>>4340198Your shots are clean my fren, you have a fantastic eye for framing and composition
>>4340200i live in scotland. was down there for work for a couple of months. agreed, it's stunning down that way. i stumbled on lansallos by chance whilst driving around randomly. regret not getting out with the camera more. i'll be back down next year though. want to visit some of the fishing villages along the coast.
Here's mine: instagram.com/vvvguzmanI enjoy shooting whatever, looking to do portraits someday but right now just street I guess. I love instagram threads because you get to follow anons who actually take pics.
instagram.com/hibachiwolfe/Mweee why is color film so expensive
>>4340669Thanks friend, glad to hear I'm doing things right.>>4340765Portraits can be hard to get into I think. It's easy to ask random people on the street since you don't know them/won't see them again, but it feels awkward as shit to try and ask people you know.
>>4340926>but it feels awkward as shit to try and ask people you knowTrue. I've asked my acquaintaces and just a couple have helped but I would need even more models in order to build my portfolio. Guess I will have to pay for them models.
>>4339243Your photos have this lonely, desolate feeling to them that I appreciate, and I'm curious to see how you will portray SEA. >>4339860Thanks. Like that another anon said, you do have a nice eye for composition, especially for those geometric shapes.>>4340659Happy to see some actual good street photography from the PH! seeing these threads just helps to further the point that I just suck lol
>>4341028Don't be so hard on yourself bro, everyone started out shitty and still makes some mediocre stuff. >>4341028Just remember that the IG feeds are curated from any of these anons' work over the years. Most of the ones I post on mine are from the last two years or more, and are thoughtfully chosen from the thousands of the photos I take. And I even plan my grid in advance with a planner app (Planoly and Plann), because I want mine to look nice. To me, it functions as a gallery or portfolio exhibition.Really, if you do want to take photos you like, you have to get out there and just shoot, and then put some thought into choosing which photos you want to show to the world. I heard from some Youtube guy that "you are remembered for your best photos," and I remind myself that constantly so I don't just put out any random shit just for the sake of it.

>>4341329Based take. I >>4340198 feel like I've fallen away from the "only post your best" lately though, I scrolled through my profile and there's a stark contrast in quality once you rollback about 2 years.

>>4341028Instagram is very dead for photography. You can't share photos with non-insta users. You can't share full sized photos with anyone. It's a website that uses its users as advertising to collect other peoples data. So, anyone who still uses it has probably been using it for over 5 years.
>>4341507Surprised to see an insta thread at all, pretty sure flickr is the de-facto site for real photographers.
>>4341527you mean for boomer with a fugly DSLR
>>4341310stop snapshitting then.think about composition and light before you even put the camera to your eye.infact, you dont even need the camera.learn about good composition, read some articles. look at some classic paintings. watch movies with great cinematography.then, in your daily life, start looking for it in the environment around you. imagine good photos.it's not a game of chance.

>>4341507>>4341527IG is the best we have desu, nobody uses Flickr. Fucking shame since higher res and not being stuck with 1x1 or 4x5 would be better.>>4342120Your quality is a little inconsistent. Some photos have no subject or proper composition (like the third row) while others (like the cut down trees on the river) are excellent and tell a great story. My advice is work on composition and subject matter.

