>bro just LEARN to finish the developers job for him! Do everything that paid programs already have already done better!
Thats what linux users say, but putting in effort doesnt excuse the software being substandard and consistently putting out substandard results. Almost like your “heckin RTFM” isnt a substitute for a paid professional solving problems at the source. Free software devs are just the ones that are too antisocial and incompetent to hold down a job serving other peoples wants and needs instead of their meaningless and entitled “philosophy” about how all software must conform to the emotional requirements of self centered autistic manchildren who rage when they cant customize the close-window button or write a script for moving the saturation slider via CLI.

Anyone who defends linux tier shit is cancer. You are not a smart computer wizard. Take it from someone who knows enough C to contribute to your operating system sized “kernel”. You are a fool using substandard shit and getting substandard results. Its free for a reason. “If you would only learn” is a defense for things that reward you for learning relevant skills, not for things that deliver mediocrity if you learn to make up for an unpaid autist totally missing the mark. Darktable offers you multiple demosaicing algorithms but not one short route to producing something half as good as c1 defaults. For most newer cameras, you can not even hope to achieve c1 defaults without several weeks of labor and hundreds of dollars in rented color meters, illuminants, and calibration targets. That’s the power of choice brought to you by free software and the GNU manifesto.

Capture one = phocus > adobe lol > any “free” software

Some people enjoy wasting time on irrelevant and dated versions of operator skills because its a substitute for the more relevant milestones they have failed to achieve in life. Normally losing their virginity, making friends, and getting a career they love.

They always claim to be smarter or somehow better than average for engaging in a menial task that was once learned by teenagers, as if everyone else is too dumb for it, and not just living a life with better things to do. It’s a total inversion of the reality where they are too dumb to get laid and everyone else figured it out easily.

I shudder to imagine the kind of person who insists he’s smart and hard working for installing linux and trying to milk pleasant colors out of dorktable.

Dear Darktable Users,

There's not a difference, at all, between a leica fanboy and you. The same way people buyeica not because of what it offers as a camera but the social status that it brings with it, you use darktable because you want to feel unique and different; intellectually superior. You read darktables documentation instead of accomplishing the same work faster in lightroom because you want to feel that superiority, that feeling that you are wiser about technology than others. Just like the leica man shoots manual to feel like he accomplished more than pressing a button. That's simply the truth - there's not an actual benefit from using darktable other than feeling better about yourself.

Jesus fucking christ how hard is it to do the most basic raw to jpeg conversion? It's not a good photo to begin with. Just accept it as a snapshot and move on. 99% of heavy edits beyond fixing white balance and exposure compensation/highlight protection are retouching skin or adding a tint to the shadows. Get it right in camera.

>+6EV on the shadows to de-emphasize the only focal point in the frame?
Visual illiterates. I even left half of the vignetting in. Maybe that was a bad idea. Snapshits don't get kitschy effects, just correction. Then their spirit comes through.

There is no focal point. The photo has zero content. It is flatly lit. It is flatly shot. It's bad. If you want to edit in a ray of light to emphasize a sign and some walked on grass, photograph one to begin with. You should have shot wider. You should have shot lower. In that case maybe some toning in B&W could salvage it. But this photo as you shot it is really bad.

>Yes, white balance is a creative tool not something to "correct"
Now, I finally see why darktable users photos always look like shit. Yes, it's a poorly made program cluttered with crap you dont need and half finished ideas that went nowhere. If you put a shitton of effort into sorting out the mess, properly profiling your camera (and making lens distortion profiles, and, and, and...) you can get ok and even good results from raw conversion only, and any serious editing needs to be done on a 16 bit tiff in another program. But the other half of the problem is the users are clueless and tasteless.

Generally you want to be shooting only in JPG. Don't shoot in raw. Raw is a waste of time and space and doesn't look any better than JPG.

Your photo was looking a bit dull there pal. Try setting your Picture Control to Vivid and add +3 to saturation for bright, snappy colours. If you're using Sony, good luck finding it in the menus! I added just a touch of saturation and clarity to the image to give it a bit more punch.

Half of all these posted photos are edited so much that at this point you didn't need to leave your room, you could have stayed home and used an AI image generator to create the image you took.
>>
One of the issues this RAW has is that the sky is so washed out, and there's very little interesting going on that editing it becomes really a matter of just cleaning it up. I mean, the sign, which I guess would be your subject, isn't even in focus. As >>4382347 demonstrated, your best bet is it add some creative spin on it instead of trying to make it appear natural.

It's a snapshit for all intents and purposes, which is fine, but to demonstrate RAW editing you'd need a better example.

Fuck darktable, use lightroom or some better software and just mess around with sliders or try presets to get the initial look that's close to what you want and then tweak it further. Also just look at what the presets actually changed to get that specific outcome in combination with what you shot and try to learn form that.

Post wasn't about the quality of the photo. Was hoping it'd spark discussion about different editing preferences we all have, but that's obviously pointless here from how the rest of the thread went.
>>
>>4382887
Trying to do that from a garbage photo is like trying to spur a cooking discussion with rat meat and overgrown bitter broccoli
>>

You need to explain what effect you want to achieve if you want interesting replies.
>>
>>4382888
not at all, even if you're polishing a turd, there can still be discussion about the polishing itself
if you are simply uncapable of mentally separating out the processing from the image itself, not sure anyone can help
since the photo was garbage, how about you post a good one so we can edit that one instead
>>4382892
i did
>curious which presets you all prefer
long time ago we used to have actual editing threads with actual insights and actual discussion
posting a collage of possible edits for everyone to look and discuss and see which things people prefer, is 100x more interesting to me than everyone just doing their own and offering nothing positive of value
