Why are some photographers so worked up over that?>Aspherical optics are creating sharper images than ever before, new technology makes it easier to manufacture.>NOOOO SØY-RINGS NOOOOO THE BOKEH NOOOOOO.
>>4334324pixel peepingi have never seen this shit except when checking focus. both exporting for 4k and printing at 250+dpi makes it invisible.
w-huh??? where would this appear? what even is that image?
>>4334329In the bokeh balls
>>4334330holy pixel peep batman. OP better show us some examples of photographers actually getting upset over this, I won't believe anyone would actually care about this otherwise.
>>4334324would /p/ like to discuss difference of multiple aspherical elements vs none aspherical elements plus software correctioni hear canon 28mm has three aspherical elements
>>4334353Underrated banger of a lens.
>>4334330>>4334343I had to zoom wayyyyyyy the fuck in to see that one some of my first images with a crappy rf-s-55-210mm, who genuinely gives a fuck about this lmfao.Checking my RF100-400mm it's barely noticeable on the corners>pic relI'll post the ones from the RF-S-55-210mm after>>4334353>>4334355unironically been eyeing that lens landscapes and maybe astro stopped down besides my rf50mm 1.8f(which needs to be stopped down to 2.8f to be sharp). Any experience with it?
>>4334400>double dubsniceHere's the rfs-55-210mm one
>>4334324They can actually be a bit distracting in images with huge bokeh balls from long lenses and specular highlights at night like using a 135mm at night in the city.
>>4334400This screenshot is from this image: >>4332183>>4334401This one is one of the first pictures I've ever taken with my r50 that blew my mind being brand new into the hobby which made me pursue it further. Not an incredible image by any means but fell in love from it lmao.>pic rel>>4334403Do you have any examples? I can see how it'd maybe be annoying on absolutely massive bokeh balls but I feel like the lack of bokeh balls would make the overall image worse rather than the onion ring ones.[EXIF data available. >>4334353>multiple aspherical elements vs none aspherical elements plus software correctionwhat if I told you that software correction is frequently needed even for lenses with multiple aspherics?
And don't even mention the cat-eye bokeh
>>4334417this is mechanical vignetting and has nothing to do with aspherical elements. lens manufacturers could eliminate this phenomenon completely by using ungodly large front diameters. I bet building a 50mm lens with a 122mm front diameter would eliminate this completely.
>>4334417This shit is awesome and no-one can convince me otherwise
>>4334455Yup, but it is another one of those things that some put way too much importance in.
>>4334455>What is 58/1.2 Noct-Nikkor
>>4334329it is the self interference of light waves within a lens which creates this pattern>>4334324when I was younger, I created a homemade laser interferometer and used a camera lens to format the final output of the device. I was able to see (and morph/interact with) this exact pattern as it was projected onto my wall. with miniscule adjustments to the air between my mirrors, I was able to create immeasurably small disturbances in the fluid and witnessed an evolution of the interference pattern which I only wish I could describe. truly a beautiful and complex sight which I will never forget. light itself is an amazing entity and we are lucky to have engineers who have come before us and built these cameras to capture it, even for a moment. the interplay of light is one of the greatest mysteries of the cosmos, and one we still work on understanding today
>>4334456I like it too, especially as they curve around the edge of a frame
>>4334456>>4334674It's distracting as fug
>>4334739Cat surrounded by catseye bokeh balls would be peak kinoThe distracting part there is the soap bubble balls and busy nervous looking bokeh
>>4334739I think the soap bubble effect is more distracting than the cats eye effect
>>4334568>it is the self interference of light waves within a lens which creates this patternreally? coz I'm pretty sure it's because of the "ridges" or unevenness on the surface of the asphere due to imperfect molding or polishing
>>4334773Poor quality finish on the optics. I bet it's sigma