>>4343214Thanks! I do have some single frame shots of the multiple exposures but 1) they're often really fucking boring 2) the amount of film it uses up is expensive since I only get 10 frames per roll. But I hear ya, it is interesting to see the regular scene too.
>>4341593Nice theme on your tumblr page. Enjoyed scrolling through it. So much nicer than IG.
>>4343336Oh shit, you do them on film? What are you, a millionaire?
>>4343445bruh you can shoot unlimited exposures on the same frame, but I am guessing that anon is using some medium format camera since he mentioned 10 per roll, so 6x9?
>>4343446In camera exposures is obvious, I thought he was taking single frames and then fusing them together later.
>>4343445Yes I do them on film. I buy a few boxes at a time when it goes on sale. Usually Kodak Gold and Tri X because they sell for £8 a roll on sale. And I am technically a multi-millionaire, working towards billionaire status. I live in Vietnam. >>4343446You are correct, I use a Mamiya RB67
>>4343609Great! Maybe after a few thousands of these you'll get a few worth printing. I get what you're trying to do but they all miss the mark, minus maybe the bench one. That one has that distant memory type of feel.
>>4343214Thanks! I gave you a follow, I like the graphics you have with some of your photos, different and refreshing. I haven't seen that before. Because of you and a few others I've decided to start posting again. I only started taking portraits cause some bitter woman couldn't handle critique years ago and lashed out and said all my photos look like postcards so I started taking photos of people to prove I could do it better than her. >>4344411>am i cropping in too far?Closer or further away is subjective. If you really want the subject to be seen, you're going pretty good. I'd personally scale back just a little for breathing room but that's just my subjective opinion.
>>4344412on IG wide pics tend to squish a lot of details on the subjectand most of the time the background isn't that interesting, it's just tree branches so i try to crop in as much as the detail allows with a bit of breathing room i normally include a wide pic at the end of the carousel to make up for ithere is the uncropped version of my recent post for examplei wasn't as close as i'd like to be, but it was a clear shot[EXIF data available. >Into car photography not the best photographer by any means>just have a canon r10 and mostly use my Canon 55-250mm 4.0-5.6 lens and a cheap canon 1.8 50mm>have gone to a few car shows here and there taken pics but decide to try to do a bit more this time buy a Canon portable little Selphy CP1500 mobile printer>print off 30+ pictures of peoples cars and motorcycles handing them out to people at the car meet write my instagram on the back>not a single follow or even profile view/like on any of my postsDamn, that's a bit deflating to say the least. My posts are not even getting a single like or even view it seems like by anyone. I am using a decent amount of tags but nothings really happened since I have made a few posts.
>>4345706What demographic though? Boomers don't use it and a lot of carbros don't have Instagram. I'm a car guy myself but a lot of my friends don't have IG and have no interest in it, and just use Facebook.Funnily enough, the only car related instagram photos I see are from photographers and never normies that own a car.
>>4345713Not boomer cars, younger people cars JDM etc all kinds of newer stuff not just some boomer meet where half the boomers have never even been on instagram obviously.
>>4345715That can still be hit and miss, I only know one or two car guys that have IG (and I mean guys under 30, not boomers)I did street portraits for a while and I'd always get follows and business that followed later, but cars seemed to be a dead market. I think car guys tend to just take photos of their own cars.
>>4345717It just seems bizarre, almost every single car had their IG plastered on it and I usually take a pic of it to then tag them in the photos later on IG and I did that and doesn't seem to have even helped. I don't know, maybe people see I have 3 followers and just don't care or something. The car meet was plastered on IG, it's how I found out about it, seemed like every single person there had an IG.
>>4345719>almost every single car had their IG plastered on it and I usually take a pic of it to then tag them in the photos later on IG and I did that and doesn't seem to have even helpedAlright in that case, that's pretty weird, usually at least one should follow. I suppose it could be the low follower count? I'm not sure, but that is really surprising.
>>4345720Yeah, I don't know either. No idea how to properly grow a page really, I guess I just have to keep going out to car meets and taking pics. But still thought people would think it's cool getting physical pics, which people did they seemed thankful and surprised by them and thought they were sick. But then they don't even like the post I tagged them in for the pics or even look at it for all I know.
>>4345723Things haved changed a lot with IG. Back in the day, I'd get followers just from tags, but that has pretty much died. Every follower I get now is from here, friends or people I meet IRL that I take photos for/of.I think try and grow your folio, post in IG threads here and get some photo advice from /rpt/. In saying that too, don't take everything to heart that /p/ says, some posters can be assholes sometimes.
>>4345685>your screenshot looks like shit quality compared to actually going on instagramwell yeah, phone screenshots do that
>>4345726Yeah, it would seem IG is used a lot less now. I just have no idea where else to post pics that normies/semi-normies will see. I don't want to get BTFO too hard posting shit pics and my IG with 3 followers, but maybe I will post it.

