I grow cannabis way out there. Most of the year I am alright in a tent, but last year I built a little mancave for sitting/laying down, and sheltering from weather. It is very comfortable now that I added a hammock and stove. But I can also live in my van in the colder months, which is just a "sleeper" in the sense that it has enough room to rest and recuperate. It also has a little stove for winter, but I have to be careful not to burn it too near other people because they think the vehicle is on fire haha.

Most of the year I stay clean by washing in rivers using natural soap. In the colder months I go into town every 3-4 days for a shower at the gym (membership card) and work out while there. I have 15 clothing changes, including underwear and socks, so I don't need to worry about going to the laundrette very often.

It's a simple life, I get my money and then carry on for the next. I could actually have a woman doing this with me comfortably enough, and probably be in heaven tending my plants with her like we're Adam and Eve, but only time will tell.
>>
>>2791691
>I don't have identification or anyway to get some. Or even to prove I exist.
That's actually good. There's going to come a time really soon when the guy who doesn't officially exist will be much safer than everybody else.

I don't have ID either, or a bank account. I don't vote. I don't answer the census. I don't file tax returns. I'll be pretty hard to find when I ditch my cell phone.
>>
>>2791739
Listen guys its nice you feel that way but in the here and now my life is completely irreparably fucked so to here this shit motivated by politics I neither care about nor have any ability to participate in even if I did is genuinely worthless and off putting. I agree with this anon, women are whores no matter what. And I do not say this in a denigrating fashion, the world's oldest religion is in fact whoredom. Obviously if the woman consents then she consents and according to todays laws this is not rape.

Now the broader ethical implications of rape, or lack thereof is a whole other can of worms. However in this context unless you consider every single golddigger then you'd best shut up>>2791822 .

Seeds can be bought through the mail, via cash order. I just sent them the money in an envelope and they sent my seeds back, same envelope. But that was back in the day when people needed to be far more cautious.

I like Northern Lights, a dense low grower that does well with high humidity and cooler temps. But I also have other strains that do well depending on the specific grow site. No matter what, I like to do autoflowers because then I'm getting paid multiple times in the season before my main crops are even done. I live a peaceful life where nothing bad seems to happen, knock on wood, because I am not doing anything wrong.

survival in winter can be hard fren, unless you bring really good gear. but that can be stolen.

Is anyone here actually homeless without a car? How do you manage storing your gear? Seems like one of the biggest challenges would be figuring that out so you can do stuff like go to a job or go to stores without showing up carrying a giant pack

>>
>>2794105
Not to get too far into the weeds, but (((they))) are probably more concerned if you don't store your money in a bank account and disrupt the lending process.
>>
>>2794096
I thought about a storage unit, but that ties you a certain immediate area as long as you’re storing your gear there, and also seems like a pain to go there every day.

>wake up innawoods
>break camp
>pack shit up
>now have to head to storage unit to trade out ruck for normie bag before you go to the gym to shower
>this takes a while and is weird and inconvenient because you’re on foot
>would probably have to change storage facilities every month or two so people don’t catch on to your activities and movements
Sounds like a huge pain in the ass, but I guess the only alternative is hiding your shit in the woods
>>
>>2794161
>so people don't catch on to your activities and movements

>>
>>2794172

>>2794161
get a fucking bicycle you turbo retard that is my #1 advice for a hobo

if you are concerned about minimizing gear you need to be seasonally nomadic, or take advantage of elevation or be on the coast, your options are mostly california and arizona unless you move seasonally which will also be thousands of miles and lets be honest I know you aint built for that

also ive done the storage unit/gym hobo style and the nomad style both work totally fucking fine you need to have some braincells and plan ahead you know, go to places where these things are fucking close to each other

study the weather
>>
>>2794175
Other hobos would find out where your storage facility is abd break into it specifically? And not just randomly break into storage units? Or are we talking jump you on the way in or out? And what would stop them from doing that anywhere? Forgive my ignorance, just looking for clarity on a statement that confused me.
>>
>>2794179
Jesus Christ you cannot read
>other hobos will watch your activities and movements

not tryna deanonymize myself, but I've spent some time being a hobo before.

made money by churning promos on Chumba, LuckyLand, and GlobalPoker. It's not gambling if it's +EV. That and collecting the daily free $s from like, 20 different Social Casinos. They do this because they run their services as sweepstakes, not under regular casino law, so they're required to let you enter for free. Was raking in $1k/mo doing this which was more than enough to sustain myself.

The hardest part, as always, is finding somewhere to sleep that won't get you caught. You either have to be constantly on the move, or find 3-5 spots and rotate between them. I remember once upon a time sleeping in a private off-limits airport shack, and barely avoided getting the police called on me. Pretty sure I only survived cuz I was in a town at the time that was just off the AT.

