I haven’t used reddit in years, but I imagine the main difference is that you’ll get honest feedback here. Anons will tell you if you take shitty pictures. Redditors will, more than likely, sugarcoat the criticism, blow smoke up your ass, or just downvote/ignore without any meaningful discussion. As shitty as the chan is these days, at the very least you can be somewhat confident that the people posting on the slower boards are real people with real experiences and opinions and not bots. I have never used discord and I never will, that shit’s gay as fuck. Pic unrelated.

Checked and kek’d. This is what I’m talking about. For the record, I actually took real pictures of this scene on a real camera, this was taken so I could show friends and family what the campsite looked like before I got the film scans. The lens was clean, that’s smoke from a fire behind me. At least I’m actually posting photos. I’m sure yours are much better though.

This. It's that word that encapsulates it. "Snoy". /p/ has all these absolutely hysterical gear faggots spamming brand war memes that broder on nonsense and it's driven most of the actual photo posters away except for
>fe2fucker
Brandfag gear faggot and awful photographer
>sugar
Brandfag gear faggot and awful photographer

And the film and digishit threads, the former of which is absolutely infested by dog fuckers and the latter of which is mostly underage and trans.

On reddit this shit would have been nipped in the bud before you could say cannot POS R and every involved poster would have received months long bans. In fact, that's EXACTLY why redditors drag their inferior "culture" and preferences here! They're just here because reddit banned them, and 4chan can't ban anyone with a triple digit IQ and dedication.

kinda unfair towards fe2, he actually has some pretty good photos
>>
>>4388809
He had a few ok ones and the he spent $2k on leica and embraced being a living joke. The good photo flow stopped sometime before the leica faggotry.
Like he wasnt improving as a serious photographer so he just bought a toy camera and instead of giving up normally and turning into a vacation snapping boomer, actively started trying not to take good photos, as a cope. Perhaps its depression manifesting as self destructive retail therapy. Doom spending? Ive seen it in photographers before where they dump their good kit and buy micro four thirds or a leica or g9x or something as a symbolic quitting act, a shoddy cathartic change, a purchased excuse. Once they stop being as depressed they usually go back to their usual camera (or quit photography entirely).

Amazing how gear fagging just kills some people. They dig their own ruts.
>>
>>4388803
>why are women in a masculine hobby (gear fagging) ugly?
Because ugly women are excessively masculine and that masculinization goes down to the brain. See many svelte 11/10 wasp waisted fertility goddesses doing serious carpentry and talking about chisel steel? No only block headed babushkas. All the hot photography girls are non gearfags who may know their way around a camera but start audibly groaning when some troll like micro four nerds starts babbling about equivalence and bringing up p2p charts, starting an argument with a man or another uggo.

You will also find most gearfag men are a bit ugly because its aspergers.

behold, king of gear

this guy is so off track his photos actually suffer because he has autistic wants to use certain gear first and comes up with the photos second. hes always fucking up because hes not familiar with any one camera. once he could only bring one camera and his favorite lens (of course, a fuckhuge ultra sharp fast prime) and thought his photography was starting to get better… and the next thing from the trailer of sugar was news of another gear acquisition.

sad.

I had a continuous Sugar thread for like 4 years and was published twice in the /p/ book, sit down clown.

For the record I am posting from my brand new (to me) Xeon-powered editing machine I just bought yesterday and haven't loaded or migrated any software over to yet.

>>4388820

Brandfagging, I know most of my photos suck I'm just trying to find my genre and I think I found it with underwater stuff. I just need to get out a little more. I did shoot a couple days ago in Ginnie Springs and got some very good stuff I still have to load all my editing stuff onto this machine.

If you can find me a good condition D4 under 50k exposures for 399 I'll take back everything I said. I paid 700 for mine with 34k clicks.

I actually visited Robert's in person a month ago and saw that exact lens, it's been through hell and high water and there's a reason it costs that much. I was looking for a beat up 70-200 VR1 to grab the hood collar mount from and they brought it out and I walked away from it, I did grab some film from them though. If you ever get the chance to go to Indy stop by they have a lot of cool shit inside they don't list on their ebay store. They have a battery bin, a filter bin, camera bag bin, strap bin they got some cool stuff, give them a visit.