>>4345706>>4345726So far i have the most followers in this thread, ill tell you what i know>interact in your nichefind other people who do car photos, follow them and spam them with likes, comment something like "great shots" use hashtags or find a popular account and go through their comments to find more accounts in your nichedon't follow the giant accounts, look at the follower ratio, if it's pretty close they should follow back>DON'T do follow 4 follow with randomsthis will kill your post engagement, many people just unfollow anyway. instagram shows your post to like 20% (IDK exact number) of your followers, if they like it, instagram will show it to another 20%.if enough of your followers like it, instagram will show it to people who aren't following you. if they like it, instagram shows it to more, that's how it works. your followers need to interact with your posts otherwise they are halting your overall reach. >use a set of tiny hashtagsyou will never show up on a popular hashtag, use specific #s like the exact model of car, brand, and location - not #cars #carmeet20 hashtags is ideal. just steal hashtags from other accounts. keep a big rotation, i have a word document with 4 sets of 20 i usesome people don't use hashtags at all, but its a tiny bit more reachThere is a cheese method that will get you loads of (inactive) followers extremely fast, but i don't recommend it at all since it will kill your engagement, and most will unfollowthere are about 1000 self-promo posts like this: https://www.instagram.com/p/C6eQeiWLQqL/all you have to do is spam like recent comments and people will follow (and then probably unfollow when you post something and they realize you didn't follow back)don't like more than 50 in 30min or IG will limit your account. THIS CAN FUCK YOUR ACCOUNT it took me months to get back to my usual engagement after stopping
>>4345739here is the peak of the cheese method, i think about 1200 unfollowed in totalyou'd have to keep doing it to maintain followers, in the end i didn't get many more than i started with but if you just want to get to 10k for some sponsor deal, this is a easy way (10k is usually minimum requirement) like i said tho, wouldn't recommend, easily biggest mistake i made on IG
>>4345739damn this is some mental illness
>>4345739Cheers for the info anon, seems about the same as trying to grow a twitter and an onlyfans. Looks fuckin daunting to anyone new to this shit but once you slap together a google doc of tags to rotate, potential captions, all the annoying work is done in one sitting now you just copy-paste and watch your ratio It's honestly all fucking cancer but it is what it is, if you want people to actually see your photos.
>>4345753>if you want people to actually see your photos. But people won't. People can't even look at them. They get a login prompt, see the meta logo hiding like a little criminal, remember what mark zuckerberg looks and acts like, and go back to youtube.Only instagram bots will see your shit. If you actually want exposure you need to start a youtube channel. Instagram accounts are just glorified ads for youtube channels to try and target the pseudo-rich (doom spending) milennial retards that still use instagram.
>>4345739Nice info, thanks for the writeup
>>4345739My photography isn't a source of income for me, only mainly as a "I wish more people saw my work and appreciated it" thing, so I'm not going to go through all this effort. It's simply too much for me. I would rather spend some extra cash to have my photos boosted within Instagram, which I do sometimes. It's essentially pay-to-win, or to pay to skip doing all of that effort. But appreciate the effort to write all that out, anon. I'm sure someone will be able to make use of that.
i forgot to mention reelsIG reels show your posts to non followers at a much much higher ratelots of people just make slideshows or do a shitty intro posing the camera then showing the shotyou really need an interesting hook tho, cause IG reels is ADHD scroller central same algorithm applies, the more people who like it the more its promotedif you have a video camera it's worth giving reels a shot>>4345759people who use instagram see it. most young people use instagram, a majority even. make your own website if the gatekeeping popup annoys you, plenty of free hosts and not too hard to set up a basic photo catalog. but there's nothing social about it and you would have to direct people to it from somewhere elseyoutube is a different ballpark, and hard for someone who doesn't do video ive tried using a gopro and wildlife"photovlogging" but unless something interesting happens, why would anyone watch it>>4345753yep that's pretty much it, just copy paste hashtags and follow a few related accounts in your spare time>>4345777be aware with boosted posts they crop it wrong, so many times ive gotten an ad that's completely cut in half cause it wasn't meant for IG reelsIG also puts in shitty elevator music on adsand they artificially lower your reach after your boost ends, so you buy more boostsplenty of people have had decent engagement, bought a boost, then drop to way worse engagement than they started with i agree though, all this shit is basically digital marketing and you can just skip it by using ads issue is if the ads don't get you anywhere, your just donating to a megacorp
>>4345706maybe it's a skill issue. post an example of your car photosi gained 45 followers just from walking around with a camera and talking to people. in fact the main reason i made an ig was strangers kept asking if i posted anywhere and to see my stuff

