What are some rules or tricks that will help you get better at taking photos?
The one i have so far is only 1 shot per scene. No more 20 shots burst.
What do you do to help you get better?

The exact opposite, you have to work a scene in many cases to get anything good

Read cinematography books and acquire a wealth of ideas.
One shot per scene doesn't seem like a good idea, any given amount is a bad idea IMO. If anything learn to previsualize so you can get worthy photos.

1 shot per scene is the opposite of what you should do

Bracket, OVFs are too low res, EVFs need too much zoomy scrolly. Most good photographers bracketed and worked their negatives in the darkroom and now they edit their raws, same shit. Ansel adams left behind hundreds of practice negs, most street photographers left behind thousands of unused photos.

You're conflating photography with marksmanship - one shot one kill.