As for my daily carry, I had two packs, one for daily carry and the other one for moving all my shit.
I always carried a knife on me, since I was up in good ol New Hampshire and they just straight up did not care that I was carrying around a 6 inch bowie on my waist. It's useful for all sorts of things.
My clothes were also important. I carried two sets of zip-off at the knee pants, a pair of long underwear, and as for shirts, I rocked two long sleeve shirts, and swapped out between two hawaiian shirts to wear over the longsleeves. First of all, it looked dope, and second of all, covered the knife at my belt so I didn't scare the normies.
I also carried a Chiappa Little Badger, since occasionally I would go on trail and hunt some small game. I do not recommend either the Chiappa Little Badger, or hunting for food on public land. The gun itself was fine enough, easily fitting in my pack and weighing next to nothing, but it was dinky.
As for cooking, I had an MSI pocket rocket and bought disposable gas canisters for it. Had a titanium fold up pot too. Was pretty neat.
>>
>>2794223
cont.

Pack 1 was a pack frame I bought at a church auction, with a gigantic nylon drawstring bag and aluminum frame. Had plenty of places to tie shit, including some side straps, so I strapped two tarps I used for setting up an a-frame. One tarp for setting up the a-frame, with paracord on each corner to tie rocks to it, which you would then load down with bigger rocks to draw the tarp taught. The other tarp was a ground tarp. And then obviously I looped my ridgeline around the bottom of the bag.
Sleeping bag was an UL model I picked up at a milsurp store for like, 20 bucks. Wasn't very insulating, but it was better than nothing. Ended up getting another, better sleeping bag later on and nested the UL one inside it. Was pretty good. Can't complain.

Tobacco was the biggest concern of mine. Usually I ended up just splurging with whatever cash I could spend on Camel Nonfilters, or like, Airbairs or whatever. I have an unabased nic habit. Did this contribute anything to my hobo lifestyle? Idk. But it made me feel good.

The other pack that I had was a day-pack I used to carry around all the shit I might need during the day. Included a government-provided tablet (thanks Obama), some snacks, and whatever other shit. Smokes, obviously. It was mostly just to carry things back to wherever I was staked out, in my ventures into civilization.
On the obamaphone topic, they give you free phone service, and a free tablet with like, 1gig of data before you get rate limited. I didn't know this at the time, but I could've also applied for food stamps, which they give to everyone with a pulse I later found out. This would've extended my monthly budget to like, $1.2k. Which is a bump, but not a huge one. The main limiting factor in me not raking in more cash is that I was just too busy being a hobo to actually spend the time to grind out +EV shit on all the social casinos.
>>
>>2794226
cont.

Food is easy. Top Ramen all the way, with whatever meat I had on me at the time, usually rabbit or squirrel. I cooked a lot of it and preserved it with salt, but that didn't really work very well, so usually I just went to the butcher's shop and bought meat as I needed it. At first I was using the McDonalds app to get crazy deals on McDanks, but go fucking figure, eating greasy fast food every day is a real good way to almost lose your lunch and probably get all sorts of nutritional deficiencies. I would "spend money" on some multivitamins too, just so I wasn't dying from scurvy or some shit.
Showers, I just paid for a PlaFit membership. Being a greasy hobo is a great way to get the cops on you. Shower and be clean, and you shall prosper. And sometimes even get like, well-meaning handouts. Not pity-handouts. Which always felt nice. I actually spent a decent chunk of my money on hygiene. Had a skincare routine and everything so I wouldn't be an acne-ridden homeless fuck.

I wasn't the biggest believer, but trust me, going this route will turn you into one. Attending church means free bagels and coffee, and that's just the selfish parts. Church quiets the mind, and soothes the soul, which so often gets disturbed by the constant moving about. Hoboing turned me religious. I regret nothing. Not that there'd be anything to regret from being pious, but it really changed my feelings about the whole thing.
>>
>>2794228
cont.

I also cannot stress this enough, phone battery is the #1 thing. The #2 thing is carrying around items to replace your phone. Notepad and pen, literal dinosaur MP3 player with a pair of Moondrop Chu IEMs ($20 for the best sound quality you have ever fucking heard), a clicker to count shit. A deck of cards for entertainment, and three books usually. One non-fiction, two fiction.
I ALWAYS carried a charger and battery bank. Could charge in any number of restaraunts and fast food places, but I always ordered something while I was there so I wasn't acting like a fucking bum. So that was another drain on capital, but well worth it. $2 for a coffee is not a high price to pay for having a place to chill for 3 hours, especially if the weather outside is frightful. Keeping your phone charged means keeping your money alive, keeping your lifeline alive, and keeping your transportation alive in the case of FlixBus or whatever else. Vital importance, cannot stress this enough.
I never ended up finding a solar charger that worked, but if you can find one, it's a good bet. It's better to have it than not. I always could've gotten a solar panel and bigger battery bank for my camp, but I wanted to stay mobile.

