Is there any reason to get the XT-4 or is it stuck as the shitty inbetween for the XT-30ii and the XT-5?

XT1 was the beta test IMO but is special in its own way
XT2 was the full feature XT1, last one made in Japan
XT3 added touch screen, production moved to China
XT4 added IBIS and replaced the flip screen with an articulating screen, moved to the new battery
XT5 added a 40MP sensor and went back to the flip screen

There were video and focus capability gains with each generation. They also continue to get slightly larger and in my opinion more cheap feeling. I wouldn't consider any of these cameras out-of-date aside from the XT1. Personally I use an XT2 still because of the superior build quality. I don't care about IBIS, touch, or a 40MP sensor. And I don't use the XTn0 line because they don't have weather sealing or dual card slots.
>>
>>4380941
For a stills only shooter the XT1 is still really nice I got mine when it came out and I’m still using it to this day for my travels. But it’s not remotely usable for hybrid stuff. As you said there is something special about it, and it is a very compact light fully weather proofed camera nice to leave in a bag with a WR lens and take anywhere. Lightroom Denoise ever makes 6400 usable modern raw process has breathed new life into the camera. Gonna pick up an XT2 next for my travels.
>>
>>4380941
I'm holding out for the XT6. I hope it'll have a stacked sensor. Can't be long now until it's announced.

Why do fujifags always shoot crop or point and shoot?

Are fuji full frames shit or something?
>>
>>4380990
Why do you literally post in every thread talking shit about Fuji but literally never showing your own photos.
>>
>>4381000
Legit question, I'm not shitting on Fuji
>>
>>4380990
Fuji only does crop (and medium format which is a whole different market). Other manufacturers treat crop as an entry point or an afterthought. Fuji decided to go all in on crop and offer different types of bodies. They don't have to compete in the full frame nuclear arms race of adding cutting edge features. Fuji definitely has an Apple aspect to them where it's trendy and fashionable and costs nearly as much as full frame for less raw performance and fewer features. I appreciate the size, form factor, build quality, and lens choices. I feel like most manufacturers make a handful of low quality native crop lenses and really expect you to upgrade to full frame lenses (and then upgrade to a full frame camera).
>>
>>4380990
Because they shoot good images, are lightweight and priced low. They're right at the sweet spot of the diminishing returns curve.

Because they mostly shoot things that are boring and safe, ideal for insta clout, easy to pump out daily to keep those followers "engaged", and their idea of a challenge is forcing themselves to use their least favorite lens (out of the half dozen primes they collected "because photographers do that").

The stereotypical canon-sony shooter goes for sports action or event photography if they're normal, dynamic portraiture with hot women whipping their hair around if they're chads, or birds flying around if they're terminally uncool.

EDC culture (fuji) vs craftsmanship culture (professional brands) - it's the difference between the kid feeling special for taking a fountain pen to school, and a calligrapher (in which case the birds in flight fag is a mediocre calligrapher but writes fluent elvish)

You could also view it like bicycles. Canon-sony is commuter E-bikes, fuji is a new production CF fixie and a lot of whining about "cyclists abandoning their principles and funding environmentally harmful and dangerous unregulated motorcycles instead of blocking the highway and demanding lower speed limits and more bike lanes like they should", nikon is like a commuter e-bike that doesn't really work that well, and leica is a new reproduction of a vintage fixie that mostly rides in the back of a BMW crossover.

Photographer stereotypes tend to hold true because photographers who get in to $brand tend to imitate the most visible people on social media using $brand.
>>
>>4380990
fuji's closest thing to a normal camera is almost $10,000, and most of the lenses for it are $1000+

other than the x100vi (roughly a7c sized with a really blurry lens) their cameras aren't really even small..
>>
>>4381021
I shoot full time on 1 XH2 and 1 XH2s moving from Nikon DSLRs it’s my full time job and never had an issue with my Fuji bodies. Are you actually a working pro or just commenting on the industry from outside of it?
>>
>>4380815
>Is there any reason to get the XT-4
No. In fact, no to basically any fujifilm. You're paying a huge premium for less actual camera capability than the second cheapest canon. Some fujislug always says "works for me" but won't ever admit to the poor value, because there's this culture in america and america specifically where people who are clearly not rich spend $1000 and pretend not to care because they think it makes them look successful. In actuality it makes them look like they carry a balance on a credit card.

Bring on the "$400 extra isn't a lot of money" and "poorfag" replies, I see through you. One, if you were financially successful you wouldn't post here, you'd be doing something else. Two, its the same culture that leads people who are literally on food stamps and living in apartments to buy other low tier hood rich shit like apple, supreme, tesla, and cheap gucci. Credit card rich ass.

