Just got paid today & looking to buy a new camera. Quick, do I buy a open-box/low shutter D850 or a Canon R5 for around mid-$2k?

To add some context, my father just bought 2 RF lenses (28-70 F2 chode & 85 mm 1.2) to pair with his new R5 MKII alongside his very old 5D MK II lenses (70-200 L I & 17-35MM 2.8 I think and 24-75 L or something).

I don't want to get his hand me down 5d II and would rather purchase either my own Nikon D850 open box with some cheap lenses or a hannukah B&H special R5 for $2699 + the battery grip pack ($349 free).
I would like to get the Nikon D850 but I dont have the funds to buy newer Nikon lenses, also with the Canon I can continue using my fathers really sharp and really amazing lenses albeit not what I am necessarily going to use to shoot.

So /p/ if you had $2k lying around and were in my position, would you get the D850 or an R5?
>>
>>4390443
With the R5 you don’t have to af fine tune every lens for max sharpness so there’s that
>>
Sony a7iv
>>
>>4390453
>snoy
Fuck off with that trash
>>
>>4390454
>nooo i wont buy the best camera with the best lenses
Actually that’s the a7cr shit
a7iv is third or fourth
>>
>>4390443
>hannukah
I think you should kill yourself Dilbert
>>
>>4390456
It's B&H have you never browsed their site even once? Idiot.
>>
You don't buy a dslrosaur in 2024.
>>
>>4390443
I'd take the 5D MK II and invest the money. It lags a bit in low light situations, but otherwise it's perfectly serviceable stills camera. Unless I had a specific reason why that wasn't enough, which you had not given us. No, "I don't want hand-me-downs" does not count.
>>
>>4390443
Take your consumer faggotry somewhere else you pleb.
>>
>>4390495
>write an essay format response explaining why you deserve more than a noisy lowres blob. Not liking it doesnt count.
"Photographers" are killing their own hobby with this gear faggot autism.
>>
>>4390505
No. 4channers are killing hobbies for other people. On all hobby boards.
>Get good grades, practice daily, and keep your room clean and THEN you can ASK if you can use something that costs more than $250, you fucking consoomer redditor! HOW DARE YOU consider spending precious shekels “just because” on a non appreciating asset! Reddit numale!
>>
>>4390506
bbbut redditors have nice things so we cant
>>
>>4390505
>>So /p/ if you had $2k lying around and were in my position, would you get the D850 or an R5?
I just answered his question, you don't need to get mad about it. The 5D2 can do 12x18@300dpi, which is enough for me. I'm certainly not against spending more if I have a reason for it, but OP himself said that he's considering D850 even though he wouldn't have much money left for lenses, and he's considering canon MILC but Nikon DLSR. That alone indicates that he probably doesn't really know what he wants and why.
>>
>>4390443
don't be a whiny bitch, take the old dslr and go out shoot
if it lacks a deal breaking feature and you must get new gear, stay in canon system. you will regret not being able to borrow glass when you need the telephoto for that one time and renting is bothersome. if batteries, flash systems or other random junk is compatible even better. the 5dmk2 body is still good to have as a backup in worst case fail scenario.

also buy used retard
>>
I'd just get a Spotmatic & 50 lens and spend the rest on film
>>
>>4390510
>nooo you need to settle for the noisy low res bayer blob because "its enough"
Its lower resolution than 35mm film (requires 5div to match)
>>
>>4390443
Sony a7c and 20-70 f4 G
~$2k used
>>
>>4390455
Quantify best.
Being the sharpest is only one of many ways of being best just fyi.
>>
>>4390510
>low mp, noisy, oversized, no screen articulation, shit video, mirror slap and af inaccuracy from focusing off different planes than the sensor and focus shift…
but reddit has nice things and you aint no soi sissy amirite?
>>
>>4390515
You are so ignorant lol he doesnt know about dx mode, sraw and mraw
>>
>>4390517
>what about these 8 things, at least 6 of which op apparently does not care about
Yeah, you sure showed me.
>>
>>4390524
OP doesnt know shit and blobbing is a sure route to quitting

Get a sony OP, EF-FE adapter works fine
>>
>>4390525
>OP doesnt know shit
You don't say... it's almost as if he would do best if he used the 5D2 for a few months to find out what he wants from a camera before he throws $3k at it.
>>
>>4390526
Lol but no. That camera is a miserable experience. They were not meant to be used outside of professional photography. Full stop. Only an experienced photographer could accept that travesty of a blob - because it saved $1000s in weekly film costs, shortened turnaround times, and was immune to photo damage and loss if you kept up on card replacements. CF slot cameras were not meant for widespread normie use. DSLRs got their start as a cost proposition for pros, not as a design photographers genuinely wanted, hence leica is still in business and fuji and olympus were able to force the markets hand and are essentially responsible for the rise of sony (without those two to copy their marketing committee would have never decided on film SLR sized+mirrorless)
>>
>>4390526
>blobbing to find out you hate photography (but you actually hate blobbing)
if my dad offered me a canon blobmera and the bazooka zoom trinity i would say no thanks and buy an fm3a+35mm f2, a pack of trix, and a cinestill developer kit and learn actual photography instead of uhd ken rockwell snapshitting

as a bonus it would have more resolution and dynamic range than the blobmera! imagine that actual cloud detail in a photo
>>
>>4390535
>blobbing
Yeah I never use the socket sets that come in black, they have to be attractive otherwise they just don't turn nuts as well you know?
>actual cloud detail
Use a GND if you're so bad at working towards a good shot.
>>
>>4390518
Enlighten me.
>>
>>4390540
>its just looks bro
Post ragged trenchcoat. A coat is a coat right? Convenience doesnt factor in. A real man simply lifteth his skirt should it be at risk of snagging.

