What headlamps do you guys use that aren't the permanently built in rechargeable battery kind? I got a Nitecore UT27 for camp, which comes with a rechargeable battery, but it's hot swappable for another one or triple aaa batteries. Now I'm thinking about picking up an HM70R 21700 with a powerful beam for walking the trail because it goes with my other 21700 gear.

What do you guys use that doesn't have a permanently built in rechargeable battery?

Black Diamond 400, 700, 500, whatever they are. I have four or five of them. In my experience the battery life is shit. They're good for dicking around the campsite at night or occasional rockhounding in the dark but I wouldn't depend on them.
If I'm going to explore mine then I have one of the permanently built in rechargeable battery headlamps that lives permanently on my helmet.

Black Diamond Storm, I think. It’s definelty Black Diamond.
>waterproof
>has a control lock
>red light
>spot and flood
>dimmable
>not absurdly large
>adjustable/can tilt
It takes aaa’s; I don’t really see an advantage or disadvantage with batteries or being rechargeable.

What kind of helmet do you have that allows attachments?

I have a chinease headlamp with one intensity setting that runs on AAA's however I always use my Decathlon 20 Euro built in rechargeable one.

It just works, two intensity settings for white light and one for red light. I have honestly never have it run out on me and it is weather proof so I'll keep on using this one until it fails.

Black Diamond Storm 500-R

It's not the brightest, but it does the job when getting an early start pre sunrise.

I have a BD 350 or 400 with AAA batteries. Never felt like I needed anything brighter but I'm also not caving

This Led Lenser. Works with 3xAAA, you can change the focus of the light and the intensity. I like it.

Some cheap Canadian tire thing I got 10 years ago that refuses to die.

Literally any mountaineering/climbing helmet is built for this. Petzl makes good ones (good headlamps too).

I just bought this, it can be charged through a built in USB-C or you can just swap out the 18560.
>>
>>2787124
Replaceable batteries are a must. USB is shit and will die on you on hikes more than a few days. Extra AAA batteries are lighter than a power bank and way smaller.

USB charging for /out/ is legit retarded
>>
>>2787127
You must have missed
>just swap out the 18560.
>>
sofirn sp40. just don't use the max brightness setting for too long or it will probably explode and kill you
>>
>>2787127
>NOOOO! I NEED TO HAVE KIKE LIGHT ON AT ALL TIMES! HOW ELSE WILL I BE REMINDED OF MY OFFICE JOB!

Sun goes down build a fire, or go to bed. Fuck off with the kike light pollution.
>>

You are based
I am a pussy and live in deep forest with steep mountains and am very bad at making it back before sunset on day hikes. I also live very far north and in winter it gets dark at like 430 :/
>>
Have a zebralight I bought on recommendation, probably going to buy something more pedestrian.

The light it produces is amazing, and using 18650s is a big plus, but it's heavy and the UI is both retarded and complicated. Always wind up nuking my retinas when I wake up to piss in the middle of the night because in my grogginess I can't get the "long click" for the 1 lumen mode the exactly right duration.

Good light if you're actively doing stuff that needs light for a long time like night hiking/fixing cars, but as a backpacking piss-light it's annoying

That looks nifty. What brand is it? And does it have separate buttons for white and red led?
>>
>>2787352
The brand is Sofirn, but it's one of those Chinese here today gone tomorrow type brands most likely. Here's the zon link to it. https://a.co/d/2lhSBF4
>>
>>2787352
And no, you have to click through the white to get to the red, but it's only one button push extra. One for on(white) and once more to switch to red. Then long press to cycle through the power levels or quick double tap to switch between strobe modes.

pic related is the best one ive ever used. i had other petzl, black diamond, and some amazon shit brand, and they all had annoying elestic straps that loosen up over a short time
this here ive had for 6 years and it has zero give is small, light, and fits into a pocket very easily.
the only downside is that its not water resistant, but when it gets wet, it dries up and works agian just fine.
