sure makes me appreciate modern high end lenses a lot, but at the same time it almost feels like cheating.
>>
Vinatge lenses are absolute shit by today's standards, my 24-70/2.8 ED wide open takes a giant shit on my Jupiter-3 stopped down to f/16

The only reason they are relevant is people larping as Henri Cartier-Bresson, bokehfaggots and a few people who still enjoy shooting a mechanical film camera. I have a full set for my Canon 7 and love them but I', tired of Jewtube faggots memeing them up into unobtanium. I remember when Meyer-Optik Trioplan 100mm lenses for m42 were like 50 bucks, now they are 700 because some Jewtube fag shilled them.

you say that yet 99.9% of all photofags just manipulate their pics in some sort of software anyway. So who cares that a lens is able to to capture what it seems more accurately when its going to be manipulated to hell regardless.

Schizoid nonsense that’s objectively unmeasurable. Same as other such “I overpaid for a shitty old lens” copes as 3D pop

>>
>>4325175
Falling for this meme inadvertently got me into shooting 35mm because meme lens prices don't apply as often to listings made by attic-cleaners who are selling their whole unrestored camera in "idk the shutter works" condition and don't know what a light seal is. I eventually cleaned up one of the least fucked up bodies I had and put a roll through it, giving myself that worm in the process.
>>
>>4325189
This would be a good lens for studio portraits
>>
>>4325175
Maximum sharpness and color accuracy is not always the goal. And don't say that you can always soften/desaturate in post. Optical "aberrations" are impossible to fully recreate in software, because they respond differently across focal distances. It's the same reason iPhone/Samsung "portrait mode" is shit and can't truly mimic shooting with a shallow depth of field.

Certain effects can only be achieved in camera.

This was shot with the (arguably) worst version of Jupiter-9, somewhere between f5.6/f8. Don't know what side of the argument it supports and I couldn't care less, it's just a cheap 85mm that works.

I recently began collecting some vintage lenses within the last year. I can upload examples if anyone wants.

Starting with the 50/1.4 Super-Takumar (8 element version) - known for flaring like hell when wide open but cleans up after stopping down while still retaining character. Pretty solid all around.

Then I obtained a 105/2.5 Nikkor (AI version) - this was the one used for the famous Afghan girl portrait. Great lens, and I regret passing it off when I was consolidating my collection because it seemed redundant at the time. Oops.

I also bought a Helios 44m-4 for that sweet meme swirl. I still need to try it out some more.

My most recent purchases are from the Contax/Yashica line from Zeiss. So far I have the 28/2.8 MM, the 50/1.4 MM, the 85/1.4 MM, and the 135/2.8 AE. I'm really digging this set in particular.

Pic related is the Contax 50/1.4.

Auto Takumar 55mm f1.8.

This is a video still taken with this lens. I get heaps of request for this softer kind of look of the vintage lens by clients including this and the Helios 44. Lots of folks want something a bit different than everything else out there shot on super sharp contemporary glass. How many Sigma art lens looks can you stomach? Cold and clinical. Lots of clients say they want something more emotive and these cheap old lenses lend an emotional abstraction to the image that a lot of people are drawn to if used right. I've got a set of super sharp Zeiss lenses and that look hardly gets asked for.

I love that halation, it's reminds me of every dream sequence from 80s low budget tv shows

I don't post photos here and neither should you. I will continue to make it actively a bad place to post photos until my demands are met:

>remove the captcha
>change the maximum file size to 20mb
>allow users to upload multiple photos at once
>implement thread-based IDs

Until then I will be posting my photos everywhere except here and I will be making it as annoying as possible for people who do post here.

Best thing is with the Imagon the amount of softness that you want can be controlled precisely using the 3 different grades of diffuser discs. These discs can then be dialed in with sliders for further control. Really neat old lens. Here is another example with the number 2 disc fully open. Shot on film with my RZ67 proii and Portra film.

I think this one is actually good as opposed to the cheesiness of the corvette shot. Some more still life's with the black background would be a sick project. I just looked up the lens, how are you using it?
>>
>>4328950
The corvette one is set to maximum diffusion. The flower mid. There is another step down that is quite nice and subtle and probably what I will use for portraiture. I haven't had it long so I really haven't had much of a chance to do more than a couple of quick tests. Set up with the Zork Tubus into the RZ lens base that I bought it with. Then I either put it straight on the RZ or use a Photodiox adapter to my R5.

I didn't mind paying slightly more for the 8-element version because I didn't want to mess around with de-yellowing the thoriated element. Green fringing can be annoying, but it's not too bad with green backdrops (and a non-issue entirely in B&W).
>>4328663
Nice. I'll look into this one.

I have a pair of more modern zoom lenses that I can use if I'm taking photos for others, but I've been slowly changing my prime collection over to mostly older glass. I know it's a bit of a meme, but I really am digging my Contax Zeiss collection. I have found that they can start approaching a clinical quality when stopped down far enough, but look wonderful when wide open or only slightly closed.

First is neat in a cheesy 80s way. The second one in particular is gorgeous.

That's really cool. I wonder if there are other lenses with built-in diffuser dials.

I had briefly considered tracking down the Softar filter set until I saw the prices. I'll keep looking.
>>
>>4329766
The other variable soft focus lens that I have is the 180mm VSF Mamiya for the RZ67 medium format system. Also an interesting lens

Any Tamron/Vivitar/Tokina etc glass with nice weird output to look out for? These lenses usually cost only a few bucks.

Long tome Contax SLR and Hasselblad owner here.

The 28mm f2 is great, have the 21mm f2.8 in EOS mount. Amazing lenses

Use a 50th Anniversary 85mm f1.2 but prefer the 85 1.4

Tokina made a 90/2.5 macro lens in the 80s that has a reputation for its bokeh. I haven't tried it myself.
>>4332142
I would've liked to try the 28/2 but it was just a bit out of my budget, same with the 21. I have a ZE 18/3.5, but it's been difficult to get comfortable with.

Here is the #1 disc on the Imagon again only half way open this time, so quite a subtle glow compared to the stronger discs.

Yo vintage gearfags, I'm thinking of adapting some older, possibly M42 shit onto an M43 body. Planing on dipping my toes in the water with the Industar 50-2 f/3.5 50 mm.

Is there any warnings, recomendations, expectations that any anons can give me if I go down this path? Cheers
>>
>>4337107
Guess those won't fit because of the 1mm size difference
>>
>>4325185
>now they are 700 because some Jewtube fag shilled them
Why get emotional about it?
This just means that impressionable zoomers will be buying this trash instead of inflating the price on good lenses.
>>
>>4337114
Are you autistic, or just deciding to be unhelpful. Or is there an actual point there you'd like to explain?
>>
I own many lenses. But my gotoo's are the exceptional long barrel Nikkor 35mm f2.8 Ai (with my Nikon D2x), and the unrivalled Nikkor 50mm f2 H.C. Auto/Ai.

I also use a Nikkor 28mm f3.5 Ai-S, which is also a very good lens.

When using my very portable Nikon FG, I use the second version of the Series E 50mm f1.8 (very good with lens hood) along with the aforementioned 28mm.

Have the local witch-doctor check for possible curses attached to them, buy quartz-crystals and drink lots of water after noon.

What if I take it to a local Dominos and have 'em slap it with a pepperoni
