That has been my biggest frustration with digicams for sure. I have a powershot G5 which hits focus sometimes but there is no way to know until you load everything into LR. I would say stick to center spot AF, that is what gives me the best results on older shit

Get it B&W converted (~$1200) next time you feel like consooming. As a bonus the sensor gains a full stop of sensitivity and 50% more real resolution (in the same filesize).

Managing the highlight rolloff is something I have big problems with currently, if I underexpose the file, the info is there, but I don't like to lower the highlight slider, and I don't like how brushing over it, then lowering highlights look.

Been thinking on one but idk, I had a 50R but I didn't like it much (slow), that one does video really well, but my jobs don't pay GFX money, not year at least, kinda think I could get an A1 or a7RV for the price and keep trucking along on e-mount.

How you feeling about it? How much of a hassle you feel the file size is? Do you feel it sluggish? What would you wish was better?

They aren't snapshits. They clearly are considered photos, the problem is that the subject of the photos is the specs of the camera, rather than real subjects. All of the photos are just fine. They are purposefully constructed to show off the strengths of the camera and they come out looking like marketing materials rather than actual photos. They are just generically 'nice', except the gas station, that one isn't very good and feels like a snapshit

Really, get what you can afford. The GFX 100 II is not what I'd call a slow or sluggish camera. It feels very much like the Canon DSLR/mirrorless cameras I've used up until now, but with a little more shutter lag on the mechanical shutter. And I'm not using it for fast action, sports, etc. so I'm not taking a thousand photos at a time (still have the Canon for that) so file size is not too much of a concern. Just do more deletion of bad shots. But if you can afford it and want the quality, it's worth every penny.

I get the impression I'm doing something wrong with the colours in these photos, but I'm not sure what. I went for subtle colour grading; orange shadows, green mids, medium blue highlights. I haven't increased red saturation in the first, just brightness.

Thanks, yes they just stood still. Only one photo had any significant blur, but I didn’t mind that part so much, the lights just didn’t really work in that frame. The talent kept wanting to see the results each time which slowed us down but it was a for fun shoot so I didn’t crack down and insist that we do take after take.

I think next time I’d try to bring some diffusion for this cheap light tube, like wrap it in muslin or some tracing paper. That or use an Astera titan instead of a Godox lol.

My name is Little John and I have been saving money by eating frugally for 10 years. I finally managed to save half a million and bought a tiny apartment in Quito, less than one square meter. It‘s so small not even my grandfather’s coffin would fit. There‘s just enough room for a mattress which I sit on to sleep. Now let‘s see how I can turn this into a fully functional house. Firstly, remove the original windows and use galvanized square steel to make two frames that extend outward. I borrow some screws from my aunt to secure them. Cover the frames with neat clean wood veneers. Use leftover veneers as partitions for storing seasonal clothes and bags, then reinstall the windows and set up a perforated board against one wall. I use one side for travel photos and sticky notes and the other side for storage shelves. Add a soft package against the wall for a more comfortable sleep and lay down a soft mattress to create a big comfy bed. Install a guard board near the window where I can place books to read before sleep. Install an electrical socket for convenient phone charging. Add a folding table that serves as both a workspace and dining table, saving space when not in use. At the foot of the bed, install a projection screen where I can relax and watch Korean dramas after work. Next, install a set of wardrobes against the wall. Use the top for seasonal bedding and add a shelf in the middle for other items. Below, two drawers can store clothes including large underwear and panty hose. The other drawer is for additional storage. I made these savings possible through years of frugality. Embed a hidden water tank in the wall and install a wall-mounted toilet. Above it, set up a folding table with an induction cooker to create a mini kitchen. Install a mirror cabinet above the cooker for storing discount seasonings and toiletries bought on sale. Install a built-in shower so I can shower while looking in the mirror.

Great atmosphere, I'd say dial back the grain a hair. Nice color tones, highlight tones. Composition is very wide, visual interest is around the edges, no distinct subject. But it feels good.

At first I was going to say this was weaker than the earlier posts but there's a lot to like here. The bracing cast into the train car beds, the light leak/bloom on the left, the dude walking, the different textures and forms leading to the vanishing point. Would be a good print for a train station.

Wonky perspective, sign should be fully in the frame, whole lot of nothing at the typical intersections. Nice and sharp, well exposed, scattered orange roofs carry the eye around the frame, the mountains are beautiful but you didn't put them there ;)

The subject choice just doesn't interest me but the form and line of the room or enclosure itself, the bokeh and textures, it's all very pleasing. Needs a touch more shadow depth and you have some distracting shadows or visual artifacts behind the figure.

Aside from your diagonal and vertical lines there's not a lot of visual interest to grab the eye here. The hazy cityscape in the background and the path are part of a narrative, they could be more intriguing from a slightly different spot or more towards dusk. Your camera/lens combo (or you in post?) are rendering the foliage and stones with excessive sharpening. The image is flat and lacks good tonality.

But it is in focus, it is composed, and you should go out and shoot more :)

This angle is really good, the whole thing has that voyeuristic feel that street photography does so well. Nice color tones. Steel plate in the road and the cable vaults on the sidewalk have great texture. That lady's head intersecting the pole kills it though, if you'd snapped 5 more in the same few seconds you'd have a better one.
