>50 lighters for $50
>1 quality ferro rod for $20, imaginary 3 pack for $50
>each lighter worth 2500-3000 lights
>each rod worth 8000-12000 strikes
>50 bics X 2500 lights = 125,000 potential fires
>3 rods X 12000 strikes = 36,000 potential fires
Even if you're successful with one perfect ferro rod strike per fire, and it takes 3 attempts to light a fire with each shitty bic, you still get over 6,000 more fires out of the same 50 dollar bill. Plus all the other advantages that come with a more reliably flame-producing single-strike pocket-sized piece of equipment, like melting the ends of fraying ropes while away from camp or whatever other non-autist uses you can imagine.

When I'm alone in the wilderness, I don't give a fuck how cool I look since nobody's around anyway. Also, it's embarrassing that anyone would have to use any sort of lighter to light a fire.

For some reason Bics are near impossible to find here in the UK. When I have used them they seem so small like they will run out fast, but I have limited experience of them.

For me it's clippers. They are very wind resistant, they last a long time (despite not having a flame size adjuster), you can refill them since the flint last a long time, and I like the shape.

Hey bozo, two quick questions- does a bic have a flint? How about steel?
>>
>>2768778
One quick question. Have you ever started a fire without using a cigarette lighter?
>>
>>2768780
Yes. I frequently use flint and steel akshually. But here's the thing- I have my flint and steel rigged up in this plastic contraption that is portable, reliable, cheap, and durable.
>>
>>2768780
Do you hunt all your meals with a sharpened rock on a stick?

What is your logic behind using a flint and steel? Steel is a fairly modern invention and ferro rods are made in a factory in China. So obviously it isn't tradition. Lighters are pretty light, about the same mass as a ferro rod. So it isn't weight. My guess is you saw it in an anime.
>>
>>2768781
>plastic

>>2768782
Because I prefer not using disposable plastic junk. And I'm a bowhunter.
>>
>>2768784
>I'm a bowhunter

>>
>>2768787
this guy has actually tried to use a zippo.

zippos look pretty cool but are fucking useless compared to even cheap gas station lighters, let alone the gold standard Bic
>>
>>2768784
Lol you know I am also a bowhunter, but I'd never be so cringe as to say it like that. I mean I could go even further and try to have a cringe-off with you and explain that I even use traditional archery. But I don't see any reason to go there.

I bowhunt because it's sport, and I find it fun. But I'm not going to sit here like a retard and pretend a bow isn't inferior to a gun kek. Hunting is sport, starting a fire is utility. And a bic lighter is probably one of the most utilitarian items man has ever made.
>>
>>2768746
There’s a subset of people (retards) who believe that outdoor activities shouldn’t be easy or comfortable, but also shouldn’t be completely income for table or really hard either. They’ll carry a 45lb pack but 80lbs is just ridiculous. They’ll use a fero rod but using a fire bow is just too far.
>>
>>2768798
>people are retards for hiking with a heavier pack
It's called training you drooling low-IQ subhuman. If that's too much for you to handle, you could start by putting the tub of ice cream down and doing some squats.

>>
>>2768826
sounds cool. i just wouldn't bother. they are heavy, they leak, they don't work at odd angles, and they might just stop working on day 5 when you expected 7 days.

i mean bro i was 19 once too. can you do the trick where you flip open the zippo and snap your fingers to light it? bitches love that shit. or they used to back in 1998. but your zippo should stay at home when you go /out/.

I learned this the hard way. They are good for home smoking because the CLICK-CRRSHH sound they make when you open/close them is very relaxing, and almost becomes part of the experience. The smell is also enjoyable. But for when you need a reliable flame? Even a decent box of matches would be preferable. I have a copper coloured one that makes me happy, it's like having a Ford Model T just for the fun of it, and then using a modern car for actual daily tasks.

>>2768774
I enjoy Bic as a company, short for ubiquitous -- present, appearing, or found everywhere. Those ballpoint pens were THE pen you saw everywhere up until say 5-10 years ago, they had that market absolutely nailed down. My problem is that I never wrote well with them no matter how hard I tried.

But yeah, there must be a lighter embargo between England and France because you won't find those little Bic lighters for sale anywhere here, and you won't see anyone using them.
>>
>>2768829
Typically it stays home but sometimes I like to carry the Zippo due to nostalgia and as an extra option in very cold weather.