OR, realize DSLRs were not designed to be used for fun. They were released for an era where pros were running $1000/day through pentax and mamiya 645 blobs and desperate for better profit margins. And everyone else was still shooting film, and later compacts. They are horrid to carry around and travel with. It is the tool equivalent of using an air powered drill for an application that demands a lithium battery dremel like electric tools haven't been invented yet - in those days the craftsman used something even simpler and the giant fucking air setup was for pit crews and auto shops doing real volumes.

>use a GND and tripod to cope with how fucking bad early digital is
Lmao you will never stop making excuses for these cost cutting blobs.
>>
>>4390545
>tfw wedding photography costs used to be driven by the sheer volume of film those snapshitters went through and ended up sticking so now dudebris with a7ivs and god forbid r5s (timing? composition? nah spam max fps and crop) still want $5k for a piss easy 8 hour day
>>
>>4390545
>thinks blobbing means you're poor
>early digital
Who the FUCK is talking about first gen DSLRs? Modern cannikon has good DR (haha RP, haha R5II meme cameras) and largely has the same blobby asthetics.
Buy a proper mirrorless and quit being a bitch about spending money
>>4390546
Never a truer statement
>>
OP here.

>>4390495
I’m fine with also just selling the 5dii and buying a used 5DsR for $800 and some decent zoom lenses on Facebook over the D850.

>>4390511
Firstly I am considering buying used bitch. Next I do not want to shoot with the 5D mkii cause the sensor is complete ass compared to a D850. Secondly the best value per dollar to buy imo is the R5

>>4390456
No one asked dumbass Nigger
>>
Buy once cry once
a7c - $800
40mm f2.5 G - $400
20-70 f4 G - $800
You know it in your heart that this is the way, until nikon ZF prices come down more and its not $500 too expensive for its cheap plastic baseplate. 2020+ sony is very good to make up for 2019- sony being very bad. Don’t be a blob boomer overgeared in all the least significant ways.

The R5s specs sure look cool but in real life most of them are useless and canon’s lens selection is a hard split between ultra low tier junk and pricey wedding/sports wank and its one of the few cameras that gimps itself when low on its short lived battery. It’s meant to be used with a gear purse full of batteries and L zooms. At an event. For paid coverage. Then its the best!

Megapixels are relatively useless. No one ever enlarged film for the whole 30+ theoretical mp because it was too grainy. No one prints 45mp 1:1 today either, people just naturally found crazy big prints arent very useful. It’s just used for aspect ratio cropping room if you print often and have to offer each photo printed in every ratio from 1:1 to 3:1 hence cropping heavily to frame. Pro problems!
FPS is relatively useless. The market for high FPS is slowmo video (all of wedding videography lmao) and people who have shit skills
The video codecs are irrelevant to anyone who isnt paid to film shit (non youtube)

You are not a professional snapshitter or else you would have already registered your business, bought your dream work camera, and wrote off 100% of the cost and paid no taxes (yes, you can do this). That means you have no real use for the R5 except filling SD cards. For you its just a lot of money, size, weight, awkward packing, and long term frustrations with
>why cant i have this small prime lens but as weather sealed as the camera its on?
‘Cause canon thinks the features of a 13yo m43 are pro fare only and are not needed unless your primary lens is an f2.8 zoom. They have no serious hobbyist midrange like nikon and sony do.
>>
>>4390571
Also,
Nikon is maybe a year from releasing a z5ii with working autofocus and hopefully better compact primes like they used to make
Consider that
>>
>>4390571
I'm pretty sure people who buy that thinking they get a good kit will cry more than once
>>
>>4390574
The only people crying will be retarded tripfags
>>
>>4390443
>>4390447
With the r5 you also aren't locked into using dogshit glass, but the option is still there to use dogshit glass if for some reason you wanna do that.

I dunno, I think the 5D 2 is a really good camera. I use it professionally just because it's cheap and there's not really anything that newer cameras do that I specifically need. It's a nice shape, with a battery grip its probably my favourite camera to hold, sure it's big and heavy but if you're going to use a heavy lens that's a good thing I think, keeps it balanced nicely.

i used a comparable if not superior camera professionally (em1ii) and it was exactly like this

who are your clients, local dog shows? brides saw it and i told them i would rent a sony (and did)
>>
>>4390584
I use it for real estate. Your clients weren't happy with the photos out of an EM1 mark ii? That's not good at all, that's a really good camera and there's some really good lenses in that system. If you're having trouble getting good results maybe you have some weird setting on or maybe it's a bad lens? I know plenty of people who shoot the newer olympus cameras for work and their photos are plenty sharp for publishing.
>>
>>4390586
They wanted…

Lots of bokeh.
And no flash allowed.
>>
>>4390588
Ahhh yep, I getcha. Personally I think the no flash thing isnt that much of an issue for them, but yeah bokeh is definitely not their strong suit.