I even got one job for a few months where they didn't even look at my portfolio and just gave me the job since I knew how to operate cameras properly.
>>4345788Okay, here are a few pictures I have taken. There not the greatest just basic stuff.
>>4345759That's potentially true, don't get me wrong I don't fuckin like Instagram, I haven't even started building one yet. But from my experience if you want one platform to do well, YouTube, whatever. You are going to want to have all other social media platforms to try and funnel people towards it. Once one takes off you can kinda stop but just waiting for the algorithm to start pushing your shit on one platform doesn't always work anymore. It's a load of dystopian bullshit but hey

Unusual question but - do I actually NEED IG for showing off photos? I mean, I was uploading all galleries to my own private site for years, without any IG/FB accounts after having two misadventures with their anti-bot system. I finally managed to make FB account that was NOT auto-blocked (it triggered anti-bot system anyway but this time it was unlocked after sending photo instead of asking for ID scan) and I'm kinda afraid of using it for IG as well. But at the other hand, I do want people to see my photos, I normally don't have anyone outside of 4chan that would look at them.
>>4346491Shitty as it may be, it seems like IG is probably the best chance most of us have to show our ““““““art”””””” to normies and get it out in the world. Is it a bad idea to have lots of genres in one insta? I do wildlife, concert and occasional portrait photography. The wildlife stuff is my passion and it's what is most accessible to me however I have a goal to get paid work doing concert photography. Is it off-putting to potential clients to have bird photos dispersed throughout my concert photos?

>>4339181Why do people bother with insta when everything is so low res there? why is this seen as a photography site, what am I missing
>>4350148It's a worlwide social network, so basically everyone felt like they had to be in it. Everyone on it tells you you have to reach a bigger audience. Yet they realise that big audience, paid or not, does not bring much in itself. So 5K followers could eventually equal a 100 people reach on facebook if they don't react to your pics or pay you for photography or something else. It's just whatever works.
Late to the party, but whatever. https://www.instagram.com/costickler/I don't have anything specific on my, currently procrastinating on setting up a website for the last 6 months.
>>4350150>>4350148I would add - everyone also expects you to be there. When I did photos of some street performance and asked beforehand if I can take and publish these photos, they straight up asked for Instagram contact. Many <30y people in my country don't even use emails anymore, just FB/IG for contact. Kinda stupid situation when you don't really want to give Meta your photos or have to fight against their anti-bot systems.
>>4351311Yeah exactly. I have a friend who just says straight away he doesn't have a facebook or insta when he gets asked for contacts. People are shocked usually, which makes him laugh.

>>4339181In my mind, I’m committed to finally switching to 500px this year. I already quit contributing my work to the amateur content funnel that is insta last year, but actually making a real portfolio to upload to an actual pro photo site is a fucking daunting task.
>>4352634>actually making a real portfolio to upload to an actual pro photo sitemost people who really get exposure have>website (professional portfolio)>flickr (actual photo sharing, optional)>instagram (advertising and just a low grade mirror of flickr posts to maximize noticing, required)>youtube (apparently essential, these days, because the personal is now the professional)
>>4352639Yeah neat. Most people are not working photographers. I have a business to run. My business website is fine. Fuck babysitting social media sharing sites, they don’t drive sales or traffic bc they’re an ocean of snapshittery. >>4360791>coomerbaitlol...anon she took that photo of herself at the vacation, she has a photographic account and posts nice things actually
>>4360802Ok ok, I was just trolling.

