Why is the selection for these so lacking? Picrel would've been the perfect pick for this. I want leather boots that have tactical features and are easy to take on and off for the city and all the options now suck.

Picrel (discountinued): https://www.511tactical.com/de-de/atac-6-boot.html

The new (supposedly improved version with a fucking side-zip, too tall): https://www.511tactical.com/de-de/a-t-a-c-reg-2-0-6-shield-boot.html

So should I just get shoes or what?

the word "tactical" just means nylon shit, goretex shit, cheap leather, and hiking soles - so just buy hiking boots because that's the same thing.

What makes a boot tactical? Do they have toecaps or sth?
>>

it's codeword for cheap ass shit. 80 litre camouflage backpack on amazon that costs $20? tactical. 100% polyester multicam fatigues made in shanghai? tactical. rainbow colored ninja knives? tactical. if you buy good military stuff from brands like tru spec, helikon, or savotta, you'll notice that the T word comes up a lot less in their advertising material. you'll see it sometimes, but it's not recklessly applied to everything. any time i see that word i am instantly suspicious.

Can't recommend that. I've been using lowa renegades for ~20 years now, and the civilian version (that I've had two pairs of) wore out within half a year both times, while the tactical version lasted between 3 and 5 years, depending on the ratio of rucking to hiking.
At least with Lowa, the "tactical" stuff gets thicker leather (1,2mm vs 0,8mm) and tougher soles.

normally, they have gasoline-proof soles, often antistatic as well, no metal parts (so you can wear them through security checks and they don't set of IEDs) and no bright colors. They'll often also have sole profiles with "turning points", that is, large solid chunks of rubber underneath the ball and heel of your foot, so that you can turn rapidly in close combat, which is almost impossible with the tractor thread profiles civilian boots have.

This kind of shoe is absolute meme retard larper shit. Get jogging shoes or tennis shoes for the city. Get jogging shoes or barefoot shoes in the woods. Don't be a fag. The only time you need this heavy of armor for your feet is if you work with heavy equipment.

It's marketing, same for the word "technical" applied to alpinism gear.
Most of those buying into the ploy will never see a mountain nor a battlefield.

I want ankle support and protection from the elements in the city but don't want to wear full-sized military boots. Synthetics suck ass.

>gasoline-proof soles
Why? Everything in the army runs off jp-8

They are super comfortable. Until they are not. Meaning. When they break, they hurt your feet. But you can get good wear out of them for 6 months or so.