In terms of getting deliveries without an address, some post offices offer General Delivery services. It allows you to just have the package wait at the post office for you to pick it up. Check with the post office first before you do this, because some do not offer it.

I also had a fishing pole. A little telescopic one. I didn't end up catching many fish, but like church, fishing soothes the mind. Makes me happy. Which is one of the main challenges of hoboing. Happiness is your main meter you have to watch. If you're miserable, you're gonna get sick. If you're miserable, you're not gonna do what you gotta do.
>>
>>2794231
final.

Ultimately I went hoboing in the first place because I was a useless fuck and couldn't keep my shit straight. A decent amount of my money went to rebuying shit I ended up losing. I was, before my hoboing, pretty hopeless and very disorganized. I am better now, and I recommend a tramp across America (or your local region) if you ever feel you need to get your shit together. Because you WILL get your shit together, or you'll die.

Hitting the road at the end of may next year. Any advice for a first time vagabond? I got most of my supplies already, at this point I'm just saving up whatever money I can before I leave.

best dont sleep in cities if you can avoid it.

>Also go to portland, go to san francisco, you will within 5 seconds immediately understand that you want nothing to do with any other hobo and other hobos also conmit most of their crimes against other hobos.
True. Even the most normal other hobo is likely hiding mental illness, addiction, or a serious criminal record. HOWEVER, I did find it useful to hang out with the nonblack drunks and make nice with them to share their sleeping spot when other options failed. Usually I would arrive with some small gifts and looked after their bags while they galavanted, let them use my normal can opener and electrical plug splitter's spare slots, or helped them with paperwork. The mostly safe sleep I got in return was well worth the investment. Just don't bring anybody inside with you when its time to get back into an apartment or something. I know the idea of having an extra income to pay bills or save someone who is a "good guy who just needs a little help" can be attractive(especially us simpy Whites) but don't do it.

>So if you arent a schizophrenic that frightens people from a distance, you probably want to PRETEND YOU ARENT HOMELESS
This, you want to be left alone by police and security? Smell normal, dress normal, act normal. I spent most of my time homeless hanging out on college campuses in libraries.

Used to be a vagabond for some time in central Sweden.
Can relate a lot to what the other effort-posting anon said.
Totally different setup at the end then what I started with.
Rule 1: Never fucking ever deal with other hobos.
Never got to experience winter as I had to go back to being an adult before.
Slept under the stars when to lazy to built my 1p tent ( Wolskin Gossamer- Great item)
I had one of these ultra cheap mini radios that was powered with an AAA-cell. I spent hours listening to the rambling of some swedish metalhead on some local station.
And I packed wayyy to much tools, after some time I stashed the hatchet und like 5 knives in a plastic bag in a bush and only took a folding saw and a pocket knife.
Also I spent a lot of time fishing and reading. Had no rod, just line, hook&sinker on a piece of lumber.
Insect repellant x10000.
Never worked, as I Had saved enough money from working night shift at a car factory before, but could have done so later as I got some local connections.
Cleaned myself in lakes, streams or by sponge bathing, occasionally on a camping ground ( porcellain shitters are great!)
Met some local youth but by god do they have shitty drinking habits.
Visited the factory of the Mora knife which was cool. See the point about carrying to many knives.
I was caught a cold in bumfuck nowhere and that did suck. Being cold& miserable sucks even more when you're weak and the next store is 15 miles hiking through marshland.
Started with boots& a light pair of shoes, replaced the boots with Crocs due to the wet ground.
On a saturday morning I came to a small lake only to meet a 40 head strong group of middle aged nudists. This was shortly after being sick and they were some kind of club and had invited me to their picknick. I feasted on grapes like a roman emporer after being starved for vitamins.

Not the poster you were talking to but I feel like the things i own are nothing but enslavement myself. Im trying to get out of it all. Im an old fag and just realized Ive just been pretending my whole life I want all the material shit people crave when really its made me nothing but lonely and in debt. I dont want to fight the woman I am with for the shared property so I just want to bail and make my way the way nature intended. Mulling over making a vanlife style trip to Argentina from the US just to experience some shit and maybe buying some cheap ass land down there eventually.

I find our different perspectives interesting. Did you have a normal upbringing? I didnt and spent some time in a youth survival camp in the Appalachian wilderness and have craved it ever since but didnt think it would realistic or viewed it as failing or low class. All the "high class" people I know are miserable or are predators of the human soul feeding on misery to enrich themselves. Im walking away from a potential 200k a year job (in the cheap southeastern US) but I'm miserable and just want freedom and adventure.

