Hows the fashion photography going /p?
You are still doing it right, this thread is to discuss fashion photography.
>>
>>4385594
I find women repulsive
>>
>>4385598

99% of all fashion photography is of women, they are like the market. Guys dont care, they just buy anything.
>>
terrible, not going at all. i have no ideas
>>
>>4385598
that will give you advantage in fashion photography over coomers distracted by sideboob
>>
>>4385606

thats what pinterest is for, you can just endlessly doomscroll for ideas and its full of fashion images.
>>
i immediately recognized the one on the left, should l be worried?
>>
>>4385870
pinterest seems too locked into a utilitarian format. i mainly scroll tumblr

how does one use fashion photog to get 18 year old pussy
>>

if you aren't getting pussy without photography, you won't get any with it

I know puppet theatre for kids actresses who were sleeping with owner to get better roles. In fucking puppet theatre for kids. If you play your cards right you can get tons of meat tacos delivered.
But, girls aren't that stupid, they only put out when there's a benefit for them from it. Just making pictures which they can get for free from thousands of 'amateur photographers wanting to be pro' will not get you any. If you have connections, you talk with 'the people' on the shows etc. that's the thing they look for.
Also check the age, film everything, use condom and dispose it safely.

You need to ideally position the model in several poses like the SSENSE models who just appear to change clothes while serving the same face and model position

I had 6 shoots lined up this week and all but one dipped on me last minute, and she's not going to do the style in the water that I wanted.

I'm probably just going to hang it up and give up on people altogether, people are flakes and always find a reason to back out.
>>
>>4388019
That's why sometimes in some fields the same people are involved in shit loads of projects, those are the only ones that do not back down or the ones who always show on time.

similar experience here, even with close friends that want to try modelling. nothing intimidating, just an excuse for them to dress up in clothes they already own and get some nice photos in a professional setting.

book hotel room / fix up my home studio, line up HMUA, sort out some light snacks, buy props, build and set up the set, then get cancelled/ghosted at the last minute with an extremely weak excuse.
and the shoot was THEIR IDEA, which is the most infuriating part.
now a few years on, they've all had kids and are whining they never got the chance to shoot with me pre-baby. i laugh my ass off at that each time.

Now I typically pay models which usually gets better reliability, but when they start asking $300-$350 for a 2 hour, non-commercial, non-nude shoot when they have next to zero modelling experience. it's basically a bullshit 'pay me because i'm pretty' fee.

I'm squarely blaming onlyfans for this one. you can be a 3/10, and if you flash your ham wallet in a cheap halloween costume in a poorly lit room, a gaggle of fucking simps will pay you $1000 a month for it.
>>
anyone switched to LEDs for studio work? looking at buildng a lightweight kit, and i'm either going all-in on ad200s or switching to LEDs and constant light

I genuinely want to do a decent photoshoot with my mates and all our partners; make a day of it you know?
Now the problem is, I couldn't corral six of us together even if there was a paid incentive: time slots just do not line up. Shit sucks but sometimes reality is just difficult.
Entirely different discussion if we're speaking about professional contacts, but that's why you ask for a non refundable deposit at the project outset.

like him or hate him but felix kunze has a pretty good series going on where he hosts a halloween party each year and just sets up a studio in the corner. might be an idea to try something like that.

Alternatively, i've been meaning to build an all-in-one photobooth for parties, cheezy, but they can be fun (just don't leave the kids alone too long on it, kills the vibe and eats up all your print consumables in record time)
>>
>>4388071

Last one dipped on me.

I should just give up, no one wants to work with me I have a good port and a decent amount of work up to about 2019 and then OF happened and COVID happened and that's the end of it.

Mountains don't cancel and streams don't have to find babysitters.

