There is no focal point.The photo has zero content. It is flatly lit. It is flatly shot. It's bad. If you want to edit in a ray of light to emphasize a sign and some walked on grass, photograph one to begin with. You should have shot wider. You should have shot lower. In that case maybe some toning in B&W could salvage it. But this photo as you shot it is really bad.

Now, I finally see why darktable users photos always look like shit. Yes, it's a poorly made program cluttered with crap you dont need and half finished ideas that went nowhere. If you put a shitton of effort into sorting out the mess, properly profiling your camera (and making lens distortion profiles, and, and, and...) you can get ok and even good results from raw conversion only, and any serious editing needs to be done on a 16 bit tiff in another program. But the other half of the problem is the users are clueless and tasteless.

Generally you want to be shooting only in JPG. Don't shoot in raw. Raw is a waste of time and space and doesn't look any better than JPG.

Your photo was looking a bit dull there pal. Try setting your Picture Control to Vivid and add +3 to saturation for bright, snappy colours. If you're using Sony, good luck finding it in the menus! I added just a touch of saturation and clarity to the image to give it a bit more punch.

Half of all these posted photos are edited so much that at this point you didn't need to leave your room, you could have stayed home and used an AI image generator to create the image you took.

One of the issues this RAW has is that the sky is so washed out, and there's very little interesting going on that editing it becomes really a matter of just cleaning it up. I mean, the sign, which I guess would be your subject, isn't even in focus. As >>4382347 demonstrated, your best bet is it add some creative spin on it instead of trying to make it appear natural.

It's a snapshit for all intents and purposes, which is fine, but to demonstrate RAW editing you'd need a better example.

Fuck darktable, use lightroom or some better software and just mess around with sliders or try presets to get the initial look that's close to what you want and then tweak it further. Also just look at what the presets actually changed to get that specific outcome in combination with what you shot and try to learn form that.

Not him but I tried the demo and rotating photos was extremely laggy, it was basically impossible to do fine adjustments. It was awful. UI was pretty lackluster too.
