How can i get into sailing as a beginner? I've dreamed about it for a while and want to start studying.I have some questions:1: Is long term sailing a thing? For example staying out on the sea for a couple months, or is that a thing of the past?2: Is there a dedicated community to sailing where i can find other people to sail with me? I'm not sure if this is a pipe dream i will have to do alone or not since i've only thought about it.3: What are good books/resources i can use to help me get into this? 4: Is it possible to get an internet connection out on the sea? (Sorry if this is a stupid question)Thanks to everyone who replies.

Definitely still a thing. I worked with a guy who's parents were retired, and basically kept their suburban house only because it was paid for while they sailed the tropics of the world, sailboats are expensive as a hobby but inexpensive as a lifestyle. Their boat only used a few gallons of gas a year entering and exiting marinas, there is no rent if you can anchor off shore and take a tender to land to get supplies, and you can go to places where food is basically free and catch as much fish as any person would ever want to eat. It is a kind of "bum" lifestyle though it seems silly to say it that way.
