I fucking hate Alec Soth but I have read/listened all of his interviews, watched all of his videos on his YouTube channel, consoomed all of his photos, read his old blog etc. I am obsessed with this WASP boomer like you wouldn't believe. Post photographers ITT that you're obsessed with.
kill yourself OP, before you harm someone, just sayin.
>>4395507I don't know who Alec Soth is, illuminate me on your hate-fuck relationship with this interesting specimen. Is it the 8x10 that's giving you a stiffy?
>>4395509that is a man
>>4395508Im gon document my suicide on 8x10. that would be heckin ebin, kek >>4395509Alec Soth is a famous American Documentary photographer from Saint Paul Minnesota. >illuminate me on your hate-fuck relationship with this interesting specimen.I am not a fag. Thing is his face looks like father and who neglected me my whole life. He didn't even teach how to ride a bicycle. He didn't teach me how to become a man. Therefor I got bullied and molested. So I hate him. This is why I became a 4chan lurker at the age of 17. In 2016 I discovered /p/. After some months I saw some oldfag shilling Soth's photos but after lurking in the thread I forgot about them. In 2019 I had a really kino idea about a photobook so I was excited to work on it but around 2020 I saw some anon shilling Sleeping by the Mississippi and BOOM there goes my project. After that I became obsessed with him. I started following him on Instagram, watching videos of his photobooks, reading his old blog, downloading all of his photos online and through inspect element and reading/listening to his interviews. I watched his documentary of when he was working on his photobook Broken Manuel and then second BOOM happened. He was so intimate with subjects and so dorky in his real life that I started hating him. Then I discovered his YouTube channel and there was third BOOM. In each video me made feel low iq because the amount insight he gets out of photos is crazy, the likes of it you will NEVER see on /p/. He goes really deep with his criticisms. I can't stand this boomer shit. So I try to do the 180 degrees of whatever he does. I send him messages on Instagram but I delete them immediately. Maybe I am shadow banned, fuck Zuck. Fuck man, if I was in USA I would have pulled up to his studio and told him that I hate him and his shit.

Alec soth is a boring non artistic snoozefestHe either centers a subject in the bokeh slop on an overcast day or takes a photo of some gay/black shit of he’s gone too long without getting obligatory important diversity artist points from the retardsHis mediocre portfolio is the poster child for liberals calling anything art if they can link it to their ideals. And yet i’ve heard he’a secretly a major transphobe
>>4395522>And yet i’ve heard he’a secretly a major transphobeLMAOOOO no way? There was photo of black tranny in his book few years ago. Man the "photography community" is filled with grotesque direction brained freaks. Art Photography is by far the most woke and castrated medium and these are the people who castrated photography like they castrated themselves.
>>4395522>>His mediocre portfolio is the poster child for liberals calling anything art if they can link it to their idealsCan you go more in depth with this?
>>4395531If you go to a poor black neighborhood and take mediocre photos of all the gay people in it, young white liberals will elevate your crappy art solely because doing so is showing solidarity with the equity anticolonialist narrative or whatever. It’s that simple. Marxism says the personal is political so they are unable to spare anything from political bias. You could do bad photos just because you had troubles using a camera and slap on a paragraph about the symbolism later and they would buy it as long as it confirmed their ideals
>>4395536And there's no reaction against this bullshit? Aren't people tried of this shit?

>>4395538Yeah I went and had a look, most of his pictures just look like DP review pics. He leans on large format DOF pretty hard in a lot of his other pics too. Not bad, just nothing that interesting either.
>>4395539>lil broGo back to plebbit retarded fucking zoomer
>>4395544>no argumentOpinion discarded, but concession accepted. Anon crashed out fr fr.
>>4395551Zoomers are the dumbest subhumans ever
>>4395555Okay, zoomer.
>>4395543Sleeping by the Mississippi is his most well known book. Checkout it out. If you don't dig it then you won't like his other work
>>4395559Yeah, dunno just fairly boring to me. Maybe if you're from there it would be meaningful, just doesn't really do much for me.
>>4395563What kind of pics do you like, son?
>>4395559Its /rpt/ tier and proof even doghair could be a revered artist if he took very basic photos of people and managed to add a liberal appeal ie: fentanyl addicts, the homeless, trailer trash that dont get any healthcare. Doesnt even have to be black trannies.
>>4395564Personally, my favourites are people who can use ultra-wide angles and stopped down apertures and still come up with great results. I find that to be really difficult so people like Greg Girard who do it consistently really well impress me.
