Opinions on shooting 12,800 ISO?
>>

Seems too high. I cap mine at 3200 because if I need anything higher than that, I don't think it's worth taking the photo (the scene is probably bland and flat).

If you cannot get more light in and there's motion happening then why not. I sometimes shoot live shows in a very dark environment and to get a 1/250 shutter with a 1.4 lens you have to bump the iso to 6400+ quite regularly. But if you're shooting objects that are mainly stationary.. just get a tripod, or become one with ibis.

I still think iso 800+ is high. Problem with digital cameras these days is that their iso performance is TOO good so you need to really bump it up to get grain in your images. That or pp some in.

literally, skill issues

AKA micro four thirds ISO 3200? Standard practice if you've used a camera ever.

Oddly high ISOs only look bad on high megapixel cameras regardless of sensor size. I won't deny that FF ISO 3200 looks better than MFT ISO 3200 or pretend equivalence means anything in 99% of real life situations. But if you have a high megapixel camera like an R5/A7RV/Z8 or XT5/R7 high ISO noise looks fucking terrible with horrid - sharper, but with nasty green blotches everywhere even after NR and more like sandpaper than film grain. On normal cameras high ISO noise looks a little soft and grainy but the colors are still good, like film.

This has the odd effect of the OM-5 being better at ISO 3200 than an A7RV or Z7II is at ISo 12800.

Ok but hes right, 20mp m43 has less chroma noise fogging left in hair/foliage/fabric than the equivalently higher isos on an a7riii or z7 and the grain is smoother

64 or bust.

But seriously. I have mine capped at 12800. At least I get the shot no matter how noisy it and dark it’ll be.
