I kinda got motivated so here comes another history post.

This time I wanted to do it about Martin Parr. For some weird reason I bought one of his signed prints with pocket money when I was 10 years old, so he's always kind of been an influence.

He's also the father of modern Snapshitters in my opinion.
Be ready it'll be a bit of a dump.

Martin Parr, born in 1952 in Surrey, England, is a British documentary photographer and photojournalist. His passion for photography started at a young age, influenced by his grandfather, George Parr, who was also an amateur photographer. Parr studied photography at Manchester Polytechnic, and from the beginning, he showed an interest in documenting everyday life. His keen eye for detail and fascination with the quirks of British society led him to become one of the most important figures in contemporary photography.

Parr’s artistic approach is distinct for its use of bright, saturated colors and an ironic, often humorous view of the world. In a time when documentary photography was dominated by black-and-white imagery, Parr broke the mold by embracing color film to highlight the mundane aspects of life. He captures the trivial, often overlooked details of modern life, offering a fresh and critical perspective on consumerism, class, and culture. His work is playful, but it also challenges viewers to reflect on the absurdities of contemporary society.

Parr’s art delves into the everyday, from British seaside resorts to supermarket shelves, with a focus on consumerism and leisure. His most famous series, The Last Resort (1985), documents working-class families on holiday, blending humor with social critique. In Common Sense (1999), he pushes his exploration of consumer culture further, using garish colors to amplify the ridiculousness of fast food, cheap goods, and human habits. Through his satirical lens, Parr captures both the charm and the excesses of modern life, turning the ordinary into something extraordinary.

In the trash it goes! Every picture gets a 2/10. Sad because these would have been great pictures if taken on an mft camera.

Another fool framer relying on connections, nepotism, and other non-artistic means to push their snapshits into the art world.

Us mft artists never rely on any of that CRAP to launder money or gain fame. We produce pure art with our cameras because we are mft artists.

I don't really care what kind of system he used. If it's fun I like it, simple as.

Love Parrs work. Been to a couple of his exhibitions. I like how he vignettes his shots to flatten out the backgrounds and accentuate his subjects in a lot of his shots.

I like the work of Herzog.

Frequently shot on Kodachrome slide he captures a lot of the life in and around the city. The new juxtaposed with the old.
