Have you ever made your own tool or modified something for your own purpose that made it a more functional tool? I hear some people make floor mats or light weight temporary tents out of Tyvek because the material is very tough, water proof, and light. What have you guys diy or modified and for what purpose. Include pics.
>>2785669Tyvek works great for this but to call it "DIY" or "making your own tool" is pretty embarrassing. It would have been easy to talk about weaving your own hammock or fashioning containers out of clay or replacing the handle of an old tool or several million other examples of craftsmanship and ingenuity, and somehow settling on using a piece of Tyvek as a tarp (not even in a creative way utilizing it's properties as a one way water barrier) is pretty embarrassing. I've seen mexican guys on job sites do things you wouldn't even believe with this stuff, and someone out there is rubbing his head going, "yeah... I suppose it could function as a tarp.."

Made my tarp. 12’ ridgeline, reinforced with grosgrain. Membrane silpoly. 3” deep cat cuts. 14” beaks, I think. Works really well.Made a few hammocks, but really just for lounging. Made a bag for hanging food. I also made a pretty nice wool cap on a knitting loom. It takes some time at first but once you get the hang of it it’s pretty easy. I used 4 weight yarn (worsted weight) and made the hat fairly large. I then boiled, agitated, and cooled the wool repeatedly, causing the fibers to bind together and form a dense fabric (felt; the process is called felting or fulling). This causes the garment to shrink, and the gaps between stitches to close. It was a really nice hat, but one of my togs tore it up. I just started another yesterday.