Funny that you say that. I organised one for this tuesday. Got a free studio, some male and female models and a make up artist. Never done fashion before but I'm doing it for shits n giggles.

where do you guys find models these days? modelmayhem is a ghost town, facebook pages aren't that active anymore, IG gimped their hashtag searches. kinda hoping bluesky takes up the mantle of somewhere to go, but so far i'm struggling
>>
>>4388880

You have to use Instagram but it’s really painful. Find photogs or models in your area then go through everyone they follow. Slowly you will stumble on models.
The reality is you would never find them in your feed or search page, you have to go full stalker mode. And yes it takes ages.
>>
>>4388899
How about getting non-model 18 year olds for a shoot?
>>
>>4389902

same process but you would have to somehow just find everyday girls in your area then go through everybody they follow.
Maybe if you search bars or events or stuff that will locate girls by you then go through everyone they follow, then everyone the people they follow follow etc etc.
Follow and message alot and see if any are interested.
You would want a half decent portfolio on your page though to get much success.

It depends on what you're shooting for. is it catalog work, campaign work, ect?

>>
I'm just going to hang it up and quit people, I'm >>4388187 it isn't worth it anymore. People don't show up, wasted my whole vacation and I spent all this money to rent a nice hotel and a nice shooting location and only one person showed up and it was a 30 minute mini shoot.

I don't want to do all the social media bullshit and I'm not paying people I paid two of these people who dipped on me to show and they ghosted me.
>>
How do I convince people to do Boudoir?
>>
>>4391296

... you paid them before?
Lmfao hey anon I'll model for you just venmo me $300 and I'll show for sure. I'm not like those other models you see.
>>
>>4389902
search instagram map for places in your area where girls like to take photos of themselves, then go to their profiles and bullshit them
>>
>>4391296
yeaaah.. get that money back, fuck flakes

also, NEVER pre-pay in full. if they're a professional with an extensive port, sure, pay their booking fee, but only on a reversible transaction. they want that money, make THEM jump through hoops to get it

This girl texted me through instagram to ask me if I do collabs, I ask what she has in mind and she sends this (picrel).
I have never done this type of session and am just a hobbyist. Should I accept but on condition that she pays the film rolls?
>>
>>4392534
in theory, in regular time for photos deal you both gain something (expanding your photographer/model portfolios or pics to post on social media) so costs of props/film would make sense to get split. you might as well try to bargain but I doubt it would work honestly
also if it's your first time and at least acceptable results are not guaranteed I wouldn't put in any money into it or make someone pay for it, just to avoid any bullshit later. unless you literally only own film gear shoot digital
>>
>>4392534
nah. if you haven't got an established look, just do a collab where you're credited (worked with some models where this wasn't clear, like some mystery photographer took the photos of them)

like >>4392586 said, shoot digital if you can, but i guess try a roll of film or two for the poses/setups you particularly like. wouldn't charge yet anyway

once you've got a few of these shoots under your belt, you can probably start charging
>>
>>4391381
not sure if shitpost, but...
1. prove you can get the shots THEY would like. do a couple of 'normal' shoots with them before asking them to go one step further.
2. be sincere
3. don't be a creep
4. be patient in their response and don't push too hard. make the offer, and if they're receptive, show them a moodboard. basically THEY are client/boss, you're just guiding them.

Worked for 90% of the female friends i've shot with.

3 lights at least.
Also how in the fuck do you get that reverse gradiant on the background of that 1st pic?
Its a shadow in the middle going out to bright light at the edges. I know you could do in post but im sure these guys would just do it with the lights. I kind of like it.
>>
>>4392756

also you need 70-200, and really good knowledge of how far to put these models from the background of the cyc wall.
I would not be touching this with film, you need to get in like 2 hours before the model and get these all setup and figured out so you are ready to go.
You would want to chimp them on digital and see the setups working.
But again, their is just zero chance you pull this off first go.
If you can hire the studio for a day without the model or with a friend/another photographer and figure this stuff out first. There are tons of guides on light setups on pinterest.
>>
>>4392746
lol nailed it. ur probably in some flyover right? white dude and only shoot white or asian chicks? yea we know ur type. pathetic

>>4392761

kek sure. Maybe the top 2 pictures of the moodboard.
The other 4 you need a big studio, cyc wall and then why the fuck would you use video lights over strobes.
Strobes can pump out 20 times as much light.