do you people get any dms from women? why do i only gay dudes dm me and never any women? i am thinking about giving up instagram and all social media. i am 29 years old virgin and photography has done me no favors. if i was a fag it would have been so much easier.
>>4362332>insta>dms from womennah, nowadays I don't even get followed back
>>4362334>nowadays I don't even get followed backfucking brutal, makes angry. dying with your memory cards is a better option
>>4362332I only get DMs from people I've met IRL. Some of the street stuff I've done has resulted in DMs from some women and I managed to hook up with two, since they were pretty happy with the photos and just seemed sorta interested in me anyway.I think the worst experience I had was when I met a girl that way again but it later turned out she had a bf, and they both ended up DMing me about taking photos of her sucking both our dicks and having me fuck his gf while he watches since he was into voyeur stuff. Needless to say I didn't go for it, it just felt too weird.
>>4362365>Some of the street stuff I've done has resulted in DMs from some women and I managed to hook up with twohow does this works? how do you take the conversation into the sex territory?
>>4362367I just sorta did I guess. I've had Tinder for a number of years and hooked up on that a bit, so you just kind of talk normal and just up the flirting bit by bit (since you obviously can't go balls to the wall straight away like on Tinder).
>>4362370if you have game on tinder then i can imagine you have the looks. there is a weird pleasure in being a virgin too but i don't know
>>4362374Eh, I'm not sure I do. I'm 6 or 7/10 (according to the rating /soc/ gave me) so I'm nothing special. Tinder also delivers jackshit in matches now since they want you to pay for their premium tiers to actually get any.
>>43623767/10 on 4chin is high my guy. vivian maier was also virgin, i can cope/hope/rope with that
>>4362381>vivian maier was also virginVivian Maier also took photos for herself and her friends only yet a jew found her photos and made big bank out of her name
How is instagram currently? Still dead for photographer? i just checked all my follows and seems like 90% stopped posting around 2021/2022. I would imagine that there should be ways again to grow with a much smaller amount of active photographers(?) what do ya think?
>>4363442Reels have made it impossible to grow much without venturing into the vlogging world. Insta's algorithm prioritises reels enormously and also shows them to more non-followers whilst photos are most likely only going to be seen by your friends.Unless you want to sink a lot of your time into becoming a part-time vlogger, the main way to get genuine insta followers is to meet people irl and have them follow you. The classic tactic is to take their portrait and then ask for their insta so you can send them the photo later. It still is a popularity lottery though.
>>4363442Sort of dead and sort of not, there's not really a popular alternative. I like the pictures I take and like to share them, no matter how few people will probably see them.
>>4362397Yeah this is the problem with physical medium unless you remember to arrange things before you die. I will probably have all my negatives burned. Digital files are safe because my drives are encrypted, and they will likely be trashed before quantum computing becomes commonplace.
>>4363442Yea. I went from getting 25 likes to 4 if I'm lucky whilst posting the same mediocre shit.https://www.instagram.com/thomjams/
what a grim thread. makes me want to blow my brains out. we're all fighting for crumbs of shit
>>4363590Went from around 300-400 likes to 5 likes. Same goes with follower. There was a time I got 30-50 follower per day and from one day to the other it stagnated. If I started 1-2 years earlier I probably would have made it and be one of those 100k+ follower influencer. My photos were good, above average but desu I also did some techniques (like bot, etc.).
>>4363442>>4363592>>4363590i get 80 normally, 60 is my low, my best is 280alot of it is to do with algorithmi find if someone comments you will get significantly more reach probably why so many accounts bot their comments
>>4363592>Went from around 300-400 likes to 5 likes.>be one of those 100k+ follower influencer.why?
>>4363590Mister Jams, howdy>4 if I'm luckyI thought you stopped because your posts don't appear to me, only reels
>>4363591Nah, I'm in just to see fellow /p/hotographers, and Instagram is still the best place to see their pics.
What do we think about vindictive lesbian photography instagram? thinking of that bitch emilie hofferber and her lil pervy friend ewa kwiatek
>>4364662Nothing, dude, focus on what you like.
>>4364662>What do we think about>ohh goodie i’m in a group>plz tell me what thoughts to have now.Anyone who utters a sentence beginning with these words deserves to have their useless brain extracted through their nostril with a long pliers.
>>4363493>Reels have made it impossible to grow much without venturing into the vlogging world. Insta's algorithm prioritises reels enormously and also shows them to more non-followers whilst photos are most likely only going to be seen by your friends.Funny how they totally transitioned away from photos and to vlogging just in time for there to be a new wave of zoomer wannabe-influencers rediscovering old digicams that don't even do video.
>>4364662literally whowhy do you care about those cunts
For me the enjoyment is taking dozens of photos, selecting the best one, editing it a bit and then posting it. Finding good photo even amongst a load of old shit is a good feeling, as well as gradually building a portfolio of pics which are hopefully visually appealing.https://www.instagram.com/yarm102/
>>4339181I'm new to IG and I learned that I'm editing my photos completely wrong. It looked fine on my monitor but I realized 99% of people use IG on their phones, and with auto brightness turned on, my photos looked like shit. My posts have a few likes already, I want to fix them and reupload but that would wipe everything.
>>4365948I'm seriously considering making one lately. I wanted to compare a photo I took recently with how the place used to look, and I came across some autismo that goes around my city and documents businesses as they change and he's been at it for almost 20 years. Dude has millions of views and tonnes of followers, while Instagram probably wouldn't give a fuck.
ive been gone for a long timehttps://www.instagram.com/opeopossum/
instagram.com/myrmician/Already follow a bunch of you. Followed a bunch more. Sprinkle in some likes for the restAlways impressed with the level of talent and diversity of subject matter coming out of these threads
>>4343051You know you can set up a border preset in lightroom to apply to all your photos right?
>>4339181I don't really want to post my IG here but check out this weird trend I have. Every month views but never get follows. I don't really care about social media or IG, never hashtag, never like posts, hardly comment on anything and if I do it's some jackass remark.[EXIF data available. >>4369662Everyone is doomscrolling now
>>4369660It's a bit of a hassle compared to Photoshop.
>>4369737But once it's done you can apply to all rather than opening each photo in photoshop.
Started this hobby just a few months and and don’t have a lot of rolls under my belt but I found this MX a couple weeks ago that I’m excited to use. https://www.instagram.com/lifeissdumb/
Most of you are truly talentless. Which is funny considering this board fancies themselves otherwise.