>>4395563Yeah same for me too. >>4395565The difference between a photo and a photobook is the difference between man and god. Ask /rpt/ to produce a photobook and see them horribly fail. You're cute for thinking that Soth and rpt is same. Study photography for 5 more years and then come back.
>>4395567I'm working on a book, with an overarching, and what I hope to be coherent theme. I'm not really sure if it's going to have a "message" or a "story" per se but I'd like what I have so far captures a consistent style and mood.
>>4395567The tastemakers may have told you this to justify elevating trust fund building corner/landscape fuckwits to money laundering tier but 50 similar photos is no more valuable than 1 good oneWhat is real and what duh art wurld says are two different things with a gulf of nepotism and purposeful manipulation between them. A normal person grounded in reality knows one shitty photo is enough. Someone selling out to art so called culture knows that 40 hobos and 10 trash piles will fellate some midwit trust fund kiddie and prompt him to bust out the thesaurus for a haughty sounding but low-content explanation of the "work". Modern art is self justifying as an institution but not if the art is left to stand on its own. Photobooks are frankly pathetic. You could make a better case for genuinely transformative art and exhibitions. Roll the erwitt pasta.
>>4395569Based >I'm not really sure if it's going to have a "message" or a "story"Don't go full explicit but please have a message. I am sure you have things to say. >>4395571Kill yourself subhuman
>>4395573You have no rebuttal. Mere coherency is nothing more than the bare minimum that nepo-babies must meet to pretend they are somehow different from a teenage girl with an iphone. It is regardless no higher than a single photo. Coherency cucks doubtlessly belong to the cult of mere intent. Why? Because mere intent is worthless, the supporting pillar of the pretenders ego. >i totally meant to do that
>>4395573>I am sure you have things to sayDon't we all? I have some really general ideas for themes but I'd like to keep it a-politicia and something that can be enjoyed by as many people as it's relevant to. I've also never published a book before so I don't even know how to do that, or if it would financially ruin me to do so, considering I have next to no following at the moment.
>>4395579Subhuman there is no art without coherence. >>4395580Read Understanding Photobooks by Jorg Colberg. You can download it from anna's archive or maybe libgen. Don't take his advice on "form and content" seriously because his taste is boring and retarded. He is a typical upper class athiest/materialist cosmopolitan sheltered libtard who has spent his life in colleges so he knows and understands fuck all about life. But read carefully what he has to say about the production and financial phase of photobook. >I've also never published a book before so I don't even know how to do thatJust copy from great photobooks. Do what they did and try to alter it just a little. Originality is a meme. People who aim for it usually make shit art. Being inspired is primary.
>>4395584That’s like saying there is no music without sound to defend absolute nonsense
>>4395590Our conservation are always shit flinging contests. I don't know what we're fighting about this time.
>>4395591You can’t explain why I’m wrong, you just say just so, art world. That’s what. Coherence is needed to form the foundation of meaning but doesn’t necessitate it. Coherence can even exist in one single photo if you are good. And the book is an overrated format with increasingly weak impact as people become accustomed to themed instagram feeds, with its greatest fans being the worst artists (like soth). It is not the be all end all, it is entry level. This was settled in the 70s. Higher presentations transform photography beyond taping polaroids to a diary. You will see when you leave the fujeicafilm bros kicking dead horses sphere.
>>4395594photobooks are for cheap sellouts. they make more money for a hipster nobody than a serious exhibit that utilizes form and space instead of a glorified mixtape. that’s it. if you arrange photos of your cat on the wall in the shape of a dog you’re silly but still exploring what photography can be better than someone dumping everything similar in a book (if you were paying attention vivian maier was mockery, not exaltation)[EXIF data available. >>4395594>Higher presentations transform photography beyond taping polaroids to a diary.Photobooks are much more than that. There's sequence and a theme which is pinning everything. I think of photobooks as a tree. You can get lots of fruits some will be big and some will be small. But it's better that way. Other option is to miles and miles of rhizomes and life is a;ready schizophrenic mess. I have my tree. A tree is has way more long life and look cool and strong. I like the idea of tree.
>>4395597What if I make a log cabin with the tree?
>>4395604Then there will be no fruit. But yes a log cabin is good too if you want escape. Just don't talk with me about rhizomes. I am tried of this mess.
>>4395597Photobooks are very little, it’s a low tier and overdone thing and its greatest proponents remain the worst artists for a reason.
>>4395610I don't care about its "greatest proponents". I just consoom whatever I like. I have a personal canon which include none of these liberal arts educated upper middle class americans.
>>4395571A lot of buzzwords to say you've never actually perused a photobook or gone to a photography exhibition