Their are a million bts and setup photos on pinterest. This is the level that moodboard is at.

>>4392762

And some more. If i could travel back in time 10 years I would go back and just learn this stuff.
It looks hard at first but a few weeks of really all out learning and you could learn alot of this stuff.
Its just distance and angle of the lights and how far you put the model from the cyc wall.
>>
>>4392763

Also I like how these bts show just how far back the photographer stands and how much you need the zoom of the 70-200.
>>

Yeah I mean I don’t even know this woman and she wrote me because she liked the photos I did for a mock fashion shooting (posted in the film general).
I can find a studio for free and recreation that look with 3-4 lights is doable. But I only shoot film for now. This sounds like a hassle more than anything to make a shallow girl feel like a model (she cute but definitely not a model)
>>4392759
It seems more difficult to set up than it really is. The only part is im not sure I want to buy 2 film rolls and rent a photo studio for one woman’s ego. I’m not even into this type of photos (unless it’s that really edgy bondage stuff like Nobuyoshi Araki does)
>>
>>4392760
such an america-centric view (had to look up wtf a 'flyover' was), also 110% wrong on all counts, which (to me) is fucking hilarious.

now you.. guessing, slightly overweight, shoots vanilla street photos 95% of the time, did a studio workshop at some point, might have been locally famous and had something published in a local zine or small business pamphlet, has the 'basic bitch' photobooks by TR and moriyama as the trophies of his collection for some reason, spend more time obsessing over gear than planning/booking the next gig

either way, kinda bored. post something from your port to prove your superiour e-peen++ to keep this going
>>
>>4392770
sounds like you've got a sweet deal if you get studio and gear time for free, most people would kill for that.
but unless you're already wanting to burn some film on this person, which you seem fairly 'eh' over, maybe just gently drop it for now.

also if you're only using 2 rolls (guessing 35mm).. damn. you're either extremely focussed on the shots you want, or kinda skint (at which point, yeah get them to cover some of the cost) haha
>>
>>4392770
alright then answer this question: do you actually want to do the shoot? be honest if you're not interested or just making excuses not to try it
if no, why the fuck are you even holding that thought? you might reply to her
if yes, as >>4392759 said borrow/rent a digital camera to chimp the light setup, switch to film once you have it going well to save the cost and inform the model about expected film costs
>>
>>4392790
*you might reply to her that you're not interested or highball offer about the film costs lol
>>
>>4392791

also shes going to flake so book 2 models so you have one as a backup.
>>
>>4392714

It will instantly give me away as a trip here, I've just decided to forget about it and focus on what I'm good at.

I tried to reschedule with one of these girls and they went on a whole 3deep5me tirade about how I'm not shit and just doing it for clout and my camera hobby is stupid.

I've told myself if this time was a fail and more than half of the people cancelled on me I've give it up completely. I think a lot of it has to do with OF and COVID killing off physical in-person interactions and the market now is just absolutely hyper-saturated with "guy with a camera" types.
>>
>>4392801
>the market now is just absolutely hyper-saturated with "guy with a camera" types

always has been, try and dig up some 90s photography mags and check out the critique section, it's the exact same thing in there, so it's certainly not a new problem. Just focus on quality and setting yourself apart somehow.

and yeah, since the coof, things have almost ground to a halt. The old guard have 'aged out' or moved to OF with varying degrees of success and the young chasers are either skipping the middleman for a bigger payout or are posting direct to IG. Can't blame them honestly, especially with algo's that promote low quality, high quantity posting.

On the flipside, It's hard to even track down solid photographers to follow these days. I literally haven't found any new ones i've liked the work of in years, still following the same people who are still active, but are now re-editing old work, or dipping their toe into AI prompting (which is a WHOOOOLE other conversation).

It's just the overall change in landscape, it happens. All we can do is find a new client base or a new niche
>>
>>4392790
I told her I’d hit her up next year when I’ll organise another shoot
Good advice tho, I’ll still charge her the film rolls kek
