I think we all can get a little self centered at times with our hobby and the photos we take. I thought this thread might be nice to dump shots, names or even Instagram links of photographers who are making it in 2024 for us to consider. New work helps us evolve. We don't need to see the same Daido Moriyama, Leibowitz and Adams shots over and over as inspo. There must be new photographers out there experimenting and being successful for it.

I am admittedly very ignorant about this myself. But I found this Spanish guy doing somewhat interesting "street" work, which I usually don't like: Joaquín Pastor Genzor

I like Tim Flach's non-studio work. Sometimes I'll think I've found a photographer I like but a lot of their work won't be that compelling to me. I'm influenced a lot more consistently by artists.
>>
>>4390672
That's really cool. Nice find.
>>

Just checked out his IG. Have you noticed that almost all the big artistic photographer accounts had huge engagement and were publishing a lot of work in 2023 and early 2024, then in May 2024, their engagement went to around 10% of what it was and many either quit or did a few half hearted posts since then. Flach seems to have suffered the same. I guess all the war stuff shifted and it felt hard to share frivolous art when everyone was upset and stressed about so many things.

Trever wisecup recently got his photography picked up by the new York subway for his urban birding

Greg Girard, he spent a lot of time in Asia, specifically HK. Has my favourite pics of Kowloon, I think picrel is probably my favourite photo ever. I love his use of wide angles. He's probably the photographer I most aspire to be like.

>>4390679
Nice. Like a painting almost.
>>
>>4390677
The pigeon stuff is cool but I don't know how innovative or even interesting his random street portraits are.
>>
>>4390672
What a great shot.
How does one go about getting lighting like that out in the wild? It looks absolutely incredible.

>>4390680
Very cool shot. I was about to say the one with the dog looking at birds looked like a painting, but then saw anon describe this photo as looking like a painting too. Funny how that seems to be one of the highest compliments you can give a photo.
>>
>>4390683
Yeah, I suppose it's because you wouldn't paint something until you got the composition perfect. Conversely one of the best compliments you can receive about a painting is that it looks like a photo, but that would be speaking about technical ability. Saying a photo looks like a painting speaks more about the composition, as technical detail has a pretty low ceiling as far as skill goes with photography. An interesting thought, anon.
>>
>>4390685
Yeah, it all plays a part in it I guess. Composition, subject, colours and all that.
I would still love to know how the dog and bird shot was lit. The background looks darker than the subject/bush area. Like there's a light coming from the left side of the image, but the front is also lit enough that you can see stuff like the bird in the bottom right too. I'm really drawn in by that image.

that's the guy who made the City of Darkness right? My first photography book lol.

>>4390834
What flash
>>
>>4390830
Yeah that's right

>>4390834
Yeah I dunno, if there is a flash it seems fairly weak, I think it's just the lighting from the bakery or whatever is she's walking past on the right side of the frame.
>>
>>4390868
I never really noticed until I went looking for a higher quality version of that image for this thread, but yeaah man she's absolutely stunning.

DURDE LE PERSONE IS MID-STEPPE IN DOORFRAME!
wOW very decisive monument this is a greta photography notable worthy of photobooks publishing

In case it's not obvious, I'm sick and fucking tired of seeing this type of photo. This idea has been rehashed ad nauseam, and it may be cool when you pull it off, sure, but that doesn't make it a good photo and definitely doesn't make it original. I'm a hater for this shit.

every trendy street shitter on ig has been mooching off saul leiter and ernst haas from last 10 years
>>

>>4390681
Fucking Victor Hugo wrote about pigeons and how they're an urban symbol in 19th century. This is embarrassing shit. Photography only collects the spit of other arts.
>>
>>4391281
why are (You) here?
>>
>>4391293
I like photography that's why I hate it and I want to trash it more.

>>
>>4391280
better than anything you've ever shot, faggot : )
>>
>>4391450
I am literally one of the greatest photographer, Joaquín Pastor Genzor.
>>
>>4390691
>>4390683
my guess is that he's got one flash aimed front on and positioned further back that's giving that super flat feeling and the catch lights in the eyes, and then a second flash (or maybe sunlight) from the left of frame which is giving the ferns and the dog on that side of the image the defined highlights and shadows that fall off as you get further into the frame.

But it's also foggy and that's going to diffuse the fuck out of any ambient light, which is probably helping to round out the look and make it less high-key overall.

>>4390679
Why does this remind me of perfect dark zero on the xbox360
>>
>>4390679
Based. Dude uploads his work constantly.