I only have $140,000 laying around and only make between 80 and 90k post tax each year in a state where my cost of living is half that, and honesty, most cameras are hideously overpriced, either to scam hood rich fucks, scam audiophile dweebs, scam delusional video gearfags, or scam professionals who have no choice but to buy the business approved brand new flagship with warranty and pro services addon, because it's a small market and that's how they keep profits up. Do not buy into mirrorless shit yet. Get a canon 6d and an EF 40mm and just shoot with a good camera. It'll run you $500 total and take better pictures than most of these hyped up mirrorless vlogging cameras.
>>
>>4381024
>I shoot full time on the least typical fuji gear
The autofocus on those might be godawful but since your standards were set on a nikon DSLR it probably feels slick, gotta admit
t. always used canon
>>

Who gives even the slightest of a shit what brand of camera the photo is taken with? If the photo is good, then it's good. You're way overthinking this shit.
>>
>>4381028
anons here tend to forget the whole purpose of photography and that it isn't fagging each other off over what brand is better
>Guys look at the spatula I made this cake with, look at the build quality and features!
>"Uh, do you mind if we just eat the cake? It looks pretty decent"
>No, you have to spend 10 minutes admiring the titanium finish on my whisk and listen to me justify the purchase
>>
>>4381028
10000% this

Pros have been making stunning images for decades. Go back at look at images shot in the mid 2000s on “shit” DSLRs with 8-12 MP and auto focus that is slower than a slug haha

It’s actually the same with almost any hobby/art form the guys at the very top doing it for a living really don’t give a fuck about specs the best illustrator in the world is not going to debate Japanese versus American pens they are going to just draw amazing shit with whatever you put in their hands it’s the Amateurs who do this shit fucking product essays.
>>
>>4381028
The brand is not a mere name, it's tied to a few things that genuinely matter and affect the image like autofocus, framerate, color and detail resolution, etc.

Generally, these are good. I have not had a problem on any reasonably popular camera. In "the day" it was a canon or nikon, now it's a canon or a sony, and as always other brands have been weird.

>>4381033
The mid 2000s "shit" DSLRs had faster and more accurate autofocus than most non-canon non-sony mirrorless, including the majority of fujifilm's products. In fact, the canon 5dIV has better autofocus than about 50% of the sony models in existence.

They also got more color resolution out of 8-20mp bayer than is possible to extract from 24mp xtrans and were more stoutly built than these fashion accessories. It's easy to find a reddit post that says "my brand new fuji x-something died in light rain" "xtsomething bricked during update" "xt-something froze randomly and I had to take the battery out". "Fuji GFX100S IBIS mechanism broke" "Fuji GFX stopped working, wire spontaneously desoldered".

Not so easy to find a similar claim made for a well made DSLR.
>>
>>4381040
You are literally clueless lol I’ve shot a 5D classic, 6D, 5D iii Nikon D850 and a D5 for work

Fuji X100f, XT1 for fun

And then XH2 and XH2s

My Fuji XT1 has better auto focus than my Canon 5D classic and 6D 1000000%

Ask anyone who actually worked with these tools and you will hear the same thing
>>

Calling bullshit or skill issue-itis. It has an attempt at subject detect but nothing beats the speed and accuracy in a DSLR's OVF.

It's the same in the music world, which is my main thing. People will endlessly argue over what piece of gear or brand is best, while pro players will make anything sound good.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying a quality piece of gear doesn't help, but all the 4chan lingo about what brands suck and all that is just so fucking tiresome. I have a feeling it's the same couple of mentally ill guys who just do nothing but copy/paste shit all day. Endlessly arguing for the sake of it no matter the topic.

>>4381040
Brands only make a difference from a subjective point. Any pro photographer can take good images with any of the big brands. Some brands do a things a little differently, but that's about it. It's all about what you think feels best in your hands when you use it. You could take great photos with whatever brand and camera, like people already have. You just pick gear that fits well in your hands and workflow.
>>
>>4381059
It really depends in a studio environment I’m very happy using the 16-55 2.8 for 80% of my work for on location stuff I have a 16,23,35 1.4 a 56 1.2 and then my old Canon 85 my 1.2 that’s acting like a 125 f2. And then for events/weddings I’m actually using the sigma 18-35 1.8 adapted on 1 body and whatever else is needed on the second body sometimes 90mm F2 sometimes 50MM F2 (the f2 50mm is much much faster than the 56mm 1.2 in auto focus)

I could for sure just get by with a Canon and a 28-70 F2 what I like about this system is I am always carrying exactly what I need without any extra weight. When I shot the 5D iii and the 24-70 after 5-6 hours it gets a little uncomfortable I also sometimes have to shoot in remote locations and carrying lights so saving a few KG on lenses can be huge.
>>
>>4381059
what paid work is f2.8 not enough?
>>
>>4381071
Maybe if you have a larger sensor

But I can't image shooting something like a first dance under low light with a f2.8 on crop

I’m currently on a small Island north of Scotland the only way to get here is by boat it rains almost every day and sometimes the winds are 85MPH. I’ve been sent here to shoot a book cover by a writer who grew up on this island and wants one of its landscapes as his cover. Been here since the 10th of October and leave tomorrow I’ve shot almost every day rain or not with my XH2 and my WR lenses. I honestly think you and all the other people making this posts are paid Chinese or Indian shills lol.

