I consider myself as a "forever beginner" because I had a photography phase when I dig myself a bit into it but not tooo much and finally gave up because I didn't like all that "seriousness" around the photography scene.

AND there was also the $$gear$$ issue

I've got a friend who works in a photo lab and invited me for a « gallery opening » in his lab, first time I attempted to such event. People were in awe in front of the photos but it irked me everytime I thought I could see how much money has been put behind the best pictures. Like they were SO clean, so perfect, so sharp... when I was in my enthusiast hobbyist phase I put all of my efforts on composition, good light and stuff. But I've got modest equipment and it saddens me to think that I will never be able to make a perfect picture even if I've got the perfect composition, subject and light, if I don't have the required gear for it.

Hence the redpill I'm looking for : without wanting to reach for a Hasselblad, how much money do we need to spend on gear to reach that acceptable level of "intrinsic" quality required to make a good to great picture ?

I hope you're getting my point, I only talk about digital photo btw BUT am open to discover film I think, though I don't want to fall into the gear rabbit hole because I know it's real and it's that kind of boring/serious things that discouraged to pursue my hobby. I don't want to make good snapshots, I want to take good pictures if I ever try it again.

skill issue. if a photo is good, it is good. doesn't matter whether it was taken on a cheap digishit or a medium format hassy.

It would be hard to complain about anything taken on like a 5D II or better, so you're looking at less than $250 for a body. Of course you'll also need at least a single decent lens, maybe another $500 or so for a good prime.

Camera image quality has not significantly improved since the nikon d850.

Your photos are noisy blurry shite because you have a canon - the only brand with more IQ issues than fuji because they treat every camera like a sports model (its bad enough for canon to lose 90% of their agency customers to sony despite sony being more expensive overall, and WAY more expensive if you want to go over 10fps - they actually have resolution and DR, not last decades megapixels and forced NR)
And yet
Sony IQ excepting 61mp bodies ~= D750/D810 with a nice lens

lol you do not need a hasselblad/gfx unless you are a handheld landscape photographer expecting clean photos at ISO 12800 or fashion agency shooter held to color accuracy standards

get any ff camera with a sony sensor and a tripod
panasonic, nikon, sony, pentax, all these brands change is af and lens selection (the z6iii, z8, and z9 are canon-ish tho)
WALA, no more digital grossness, no more dull canon sky, no more orange shifted reds, no more shit lenses, just good photos ready for a film grain preset to fuck it all up again

i will be an asshole and tell you, that you are just jealous of someone else life, personally I realized that all I am surrounded with is mediocre boring shit and it's not even worth getting a good camera to capture whatever calls my attention

>People were in awe in front of the photos... SO clean, so perfect, so sharp
You just saw the creme-da-la-creme. Without some astronomically insane luck, the odds are every photog there with featured work has taken thousands if not tens of thousands of shit photos that were discarded.
>I want to spend autistic amounts of money on a hassyblyat
I mean, if you want to, sure, I'm not your accountant. But a camera isn't any good unless you bring it places, and even for moderate enthusiasts like yourself, a high end APS-C or bottom barrel foolframe will set you straight for far less money, bulk, and weight.

Your pictures will be plenty sharp and clean. If they suck it's your fault.
No excuses

my photos are shit no matter the gear but i still have fun pressing the shutter and hearing the camera go clicky clacky :3

people who need to spend thousands to enjoy this are dumb af, just shoot m43 or with old crop sensor dslrs and use it as an excuse to go touch grass

just take pictures of static things
>bracketing gets you more DR then any fancy camera
>stitching / panorama gives you more resolution and detail
>brenizer gives you more dof control
>image averaging for less noise
a tripod is what you really want gear wise
