Hey /out/. I dont know if this is the right board for this, but its the closest i think. So I recently inherited my family's old cabin, which is on an island, surrounded by a forest and a lake. I've been to said island a million times throughout my life, but never alone. As a kid, i was always told horror stories about the woods by my older bro and our cousins, and somehow they stuck to adulthood. Now, im going to have to face my anxiety about the forest since the cabin needs some work before its livable, and also because i want to spend time there alone as well. Any good tips, aside from bringing a gun, because Europe.Pic related, a frog hanging out next to my cabinTL;DR: Anon scared of spoopy forest, what do?
>>2799751for self defense you just need some tools (like, a crowbar, or a shovel, or an axe or sheddy if you got one). The other most important tool for self defense is an extremely bright flashlight. Like, not less than 3000 lumens (real lumens, no chineaze lumens) but if you can find something that pushes 5000 or 10000 you'll be fucking set. That will absolutely discover, blind, and disarm anyone at night near or far. If someone has their eyes adjusted to night vision and you blast them with one of those they will be blind for at least a couple minutes which gives you absolute upper hand. I keep my 3000lm spotlight next to the bed in case of a home intruder (even during the day this thing is blinding). The only other thing that's going to help is just getting used to it. I used to get spoop'd out all the time alone in the woods even during the day, nevermind at night. But I just started doing it more; hikes, field recording expeditions, campouts, you name it. And after awhile you just get comfortable. You'll be fine. Also this sounds fucking awesome, I'm truly envious of your cabin island. I wish you all the best in your renovations and enjoying this family spot.
>>2799751Scandi?> Anon scared of spoopy forest, what do? Have you tried not being a pussy?
>>2799751>face my anxiety about the forestwhy? what's the danger?
>>2799752this is the advice i was going to give. cops and soldiers do this. you should, as well. bonus: when it turns out that there's nothing to fear, you have a kickass flashlight for power issues
>>2799751>Any good tips, aside from bringing a gun, because Europe.Bring a gun, protection from predators in the wilderness is an allowed use.
>>2799751Bubba I'm the single most dangerous thing in the forest at any given time, and by the faggotry you posted I can tell I ain't near you. That being said, congrats. Your inheritance sounds incredible. The woods are much less dangerous than any city shithole, still you should always carry something to defend yourself because you can rest assured degenerates will. You sound homosexual, so your options are limited to pepper spray.
>>2799751Where in the world are you anon, what kind of spooky shit are we dealing with here
>>2799878The only dangerous woods in Europe are those close to large cities due to a presence of drug-peddling wog rubbish. Bears are another menace in other areas.
First, define what you're scared of.>wildlifeMost animals don't want to kill you like video games. If bears are a concern, get a pack bell and bear spray (if legal). If its something else, get a sturdy 5"-8" knife. Bear spray works on stuff thats not bears but aerosol can be temperamental if its cold. You can get spears from brands like Condor or Cold Steel pretty cheap but you'll look like a lunatic if the law gets involved, a normal woods axe is probably a lot more practical an can still be a hell of a weapon. My choice would be something between a large hatchet and a ~25" 'boys axe', smaller and you give up a lot of reach, larger and you give up a lot of speed.>peopleAgain, bear/pepper spray. Pom and Sabre Red are good and the knife still works.>supernatural stuffDepends on what lore you buy into and heavily depends on where you are.Generally if you don't go bumbling into someone or something's 'camp' they probably won't attack you.
>>2799878>>2799765There have been literally nothing but moose and deers spotted in the surrounding area in decades. I'm just not used to being there alone at night, because i wanted to spend my teenage years getting shitfaced in the city we lived in rather than at the cottage, and now i want to overcome this idiotic anxiety instead of selling the place for pennies.>>2799847Yeah but the loicence- issue is big one here in the nordics
>>2799752This is similar to the strategy that an Andrew Yang voter developed. While at an Andrew Yang rally, I walked right by it and had nothing better to do, which was poorly attended btw, this young woman made a rambly declaration of her family's self-defense strategy that she developed. Instead of having to resort to guns or knives, they would just bash an intruder over the head with a heavy flashlight. There is no need for anyone to have guns in this world when we have flashlights for protection. The Yangster seemed discomforted by the cringe.
>>2799959just blinding intruders and discovering snoopers who think they're hiding in the shadows. contrary to pop'lar belief no flashlight is really suitable as a melee weapon. however, a powerful flashlight, when paired with a melee weapon, is quite a formidable combo. and if you have a blinding light and more than one person with a melee weapon you truly have the upper hand.it is however not advisable to bring even a powerful light and crowbar to a gun fight. one must use their good sense in every situation.https://youtu.be/2BcUQbx9mGI?si=Pkq9lEC9EBQkybwc
