arc.
Wave+ if you want the exact same functionality for much less money, surge if you want a tank.

I'd personally go for the charge, I have an arc but I prefer the charge ergos. The arc has a bunch of hotspots if you use it for longer. And I can effortlessly operate the charge and wave one handed if I have to.

On the subject of spoons though, here's my French spoon. I do French military as a hobby outside of work, and me and my Bros got a 3D scan of an original, 3D printed silicone mold, and then cast copies off of it.

Would it be retarded to carry a utility knife (with removable razor blades) rather than a typical folding pocket knife?

Keys, wallet, phone, royvonn and mini leatherman on the keys. almost always carry a knife and pen of some kind. if I take my man purse a leatherman, wet wipes, flashlight and headlamp charging bank and cables, pen, paper, usually snacks.

I always take this bag with me when I leave the house. It's a 24 hour pack in the event I need to get home in a distance of ~20-30 miles. I can do 20 miles in about 7 hours. If I had to go 30, I would split it over two days. What's not seen here are my consumables, which include 2 liters of water and about 2000 calories worth of long-term food. Overall pack weight is 13 lbs.

Get a Swiss Army Knife. A leatherman is most often too heavy and cumbersome. Skeletool is neat, but lacks proper tooling.

To be honest, any serious flashlight brand (Streamlight, Fenix, Nitecore, Olight,...) will do the trick if you're not using it for your job. Just be sure that the controls aren't too complicated, that it's waterproof, and that the battery lasts long enough for your intended use. A rechargeable battery is probably better for a civilian, the only point of CR123A nowadays is to be able to change them fast when needed and when there isn't any way to recharge your batteries. The pros will talk about thermal regulation and shit like that but it honestly doesn't really matter for casual use. Strobes are also a meme, looking directly at a 1000+ lumen flashlight will make you temporarily blind no matter what. I've been using a cheap Klarus E1 since 2019 or so and it served me well, I never had a problem with it. Flashlight autism is even more intense than knife enthusiasts autism, don't think too much about it.

They're pretty good. You can own any knife that isn't a quick eject blade I'm pretty sure. Things like karambits are free game

I have tape, foil, string and wire, a flattened box of matches, some alcohol swabs and a pencil in my wallet. On my chest pocket I keep a longer pencil, taped lighter and more string, in my pocket I have a leatherman but will switch it for a vict. Huntsman soon. I plan to kit that out with needle and thread, magnet and some more tape and matches because why not.
I am looking for a solution to carry a map of my local area and a compass too, but nothing seems to fit snugly.

I use a setup on an ALICE belt and suspenders for overnight hikes. There are more modern and comfortable versions of what I'm doing but I still like my setup better than a day pack or rucksack.