>what is copy variation
Fuji has high copy variation since offshoring production. Some cameras are so bad that reviewers peered past gfx control wheels and saw the circuitry. Some are built like they would have been in japan.

I wouldnt gamble two fucking thousand dollars on it when canon sells for about the same price, with better everything.
>>
>>4381076
>sub-sony
See again, people take great photos with both sony and fuji cameras, it's just a matter of what you prefer in your hands and workflow.
It is subjective, even if some things do seem to have a general consensus, like Sony having great auto focus and Fuji and Canon having good colours.
People take shitty and blurry photos with poor colours on Sony too, just like some people take great photos with them. It's the same with Fuji or whatever brand.
Like you could hand a custom shop Gibson guitar to beginner and he would make it sound like shit because he doesn't know how to use it properly. A pro can make a cheap ass Squier sound great. Same shit with cameras.
All that brand tribalism is complete bullshit

R6ii: $2k
Xh2: $2k

>>4381099
The r5 is higher resolution, of course its more expensive. 40mp xtrans is about the same as 24mp bayer is about the same as 16mp foveon.

Sure, if that's what you'd like. They cost premium money nowadays so pick carefully. If you don't need the lenses the system has to offer I'd look into mft or sony aps-c lineups. I guess the nikon's aren't that bad either.

I shoot fujifilm, because I enjoy the older optics. The "soft" ones. Yes, it's for portrait work and no I can not post them. So here's a duck I saw the other day.

Where did you do the maths to conclude that? I’m not seeing much a difference between my old Nikon D850 and my current XH2 it’s also not just about megapixels the XH2 is doing all sorts of stuff the R6 can’t. Even a XT1 from 2013 has better shadow recovery than the current Canons id say that’s a bigger deal for most people. Until you post a source I’m going to assume “xtrans is half the resolution” is a shill lie I certainly can’t see it.

With the Fuji you’re getting Nikon Sony like dynamic range and recovery and Canon like colours it’s lovely
>>
>>4381109

>>
>>4381114
>a1
>bsi stacked sports camera in eshutter mode
That’s aps-c dynamic range but the resolution difference is still obvious. Xtrans uses rougher sampling to prevent moire. All moire prevention besides crazy high resolution is resolution loss. Fuji will basically tell you this in a denser marketing babble form.
Check the a7riii or z7ii for actual DR comparisons. The a1 is a specialist camera.
>>
>>4381120
I don’t care about the Sony I was comparing the Fuji to the Canon in this image read my post again
>>
>>4381106
Yes and my point about the price was "the camera you actually want" is the R5 or R5mkii, which is way more expensive.
It's all personal preference, but if I bought the R6 myself I'd always think "it's not the R5" when I used it. I wouldn't think about that with the higher end Fuji stuff.
>>
>>4381120
I can certainly agree with you that there is a small drop in resolution because of the way the sensor is made, but there is absolutely no way it’s 50%. And out of the big four brands everyone says the way Fuji handles colour noise is the best I’m happy to take a small drop in resolution to have noise that is objectively more film like. Canons looks like a total mess it’s the reason I sold my 5D iii and to this day it’s still not been fixed.

The canon in that comparison is also a low DR camera. A 20mp low DR camera.
Dont you see how the 25mp mft g9ii looks the same? Its an apsc dr mft.

Fuji 40mp is about as good as 24mp-ish resolution and has the same dynamic range as other apsc cameras. Simple as. That image was made to be confusing because the OP was shilling panasonic.

Fuji doesnt handle color noise at a hardware level, the on camera jpeg converter has a preconfigured high level of chroma NR and this is reflected in adobe/p1 .RAF support. Darktable and rawtherapee are independent so you can process fuji files normally where they look pretty much the same as their technically comparable correspondents. Marketing at work. The xtrans look is the same detail as fewer bayer MP but upscaled a bit - and the way xtrans develops moire is similar enough to color noise (dots and spots) for standard chroma NR to mostly wipe it out. That’s fuji’s actual secret.

Better than brands that have a preconfigured low level of chroma NR? It depends on your use case. We should be able to change luma and chroma NR separately on camera along with standard amount/radius/threshold sharpening controls on every camera and choose our look, and even do so per ISO range. But we don’t (i think pentax did once), so adobe/p1 keep selling subscription software.

I did the work, even with some of the shows being under pretty dim lighting, and got paid well for it.
Don’t obsess about gear, it’s all about how you use it.
