Mine is the sweet, sweet air of the conifer forests of the West.
>>
Hmmm, that's actually kinda tough..
I would say it highly depends on where I'm at, like, if I'm by the coast, the fresh sea breeze, slight smell of washed up seaweed, that "dusty" sensation you get in your nose, perfect
But, if its a fall camp, in dense Woods where I swear I can almost smell the moss? Also perfect

Sniffing a freshly plucked chantrelle, eggs on the campfire in the morning.
Don't make me choose man

for me, it's one of two things.

1. the intense petrichor that pervades the air every autumn in New England

2. the late night charcoal smell of a campfire that has stopped burning but is still smoldering
>>
burning gum leaves. Tobacco from a pipe, much nicer than a cig. All my gear is proofed with linseed oil so the smell of that too.
>>
>>2810854
>gum leaves
gosh that's a proper nice smell. we get to enjoy it so rarely these days what with the near full-time bans and such

I am going to snag myself some for my tinderbox as we approach the rainy months. I have only been caught out without a fire once and it was bloody miserable!
>>
>>2810838
First thing I thought of was wet sagebrush
>>
>>2810858
you should absolutely grab some leaves and even branches to keep dry over winter and roast them when you can. granted, during winter it's not so controversial to burn deadfall, but in summer it's kind of a no-no.

>>2810863
sage is always good, wet, dry, or burning
>>
Not always but sometimes the smell of DEET bug spray takes me right back to camping as a young boy

Smells like life.

Rocky Mountains: Pine Needles on the ground
New England: fresh mud and leaves.
Midwest: The smell of horses and cows. (not shit). When you walk country paths between farms you'll always get curious horses and cows coming by and they have a very distinct smell. They smell like a clean animal.
Colorado: Melting Snow. Burned Weed.
California: Sea Breeze

I was fishing in a dirty creek that usually smells like dead animals and sometimes sewage, a couple days ago. On Thursday, I got an intense smell of a floral hand cream my mom used to use 15+ years ago. I'm in the upper Midwest. The stream just opened up, so nothing is blooming. It's snowing tonight. I freaked out some people as I went in, and the smell was so strong it was as if a woman was right behind me, stalking me. Like I said, dirty creek, and I was in a somewhat industrial area. There is a famous company that makes shampoo and body wash, but they are on the other side of town.

lilac perfume is wonderful, there's also the smells of ultra specific trees - some quite fragrant, but I lack the knowledge base to differentiate what smells represent specific trees

>>2811543
there's this part of my brain that's so primitive and it can smell wood smoke from miles away
AND it can smell the difference between plain wood and wood + meat but EITHER way it just goes "walk towards the smell I will guide you" if im really hungry

Are you the sugarshackanon?
>>
>>2812340
I made that thread yesterday, but I haven't built a shack yet. Basically I have to decide if I'm making a shack to support my current production or if I will increase the number of trees I tap, and build a shack to support increased production, with stuff like holding tanks and a sap preheater for the stove, etc etc.
