How hard is it to learn to ride a horse? Imagine I'd need great core strength. Good steppe parks in the usa? Borts will be a good thing I'll bring, is like pemmicanEquestrian and archery thread ig.
>>2793030>Good steppe parks in the usa?75% of the state of Nevada, Northern AZ, most of NM, 60% of CO, 60% of MT, 100% of WY.
Strength helps, sure. Also, don't train on traumatized asshole "rescue" horses. They will buck the fuck out of you and make you want to punch them. I gave up on it so good luck.
>>2793030Maybe try riding a horse the normal way before you try mounted archery. And for the full LARP you'll need a completely custom saddle.
Just do what modern Mongols do these day; nomadic dirt bike camping. Horses are expensive as fuck.
>>2793066>Horses are expensive as fuck.how it was>catch a horse>train the horse>ride the horse>horse eats whatever it finds>go wherever you want whenever you wantnow>buy horse>pay for horse training>pay for horse equipment>pay for horse feed>maybe you ride on weekend if boss doesn't need you to come in
boomp
>>2793030Most important thing is to not be fat. A 200 lb rider requires a 1000 lb horse, and most horses are smaller than this. Between you and the saddle and any gear you want to bring with, you should strive to not exceed 25% of the horse’s body weight during extended rides, assuming a horse in good condition (under and overweight horses should carry less). You should also get off the horse and walk alongside for at least a few minutes per hour to save on suffering for your ass and hips and also to give the horse a rest.
>>2793075Is it true it costs less to feed a horse then a dog?
>>2793636Depends on whether or not you have to buy grass due to climate or space. I absolutely spend less on horse feed than on dog food, but that’s because the horse is eating for free for over half the year and I get hay for the winter as part of a land rent agreement with another farmer.
>>2793030Ehen i was 12 years, and my grandpa was not home. Me and a cousin, took the horse and just ride it. Like few hours and at hight speeds, first time doing it.And it wasn't a pony. It was a Lipizzan type.Modern Amerikansky and their ideas...
>>2793075>now>>buy horse>>pay for horse training>>pay for horse equipment>>pay for horse feed>>maybe you ride on weekend if boss doesn't need you to come in
>>2793075Horses cannot eat whatever they find. There are too many introduced plants. They have specific dietary needs. They can easily get sick from eating a weed.
>>2793030I think the bigger issue is just that horses are incredibly difficult and expensive animals; keeping horses is terribly unprofitable. Most horse farms and breeders lose money hand over fist, it's kind of like boating as a hobby; you better have deep pockets.
>>2793030I'm one of those people who gravitates towards horses, so if there's a field of them with nobody in it chances are I'll make a nuisance of myself to them for a little while. I've become quite good at ingratiating myself with groups of them, since there was a field near my old workplace. I would go out on my lunch hour and just relax with them. First, each horse will come and interaact with you individually and test you in certain ways, and then when you leave they will come together and form a group consensus - like a pack of broads do in the human world.Anyway, once you have their respect, you can start testing them to see if they'll accept you as a rider, and take your weight. Stand at their sides and push down on their back once you're in the gang, and the horse will clearly let you know: "yeah bro i'm cool, you can jump up". OR, "what the fuck are you thinking? Nope!" and then it will walk away or show you its back legs. Anyway, what I'm saying is that before you ride a horse you can learn to understand them. You can learn to speak horse and in doing so you will become far more horse-friendly than by hanging out at a stable.
>>2794786And the number 1 way to get them to accept you is TRUST. You have to trust them first, and if you do, they will feel safe around you. If you flinch when they move slightly, they will think that you are capable of eating them - simple as that. If you respect their boundaries but show no fear they will reciprocate. Horses can be full of mischief too, especially if you're a bit slow on the uptake in their world. They will pick up your 5 year old boy by the collar and wave him at the other horses like a toy, just for laughs. But only when they feel safe with you.
>>2794772They're only practical if you've already got farm and if you've got daughters because they keep your daughters very busy.
>>2794786You just get in random peoples paddocks and try to ride their horses? Based.
>>2793066Fur on the inside or outside? Or 2 layer?
>>2793033Source on those numbers?
>>2793636If you already have a 10 acre pasture that is fenced in and a barn for the horse to shelter in. Do not buy a fucking horse if you are going to put it in your 2 acre back yard with no shelter. One horse will graze a pasture that is less than 10 acres down to nothing and walk the ground until it is a mix of hard pan and mud.If the horse gets loose from your shitty back yard and gets hit by a fucking car you are liable for the accident. If your horse gets loose and kicks the neighbor kid in the head because you are a no horse retard that puts a horse in your shitty 2 acre back yard you will go to jail for manslaughter. I hate these retards that say a horse is easier to own than a dog. It is a 1,000 pound 20 year commitment. No one will buy your horse either when after 6 months you realized you fucked up.
>>2794944>20 year commitmentmy grandpas horse is at least 25 and he's told me they could possibly live up to 30-40
