Is there a good way to do it accurately and for cheap? Phone slow-mo isn't nearly fast enough, and shooting slide doesn't really reveal the true shutter speed if I wish to compensate. Pic related is a little dingus that costs €35 so kind of pricey

35 ogres is a fucking STEAL compared to what these things used to cost

with some electronics knowledge you can build a light sensor from 5€ worth of parts (plus shipping and a couple hours of your free time) that plugs into a microphone input, then record and evaluate it's output with audacity or so
>>
>>4391579
youd want at least like two sensors to notice if your shutter is capping

>Phone slow-mo isn't nearly fast enough
It is though. They've usually only got two sets of torsion springs. Adjust the slow set for 1 second and the fast set for the slowest speed that one uses which is usually 1/125 or whatever. Cut the video to where it starts if you can't into maths.
>inb4 that's not fast enough shutter speed
If it's accurate at the slowest setting, that's a accurate as it's going to get.

Just found this schematic and it looks dead simple, I knew 35 bongbucks was way too much. I'm ordering the parts right away.

You might be able to use rolling shutter. Say the whole sensor is read out in 1/30s, then the time difference difference between two lines of pixels is about 10μs (1/100 000) and 1/8000 eshutter speed translates to 125μs. You should be able to get a decent idea with that if you can time it right.

Here's German DIN norm for shutters: https://www.dinmedia.de/en/standard/din-19015/1042560
the essence of it is picrel, so ideally your timings have to fall in these values, if don't and cleaning doesn't help print out actual timings and use those as settings. For example 1/125 measures as 1/76 so if you want to shoot at 1/60 use 1/125 setting on camera. That's what I do, works great.
Now how to measure. The best way is to do a standalone tester based on arduino and light detecting diode, I've used this one and it works great: https://github.com/hiroshootsfilm/shutterspeedtester
arduino micro is hard to get these days, but there is chinese seeduino xiao (arm based which is funny) and it works great.
Don't have to solder anything, build it on test board

oh and ignore gearfags wanking off that for focal plane shutter you have to have japanese meter for 3000 bucks, just measure in 3 positions with chink arduino meter from link I've sent you and you're golden.

Parts are coming in and I just wanted to show that I'm serious. If it works out I'll make another thread for posterity, maybe post an instructional on plebbit.

In all it's around $5 not including shipping costs and obviously not inclusive of a soldering iron.

Alright I fucked up by ordering some absolutely massive resistors. Digging through my old collection of perf boards to find something that matches 4.7k.

Nvm that was a really shitty measurement because I was manual toggling a flashlight. Here's the dingus in action:

Last reply. I just found the measurements surprising for the OM-1, it's pretty much bang on with no correction needed.
