Is this brand worth the hype? As a outdoors juggernaut I think their brand has good quality products, gear ect. But I sometimes think about the price and get chills how much everything costs.
>>
>>2785231
Some Patagonia products are really good. I use one of their super light weight rain jackets as my go to. But others are overpriced status items.

But you already knew this. This is probably AI I'm responding to. Just pumping out shitty useless threads to make it appear anyone even comes here anymore.
>>
>>2785234
Im a real person that responds from a country that does not have eazy access to these kinds of stuff. So I wanted to know what is a perception of other people on this brand. Why would you even think of that??
>>
There are so many alternatives, it's a status brand. I personally buy Bergans.
>>
>>2785231
Overpriced. I have their R2 Techface jacket, Downdrift Parka and some socks. I'm pretty sure I would get same quality cheaper if I'd get a chance to try out different clothes at REI or some other big stores they have in US.
But as products go - I'm happy with them. Parka may be sawn bit weird, looks kinda weird on me 0 maybe it's for larger people, idk, but it's warm enough. Jacket - I simply love it. Way too expensive for what it is, my it's so comfy I can't complain.
>>
>>2785231
You pay a premium for their production/supply chain choices and their philanthrophy. Their technical gear can be quite good. I have multiple patagonia items that are 20+yrs old and still highly functional.
>>
>>2785235
you're a paid filipino shill aren't you
>>
>>2785370
If he's a Philly Peño why would he even need Patagonia? It doesn't get cold enough on his island to worry about winter gear, ever.

Replaced my decades old northface big shot with one of their bags because it seemed similar, its a good bag
Just my daily bag, not for serious hiking
>>
if I did own anything from them, I would probably take the logo off, even if it was a nice product
I would just feel like such a fag ya know, idk maybe i'm being a sperg
>>
I like Outdoor Research better. Same warranty with much better price to quality ratio. And they have better sales.
>>
>>2785231

it's a yuppy prestige brand, no different from north face and arcteryx.

no, patagonia gear is not worth the money.
>>
>>2785231
the tranny shit is just so repulsive
>>
>>2785231
most of my outdoor gear is Patagonia. Their technical stuff is worth it imo but the casual stuff not as much and is usually chintzy. I have access to prodeals so I don't have to pay full price which is how I've been able to try them out
>>
>>2785479
Tranny what??
>>
>>2785231
Try it out yourself it's not that costly
>>
>>2785484
Can you name a few things of your gear? Can you take a picture of it?

DAS light hoody - it's my go to belay hoody. I don't like climbing with it on or being super active with it on because it doesn't breathe well, but for cold belays it works great
Pros: very warm, light, works when wet
Cons: hard to pack in it's pocket, crinkly, no cinch at the waist,

Terravia Alpine Pants - just very nice hiking/climbing pants
Pros: stretchy, light, moves well, breathes well
cons: pull string on zippers come off, wind goes through them, pockets are kinda hard to get in and out of

Capilene Air baselayers - my favorite baselayers I got the top with the hoody and it's amazing on very cold days when you want to cover your nose and also as protection from the sun, shame they don't seem to make them anymore
Pros: warm, doesn't smell, dries fast, not itchy,
Cons: a little thick for the baselayer so layer accordingly, feels like it will stretch out when you wear it

You can also add expensive as a con for all of these

I read an article about the guy who started it. A boomer climber who'd sleep under the stars in the desert. He called people who are into his label 'posers' which I thought gave it more cred

Its hard not being into “posing” nowadays as he said, because even the brand as it is Patagonia looked the other way around and started capitalising on the name itself so you can’t really blame only people for it.
>>
>>2785994
He said it in 1991 which was the peak year in culture of anti-sell-out-ness in US at least
>>
>>2786050
I didn’t read the article bc I can’t open it

If you do a search there's a filter list you can add to UBlock that bypasses paywalls

no
all their shirts are made of scratchy uncomfortable plastic and it gets more uncomfortable it breaks in
the only reason people like it is because of their logo.
>>
>>2786150
Yes my favourite label Icebreaker used to have a saying 'why would you wear plastic?' as all their clothes were merino and double the price. Now they started blending merino with plastic they don't say that and the price stayed high too

They have fa design. I have only a hat from them
>>
>>2785231
Their whiterwater gear used to be top notch, both drysuits and PFDs.
Used to call it PagaGucci for obvious reasons, but it was worth it.
Tthen they sold it off to become.. Lotus?
Then they just stopped. Pretty disappointing.
Don't know what it's like now.
Probably like our NZ brands - moved production to China but still playing on the 'home grown" reputation from 20yrs ago
>>

>They have fa design
They really don't. Patagonia looks gawky asf most of the time. It ain't it.

I think I'm gonna buy one of their workwear jacket. For $189 I don't think you can go wrong in this case, the lifetime warranty sounds great. That would be my first Patagonia item.

Icebreaker and Smartwool are unfortunately part of VF Corp. All of their brands suffered significant quality drops due to cost cutting. Big avoid - Icebreaker, Smartwool, Timberland, North Face, Vans, Dickies.

The fully acknowledge their impact on the environment. more than any other clothing company I know of. A few of their hats are made in China but thats it- most of of their stuff is made in Vietnam, Sri Lanka or the US