Other posters that have lived that life is it just a meme?

>The storage unit is for larping as a non hobo
Everyone understands this. Everyone understands that everyone understands this, except you, who for some reason thinks no one knows what the storage unit is for.
What people don't understand is what the other hobos will do once they've "made" you:
>>2794179
>will they break into the unit or jump you on the way in?
>>2794182
>other hobos are bad
Do you see how this doesn't answer the question? Maybe if you communucated clearly you wouldn't find everyone so retarded
>>
>>2796010
You're fantasizing in order to disguise to yourself that you aren't actually doing anything. Try going /out/ instead
>vanlife style trip to argentina
Nigger do you even own a van? What appeals to you about this fantasy is the fact that you will never do it. 100% there is a good spot for backpacking within a couple hours of where you live. It would be cheaper and easier, you could actually do it, and you wouldn't have to quit your job. But that's the problem; if you did that you would still be living your current life, which is what you're fantasizing about escaping.
You don't get freedom and adventure by dropping everything and doing a "freedom and adventure thing", you get it by living (ie making choices) freely and adventurously, which requires neither a van nor a passport. The life you are living now (shitty and boring) is the fruit of the way you have lived it (inhibited and risk averse). You can't just switch lives in a vacuum, you have to change the way you are living to produce the new life.
>don't want to fight the woman i am with for the shared property
fear
>Mulling over
fear
>didnt think it would be realistic

I'm not sure if it counts as a true hobo/vagabond experience since I have a car but I'm gonna be homeless in a couple days and plan to eventually wander around the country and continent. I live in a (euro) frozen shithole, so I will take advice from people who have slept outside in really cold ass weather.

>euro
Damn I feel you, I'm also euro and broke, on the verge of losing everything. Family debts ruined my life.
I've been planning to disappear for years, got me 2k worth of tools but I'm sure something I will need is still missing.
As you probably know most of the land is private property except glaciers but it's freezing up there, in my area it's been snowing since mid December.
Mountain temps reach negative 20°C in some places and if you start a fire the people living downhill will notice and surely call authorities on you, same if they see a tent near a hiking trail, people walking their dogs are everywhere and the most insufferable pieces of shit around trails since they don't even bother to clean their dog's shit.
I got me USB powered heaters, USB solar chargers, high quality sleeping bag and many layers of clothes but I just know my life /out/ there will be hell anyway. I tried sleeping outside this summer but even in the damn summer it gets impossible to sleep well after 3AM since the temps drop way too much and I'm not even living in high altitude, figures up there.

Very sound advice here, hope anon reads and internalises it

Expose yourself to smaller amounts of change before jumping with both feet or you’ll end up in the exact situation again except you crawled back to it

hi /out/, irl hobo here. feel free to ask any questions and come join the hobo/vagabond/homeless traveler server if ya like - AyJyCV4pcB

all my belongings fit into a 50 litre pack with room to spare. no trouble moving through aisles at most major stores, if a store has small aisles ill just ask to leave it at the counter. i have friends around the country that i can leave stuff with if needed as well
>>2793752
somewhat smart but all the other hobos will hate you, most of us out here have had bad experience with the cops, and depending on the person, being clocked as a bootlicker might be a one way ticket to getting your shit beat up
>>2794098
google satellite is you friend. you can scout out good green space, patches of wood and the like
>>2794103
ive never met any "hunter" vagabonds, but a lot of us forage out here, whether for fresh herbs and mushrooms when out in the wild or urban foraging, dumpster dive style lol

you guys are talking about homebums. TLDR theres like a hierarchy of homeless classes; the lowest tier is the homebum - homeless people who dont travel, and dont work. these people are usually addicted to drugs or mentally ill, or just temporarily out here because they ran into some bad luck. hobos dont really associate with homebums. then theres the tramp - a homeless traveler that doesn't work. there are different types of tramps, leathertramps who travel by foot, rubbertramps who travel by car, etc etc. basically a level above a homebum. then theres the hobo - a homeless traveler that works. typically lives a dignified life, and has either chosen this path or let it find them and made the best of it. usually rides the rails, too. the term hobo came from the depression, when migrant workers would ride the rails from farm to farm and work the hoe in the field, becoming known as hoe-boys, which eventually got shortened to hobo.

This is a question I had actually;

As a trans person on the road, how much more of a target does that put on my back?
>>
>>2799041
a lot of travelers are trans! and the ones who arent are usually allies. however, being visibly trans will probably make passing through more conservative areas less of a fun time, and some parts of the south might be a no go zone for ya
>>
>>2799035
It’s the vagrant holiday guy ?

For those of you that chose this life; why? What's the fun in it exactly? you travel around and do WHAT? you ain't got no money.
