If you wanted to reduce the world to bizarre forms or something truly surreal-looking, it would have to be a medium requiring the illumination of something probably dangerous, or an incredibly sensitive sensor.

While it can be cool, what I've learned from experience and research is that photographing in different wavelengths is still photography- which is to say that recognisable figures and forms will never be novel. Aleatoric drawings or digital radioactive decay paintings have more potential for pure novelty. Accepting the limits and the finite quality of photography is part of making good images.

I did conversions on my D90 and D5600
For the D90, it ended up shit and I could only use the live view because my focus was thrown off
The D5600 conversion was much more technical because I actually recalibrated focus when I did the conversion
Are you shooting film or digital?

IR has a completely different profile than visible. When you're shooting infrared, midday peak sun will look like a midnight with full moon, while one hour from twilight will look like full sun because of the way that IR scatters through the atmosphere.
If you're shooting IR, pick shots that have either foliage or reflective surfaces, because both handle IR in a different way than visible
a channel swap isn't a big deal, but IR can look good without a channel swap, too

Basically for my digishits, I expose between around ~ -1.5 to -0.3 EV for two reasons:
>when I'm using an IR720 filter, I'm running and gunning, so I'd rather bring up the exposure in post if I need to, and have my shutterspeed faster
>when I'm shooting with certain lenses, IR will hotspot pretty aggressively at certain focus distances or zooms (non-primes), so in live view, lower exposure compensation makes it easier to see if I'm hotspotting too much

It's not difficult, it's just a process
on the technical side, with the D5600, it was a more complicated conversion than I was expecting, because the camera actually had a hot filter wired to the control board. I'm not sure why. Couple that with the fact that the IR-pass filter that I bought didn't actually fit, and I was stuck flying by the seat of my pants.
It ended up being that I could safely pull the filter off and just disconnect the ribbon cable, and the camera still worked. No idea why or how.

The issue then becomes that infrared focuses at a different distance than visible light, which is not as much of an issue as you would think unless you're trying to focus visually.
For live view, most cameras will focus using edge detection, which means that you can leave your focus on the backplane in the visible light area, and if you shoot filtered, live view will focus correctly, while when you're shooting visible light, the IR will give you nice gentle halation that looks cool unfiltered.
This was also my reasoning for not filtering directly in front of the sensor, since that would have required more calibration.

Once you've removed the hot filter (the light blue glass) from the sensor, as you're putting it back together, the D5600 at least (and I'd assume most of the APS-C DSLRs excluding the D5XX series) has a sensor held to the control board with springed screws, so basically you just mount the camera to a tripod with either a ruler or dedicated focus tester and:

>shoot
>look
>loosen or tighten screws a quarter turn
>repeat
until your focus through the viewfinder matches what the camera shoots

The channel swap can be saved as a preset, basically it's just changing the channels from (blue- 100% blue) and (red- 100% red) to (blue- 100% red) and (red- 100% blue)

You can shoot normal, but it's not a true visible light only shot. That pic was with an unmodified D3, if I lined up a shot that I thought was good, I'd shoot with my non-IR cam as well.

I think that's a function of the fact that there are very few tutorials on how to actually do it. It's really not any harder than building a gundam kit, it's more just time-consuming if you miss something.
At my previous day job, I would fix confocal microscopes and honestly if you're messing with optical systems, as long as you're not touching the optical elements themselves, it's pretty easy

Am i the only one who doesn't gets the joy in shooting digital anymore ?!?!
I've been using digi & film for years. Especially digi when iam out photographing with a person
taking portraits and ig art shots and if the person is interesting enough i'll also take some film shots too.
But when iam alone, walking around, wanting to ask strangers for a street portrait or doing street photography it's always my film cameras.
Lately i tried to shoot more digital and either i don't really want to or i get home and get bored by the shots and don't want to edit and delete later..
What is the solution for this ?? Should i concentrate on one single lens, one theme or so ??

Whereas digital is never really real. It's ethereal, never tangible, it's an idea. Endlessly reproducible, 1s and 0s that represent a sampling of light that exists in the abstract forever.

Ironically I can't tell if you're making fun of me. I believe the core of the idea, but the flowerly language is mostly just shitposting. I do actually think that film creating a unique representation of that moment, which is subject to being lost, damaged or destroyed is a core component of why film feels different than digital though
