Grounding shoes, do these things really work?
>>
If you buy magical shoes to "connect to the earth", then you're a mark. Also, the smooth sole make these thing more of a danger to you than anything else.

Stick a piece of copper wire through your normal shoes and test it dummy

As in, do they conduct electrostatic charges to the ground? Yes (well, assuming they're made in the way they claim). ESD safety shoes and antistatic military shoes do the same, at a lower speed but sufficient to prevent electrostatic buildup (assuming your ground is conducting, but the same counts for grounding shoes.) There's no scientific reason to believe electrostatic buildup is harmless except in the known ways (creates sparks that fry unprotected electronics or cause fires, also hurts when you get zapped) and there's no plausible physical mechanism for very low resistance shoes like conducting copper "grounding shoes" having any benefits that defined high resistance shoes like ESD or antistatic shoes don't. Matter of fact, low resistance means that, should you go from nonconducting to conducting surfaces, you could create sparks from the sudden discharge through your feet. This is why those professional shoes have a defined resistance that suffices to prevent electrostatic buildup but not so low that sparks can be created.

It's an electric conductor so it literally does, it's basic physics. Probably slightly increases your chance of getting hit by lightning.

so ive been using these sandal laces that are made of a copper/nylon weave and terminate in a copper end cap like those shoes. the laces themselves are bomb proof, for wearing them all day walking around in tide pools and barncales. whether i feel any more enlightened or healthier wearing them is up for debate. i usually feel pretty healthy and happy when its sandal weather in general
>>
>>2795128
Lightning takes the path of least resistance. If you intentionally deprive yourself of the resistance of your shoes (which can exceed that of your body and skin by far) you make yourself lower resistance and increase the chance of getting hit by lightning (by probably negligible amounts, but still).

>>
>>2795139
nope, the path lightning takes is still up to research.
a lightning rod doesn't catch lighting like you think, it simply provides a path without housefire in case one actually struck a roof
>>
>>2795155
If a lightning rod didn't catch the lightning, lightning would go through the rest of the house and the rod would do noting at all.
>>
>>2794664
For preventing static build up and keeping the electrical potential between you and the ground zero? Sure I could see it. But that doesn't really provide any benefit to your outdoor activities, unless you play around power lines. Actually something like this Faraday suit would be better if you're playing with electricity at any level where you want conductivity.
https://tallmanequipment.com/product/kv-gard-conductive-suit/?srsltid=AfmBOorq7rpGD1JfSNmWHsV9SImuvEzKu0b9EJ_EPxWpQoMa08gSHg8m
If you're just looking for footwear that provides the same benefit, you may be better with something like an electrostatic dispersal (ESD) boot. Most boot retailers that cater towards the workwear crowd have them. Pretty common in the chemical, welding, and electrical trades.
>>
>>2795170
the pointy bit helps the ion channel to form, but nothing but randomness is stopping the lightning from ignoring that and just hitting the ground 20 meter next to the house.
If lightning would take the path of least resistance, they all would strike straight vertical down instead of doing kilometer long detours along their ion channel and even ignoring all that, the "path of least resistance" analogy is true for water but outright false for electrical current that distribute along a resistance network

>hitting the ground 20 meter next to the house
The closer you get to the house, the higher the chance it actually goes through the rod and not into the ground. This is generally the principle upon which lightning protection for buildings is based. Sure, there's a great degree of randomness in where it will actually strike, but the chance definitely goes up if something is higher up and lower in resistance.

lightning traveling 10km of ionised air could give less of a shit about 5m wood beam vs steel pipe, but pointy bits is where ion discharge happens (in case of lightning from the ground up), hence why lighting rods have spikes instead of being plain wire or why trees with lots of branches get hit

>A roof can be protected by multiple lightning rods. An old question is whether pointed rods or blunt rods work best. Some recent research (a couple of recent studies: "Measurements of Lightning Rod Responses to Nearby Strikes," C.B. Moore, G.D. Aulich, and W. Rison, Geophys. Res. Lett., 27, 1487-1490, 2000 and "Lightning Rod Improvement Studies," C.B. Moore, W. Rison, J. Mathis, G. Aulich, J. Appl. Meteorol., 39, 593-609, 2000 ) suggest that the blunt rods might be more effective. The NFPA allows either type to be used. Rods should be at least 10 inches tall.
There's also wire mesh or just plain wire protection.
>lightning traveling 10km of ionised air could give less of a shit about 5m wood beam vs steel pipe
As I said, negligible amounts.

Grounding shoes are shoes that have no rubber or a copper stainless steel system that grounds you. They help with elements like inflammation, arthritis, anxiety, depression. They are like moccasins. They are available from places like Raum and Earth Runners. They should be worn for 10 to 20 minutes a day.

Other way around anon!
Electrical hazard boots insulate you so the current that goes across your heart *might* not be enough to kill you.
Explosive Chemical hazard boots ground you so you *shouldn't* build up enough charge to static shock a volatile chemical that will go boom.
Do *not* mix these up. Do *NOT* mix these up.

Lightning isn't just the bolt that you see in a thunderstorm, there is a whole webing of static electricity that comes before it, when one of those hits thd ground, the bolt that you see discharges through it.

Not true. A lot of research has gone into the fact that going barefoot improves proprioception, and you when your feet are in closer contact to the ground the friction created by walking on debris quite literally grants you magnetic stability. Granted I can't move as fast or on as rough terrain, but I fare a lot better and my feet feel way better going barefoot and wearing thin shoes.

>>
>>2796919
the only time I have experienced grounding was after a hippie told me to stand on a rock shelf while in the water.

I have no evidence, I have no argument it against it.
I just felt better and for about a week after my ankles and toes felt better than 99% of my adult life.
The rest of my body did not feel any different and grounding my feet seemed to have no benefit in anything that wasn't physically grounded by a few inches to the grounding source.
