Buck 112

What makes the 112 different from the old standard 110? I haven't owned a 110 in many years but it looks like different steel and a slightly fatter blade geometry. I really liked the old 440 steel on the 110 because you could sharpen it with a rock. But it definitely didnt hold an edge.
>>
>>2793379
Mainly the shorter blade will meet some legal restrictions, and the smaller frame carries better on the belt. I just like the size more than the 110.
>>
>>2793379
>>2793381
Better blade shape too
>>
>>2793379
>it looks like different steel and a slightly fatter blade geometry
You can get either one in a few different steels, and yes, because the blade is shorter but uses the same stock as the 110, the geometry would be fractionally more robust.

You disguise your buying addiction as a hobby. You insult the tools by getting them just for the sake of having them.

Having a a handful of knives is an addiction?

Also I think you can agree that not every knife is made to be a tool. Not nowadays anyways with a lot of makers/companies are putting out. Like I said, I have outdoor stuff for outdoors and just small folders for every day use. Lol, I'm def not bringing a folder with me camping anyways. Fixed blade for feathering sticks, batoning, cutting rope, etc. I treat tools like tools, but I also enjoy just quality built knives that are more form over function as well. Just a small hobby.

Speaking of outdoors, the Coldsteel SRK is my outdoor knife I take when I go into the woods in case I need one. I do need to upgrade at some point because I really would rather have a full tang outdoor knife, but this is still surviving so I keep putting it off.

I think Boker did the theme of the same fish far more interestingly. Instead of printing a pattern on the scales (heh), it's G10 with two layers and a bunch of differently colored, G10 inlaid pins.
I can't justify almost 150€ for something made in China, otherwise I might get one
>>
>>2794023
>This picture smells of tar, tetanus, and broken dreams.
well, my grandpa played tarmac, so did i for a while... so ...
>>
>>2794070
I agree that the Boker does look better, but it being made in China and costing that much can be a major turn off for some. I actually picked up the green micarta Knafs Lander 2 and then picked up their brook trout scales to swap out since that's kind of their whole schtick.

Fun fact about the Boker Brook Trout knife. The designer is Joe Mangiafico. He makes his own custom knives around American Freshwater Fish. They're pricey and hard to get since he does his in small batches, but they look even better than the mass produced Boker for sure. His are all made in America in the Pacific Northwest I believe.

I like to use japanese stones. 800 to get grid of grind lines and reprofile if needed. 3000 and 6000 grit to get to the edge I like to use.

Good strop after.

A few years later this is it now. Rehandled with paper micartia. As the stabilised walnut cracked.

99% of Openel shills live in europe and taking advice from them on knives is on par with taking gun advice from them: not even once.
>>2795357
I know boomers that clean fish with their folder knives. They knives always smell like shit because the offal always ends up in the handle and lazy fat boomers never ever deep clean them. If you're killing dead things fixed blades will always be superior because they're way easier to keep clean.
Most boomers I know keep their filthy ass folders in their boats because they smell like rot--which defeats the purpose of having a "pocket knife" in the first place.
>>

>99% of Openel shills live in europe
I'm European and I fell for the Opinel trick. it absolutely sucks for /out/. I have it in carbon steel, the blade is fucking awesome, but the fucking wood body sucks if it really gets 1 drop of moisture.

I now have it in my work bag to prepare my meals. /out/ I won't take it with me anymore.

illegal to carry, not own. and only if they open with one hand AND lock in place after opening. so a spyderco ukpk is fine.
not saying these laws don't suck ass, just don't wanna see false info.
the commie bastards in charge recently banned all automatic knives (to "make people safer" yeah sure. that's really gonna help when some sandnigger stabs a bunch of people with a kitchen knife or plows his car through a christmas market like in magdeburg yesterday) and people quickly realized that automatics have also always been defined as locking in place, so automatics (of any size!, the limit was 85mm for regular autos before the ban) are still legal if you just make them a slipjoint.
pretty sure that due to the way it's defined/worded as something like "locking automatically after opening or when letting go of the mechanism that releases the blade" you can even add an optional locking feature by pushing a separate pin through scale and blade the way it's done on some of the Midgards knives (pic related).
>>
>>2795499
my point was im not gonna carry it
