>>2767272Did you get to hike/see any of the effects of the flooding recently?
Did the narrows hike at zion this week, ended up being over 10 miles in total. Little changes in elevation but very technical. First time I ever felt a walking stick felt needed as it helped to balance while walking over wet rocks almost constantly.1/5You pass this little waterfall right before the first deep water section (can get up to chest level a few times).
>>27801132/5
>>27801143/5Despite being close to 100 degrees outside the narrows, inside it felt like around 65 degrees, sometimes with a strong breeze which felt great. Started at 8am, finished around 4pm and most of the time there was no direct sunlight, so by the time I was done I had hardly sweat (or used my sunglasses or hat), didn't need much water and probably could've skipped sunscreen. Temperature-wise it was the most comfortable hike I've ever been on, surface-wise the most uncomfortable.
>>27801154/5
>>27801165/5This is what you see at the ~4.5 mile mark (not including half a mile from the shuttles to the narrows), my understanding is that to go beyond this point you need a permit, so this is the end of the normal full hike. You just turn around and go back, no loop. Overall a great experience, I can see why some people have it on their bucket lists, really beautiful the entire time and most people don't do the full hike so there's not much traffic past the beginning section. My home board is /fit/ but I wanted to stop by here and share, glad I do cardio because this was a hell of a workout, more than any other hike or trail I've done before.
>>2780007>>2780009Damn, where was this? I didn't get much by me, just a little thunderstorm.
From today I would be very surprised if anyone guessed the country/location correctly

I went on a 5 day hike through Sierra National Forrest, Ansel Adams, and Yosemite this last week. It was a great trip but I still get sadge seeing how burnt out SNF is now.

Superstition Mountains, Flatiron summit.
I saw almost zero old growth trees in this forest. This was, by far, the oldest tree I saw. There were some slightly bigger ones on the steepest slopes but on the flatter parts the trees looked to be no older than 20 years max.
This is the "driveable trail" i.e. unmaintained ungraveled road (boggs ridge) that leads eventually into a trail (I dunno if there's a gate or it just ends) and the trail takes you 900 vertical ft down to the base of the holler, though apparently it has been rerouted to 100 ft above the creek to avoid getting flooded out and is in terrible shape. There's usually a closed gate but since it's fall, the gate was open and I got to drive to where there's a pullout at an intersection with an abandoned ATV track. One source said to hike on the ATV track, but that's stupid. The ATV track is in shitty shape. Just walk down the road until you line up with the overlook, then you have to blaze downhill into the forest to get to it - there's absolutely no trail whatsoever. I'm not sure when the gate closes, but I recommend going there nowish to not have to hike the extra mile each way from the gate - it's a steep hike.
The background valleys are the confluence, I believe, of Babb Creek and Pine Creek. Babb Creek is gorgeous and I'd like to go back there and recommend it if you are in the Tioga County area. The Mid-State trail runs near it and there's some other trails along it near Landrus Rd a bit upstream of the confluence. And Sand Run Falls is one of the nicest in PA, but a bit tricky to access.
This is Boggs Ridge Vista (west), there is also Boggs Ridge Vista (east), which is easier to access. https://endlessmountains.wordpress.com/2020/03/24/west-boggs-run-vista-sproul-state-forest/If you are adventurous, you can camp either at the vista, or hike back tot the road and down to the water itself, and there's campsites there, but of course, this being rural PA, the trail is in awful shape and poorly maintained (I'm told). Also you can see across the West Branch Susquehanna River as you descend Boggs Ridge, and theoretically there is a trail that runs all the way downhill to it, but it probably exists in name only mostly since it goes onto what looks like private land.
about 900 ft I think top to bottom this is as steep as tributaries get in PA
This is Elleber Knob. You can drive to the top, but only when the gate is open sept-febotherwise you have to park at the gate and walk I think maybe .5 mi, not too long to get to the summit where there's 360 views
There used to be official trails connecting the summit in a loop with the nearest creek, running along the old railroad that used to be there. I looked at the historic topo maps I'm pretty sure there was a logging railroad then a hiking trail then abandoned in the 1980s or so. It might still be passable terrain, haven't gotten to explore it fully. You could theoretically park at a lower-elevation trailhead to complete the loop, but getting there involves a creek crossing by car, and the end of it is sort of just where the boundary of public and private land meet, so I dunno if it would be a no trespassing zone. But its an interesting backcountry area to explore that's mostly national forest land.
>>2780007Did a camping trip with my GF but it was a little too glamping. Want to do a backpacking trip on BLM now that the weather isn’t pushing 90 in CA
>>2784339Also been doing some hikes near my house and found a hollowed out tree some animal is using as a den. I think bobcat but might be coyote
Nope.
I did Mt. Tom, Willey and Field on Monday.Bluebird day, I ended up being overdressed but once I stripped down it was a fantastic hike. The tards at the Willey overlook were feeding the grey jays, which is a shame though. They were completely tamed, on the way up a few of them flew right up to me only 8 or 10 inches away.
>>2780117cool to see your thoughts anon, been thinking about doing it sometime soon
Just got back from a trip in the balkans. A few days in a city and the rest hiking around some mountains and island hopping.Hardly saw any other people and slept under the stars. Will dump a few photos

>>2780007Sandias yesterday
>>2783624Is the Allegheny NF cool? I have some friends that hang around there and always thought about visiting for a little trip.
>>2787142Its ok but its kinda a joke because most of the best hiking is to the east. If you havent seen them - check out kinzua sky walk, jakes rock (above the allegheny reservoir), and ministers creek overlook, and hearts content old growth, but the best stuff is sort of between like st marys pa and scranton - pine creek and its tributariespic related is a tributary of west branch susquehanna near renovo- the actual national forest just doesnt have that much its more like snowmobile trails oh but there is pigeon run falls but u can only get there from the west in marienville and then u take the spring creek horse trail northThe best stuff is in state forest and state game lands.
Took this one yesterday. The scenery was nice, but there was complete silence and I was thinking maybe a predator was nearby. I was halfway to my destination and decided to go back, I feared it would get very dark on my way back, and plus, I felt watched.

its winter in the high country
Nothing spectacular, just a walk through a natural area near the village I'm staying at in eastern Thailand. Of course, the locals use it as a garbage dump. Thailand isn't an ideal country for exploring nature overall. >>2788031My old backyard
Went /out/ with a buddy to check out some shelters, maybe find some mushrooms or just photograph birds
Cool svampy area
Neat fall colours
Didn't find any edible mushrooms, not even birch polypore lmao, buddy got some photos of some birds that I've already forgotten the name of, I'm the mushroom guy, he the bird guy, no harm done