>show me the power

This is a bait thread, but I'll answer honestly.
Redditors are either midwits or bad photographers, /p/ users are either the worst photographers you've ever seen, or some of the best.
People here genuinely care about photogaphy, despite the immense amount of gear threads.
Redditors care about getting approval for their choice of brand.
I'll say that I think /p/ is the best photographic online community I've been in, as it hits the sweet spot of enough talented people, while not being filled with boomers, and not withholding criticism out of politeness.
>>
>>4388837

AF supremacy. I can't believe how ridiculous the AF is on the D4 it will find shit in a completely pitch black room, it actually tracks moving stuff unlike the 800 and it's insanely fast. Low light performance is excellent. 10 fps was nice doing hair flips in the springs a couple days ago.

I own both they are both good, I like the 800 for landscapes and anything I want the extra real estate for and the D4 for sports and shit that moves.

>>4388844

>>4388842

I'll be real, not trolling, I do need to take 4x5 seriously I have a decent set of kit with Nikkor and Schneider lenses and I just don't think I'm good enough for it yet

>>4388857
>I can't believe how ridiculous the AF is on the D4 it will find shit in a completely pitch black room, it actually tracks moving stuff unlike the 800 and it's insanely fas
There is no meaningful difference in autofocus speed or accuracy. What makes you believe this?

>Low light performance is excellent.
No, it isn't. Not on the D800 or the D4. Noise is very noticeable from ISO 800 and up.

>10 fps was nice
Sure. That is significantly faster than the D800's 4 FPS.

>I want the extra real estate for and the D4 for sports and shit that moves
I mean, it's fast, but at 16MP...
What's even the point of an excellent lens like the 70-200mm VR2 on 16MP?
Also, if you're going for speed, the modern mirrorless systems are just ridiculously incomparable. Like 200 FPS incomparable.
I feel like the D4 (and D5, D6) filled a niche that simply doesn't exist anymore. There's no real reason to get one in this day and age.
>>
>>4388824
Is there a way to fin those /p/books somewhere?
>>
>>4388859
nvm I found them all a part from the 2nd
>>
I will say from my time on discord servers and subreddits is that everyone on them are so vapid and superficial, they desperately try to fit into a clique and often gatekeep new users. Whenever I posted photos there, I'd be lucky to get any feedback, and what I did get just felt hollow. When I switched over to here, I got a lot more, and the critisms and advice I got was not only of higher value, but that is also it came from the heart. When you remove any trace of identity, people have nothing to gain or lose. Though you may get people who act completely insane or troll, you also get people who are more honest without any fear of repercussions or anyone to impress, which is why with all of its downsides, I will still post on /p/
>>
Reddit photography is dry and sterile commercial style photography board, its just how to make money from photography. That is their goal and thats what they all stick to.

/p/ is the underground, just people literally photographing anything who dont care at all about the mainstream concepts of photography or marketing. If you are not solely only trying to make money or impress people, suddenly you have an entire world of things to photograph and can end up with pretty much anything. That being said, you also end up with tons of garbage here too as people dont care so just go and walk around the block and photograph any nonsense they see like the corner of a building or some rocks and leaves.

I prefer /p/ since its far more creative and unexpected. I also dont care about making money from photography as I already have a job for money and photography is something I do for fun only.

>>
>>4388934
It literally doesn't matter, just buy whatever the first camera is that you find for cheap, anything past 2005 and full frame is fine. There's plenty of shit that isn't full frame that works great too, but I finder newer than 05 and full frame basically guarantees that if you can't take good stills with the system, it's your fault.

>>4388748
propensity to call others niggers and faggots. not much more. oh, and critique you get here is honest.
>>
>>4388947
Having no permanent points scoring system or unique identifiers makes feedback honest. There's no repercussions for being blunt, and honestly that's the best part. As long as people aren't just being cunts for the sake of it, I'd rather hear my shit is whack and learn how to fix it. Provided the people critiquing it actually have valid input.