>>4373992I think you're great because you photograph the fronts of peoples heads instead of the backs and you should publish somewhere a little classier than instagram
https://www.instagram.com/ale.capturas_/
>>4339181What's the obvious shit I should do when starting an instagram account?
>>4375578Posting a photo couldn’t hurt
>>4375578fresh account will give you temporary boost of views/likes/follows to hook you up, so if you have empty account with one photo that you created 3 years ago, don't use it, make a new one. Instagram only pushes reels so if you publish photos only and starting just now (you don't have follower base from 'good ol' days') then after initial 'love bombing' you will be buried by algo and will get like 3 likes a week and some follows from bot accounts. Meta is there to make money, indirectly to use your content and directly to make you pay for engagement so if you're not paying for advertising your acc there you will not get much views unless you post rage bait, skin or stupid shit like 'not washing your hair for month daily vlog'. Other shit like 'posting frequently', 'making 6 stories a day', 'using description instead of tags' simply doesn't work. Comments, shares and saves get your stats up, but from genuine users, you will not boost it from the same IP or with 10 accounts created on 1 email address. Boosting companies will with good probability get your account banned, Meta only allows them to advertise on their platforms because well pecunia non olet, but once you start using them you sooner or later will get banned (temporary or perm).TL;DR you have to pay for advertisement if you want to make some non-rookie numbers on your instagram
>>4375499Why did you delete your account, anon?
>>4378337Not him but do you know if editing the caption, like adding hash tags I missed, is negatively impacting my posts?
>>4339181https://www.instagram.com/gran.tourism/Snapshitter, in square no less
>>4382110I don't think adding hashtags is doing anything these days.
>>4382110I used to was like this that edit was putting it back in queue to show, not sure if that's a thing anymore, haven't edit after post in years.>>4382189It is, people are subscribing to tags to see specific content, they also search by hashtag. People also tend not to look at tags so if you put leica on your niggon post there's a chance that you will catch attention of one or more leica fags etc.
>>43821113rd row, 3rd column is pretty nice
>>4373992The photos of the buildings in the last row could use a bit of more negative space at the top; apart from bottom right one of course
>>4369446pretty dreamlike

>>4383500Going for 1 a day desu, but have back log of like 150ish
>>4383456I'd do this but I wouldn't get anywhere near as many likes as before, IG has completely gimped how well photos reach now.
