Been getting back into film recently. Trying to ascertain the condition of this guy >>4463190

idk it's just fun.

I got some stuff on my other camera I haven't pulled off yet. the lab also has a roll of expired film. found another one that's been shot but not developed. then they'll get the roll that's in the above camera as well when I can finish it. They're a bit slow but it's OK. small local place. real mom and pop feel.

Based D5600 enjoyer. You can get good night photos but you'll want a prime lens on it. I'd also argue you made that image overexposed and made it look more like a phone HDR photo than a true night photo. Lower the exposure by 1 stop and it'll look better.

Yes definitely get a cpl for cars unless you want a flare effect. Alternatively underexpose 1/2 a stop and bump it back up in post as needed.
>>
>>4463988
CPL is almost absolutely necessary for cartography. But you gotta remember you need to get the angle from the light (sun normally) at 90* or close to it and also rotate the filter as you change your positioning. A bit of work but you get used to it and it's worth it.

Please don't buy the shittiest CPL if you're using anything longer than a 50mm; we've had several anons show that the bottom-barrel filters will make your photos look like smeary shit because of the sub-optimal glass. i.e. don't slap a $8 amazon CPL on a $300 lens and expect it to hold water.

I’m indifferent to it as-is but perhaps if you were *much* closer to that guy the composition would be more compelling, more interesting. All the buildings in the background would ideally stay in the same perspective but if you were closer to him and he filled more of the frame on the right-hand side he would also seem “larger-than-life,” like another building dominating the landscape. Talk is cheap, though.

I went with the 18-35mm. I suppose it’ll be better for taking photos on tight city streets. Turns out, though, that SDXC cards are not compatible with the K10D. Neat!

the one below (>>4463979) is Pornic, southern Bretagne to some extent, which is interesting aesthetically, as soon as you cross south of the Loire the roofs are usually tiled and not slated but it's a bastard zone where you can have both (as in pic related (pic of myself taken by the sis))

I've visited many areas in my country but Vendée is one of the few I haven't set foot in. Looks much less interesting for photography than Bretagne, marais poitevin could be a cool place though. Have you tried taking photos of Vendée?

unfortunately not with good gear (fucking iPhone 5 SE) but I plan to revisit the "Port du Collet" at the northernmost frontier of vendée in Bouin, in the middle of a zone called the "Marais Breton" (counterintuitively), it's so photogenic you have no idea

They don't even take their own work seriously.

The fact that the basic tools are needed to be able to even learn the art obviously evades you. The self-published book is basically mental masturbation much like degrees from a diploma mill or bought trophies, things losers buy to cope with their own failure. They sent the photos to publishers and got rejected, they went to college and flunked everything, they tried to compete in sports and weren't even picked for a team because they were so bad. So now they buy their little pathetic consolation prize. They pay to get that photo book or that zine published, and they're content with the courtesy compliments they get.

Let me guess, you're self-published.
It's the same cope as that Mikey Cyrus song about buying flowers to herself. The merit in flowers or getting published is that you were judged as worthy by someone other than yourself. In case of publishers, by an authority on whatever discipline who is the arbiter of what his publishing house is wise to spend resources on. The self publishing circlejerk isn't exclusive to photos, there are hundreds of amazon print on demand authors who don't sell a single copy of their drivel.

>>
>>4465259
How you type this argument implies that you only value photography if the person taking the photos is making money from them. That's basically nobody here. You imply that anybody that self-published failed to garner any attention from a publisher. I would imagine that most people that self-publish small runs of work never even sent any photos at all to a publisher for evaluation. Why would I care what a publisher thinks if I'm not seeking their money? Why should I care what you think if you aren't giving me money for my work and that is your metric of value? I would rather create the art that I want to have made and share it with interested parties without having to deal with your inane bullshit or that of a publisher. Shoot, print, share. It's not that hard to understand.

I once again implore you to end your life with haste.

Your entire spiel is just the very first logical fallacy they teach in college. So much for the educated left!
(Then again... back when the educated left was a meme and the hot topic of every propaganda article, *I* was the educated left.)
I do not value the opinions of publishers. They are false authority. No authority - not ONE - is a necessary logical good. You can make much more money many other ways with photography if that's all you care about. If you just want fame, well, grow up, bitch.

Protip: Publishers are often behind two things. One is the curve. Two is the ass of their next star. Don't be a sellout.

No, it is like a man desiring to be on a label so he can publish his music and make a career. Yes, photographers at the top do have careers. Imagine hating people for having ambitions.

>an irrelevant circlejerk
Not irrelevant to me. I want to be a critically acclaimed photographer to achieve immortality. I care about photography.

>>4466135
>music is actually merit based unlike irrelevant, dead "arts" like photography
Nice cope. There are photographers who still sell 3000 copies of their photobooks and gain tons of recognition and money.
>>
>>4466138
Photography is not based on merit, however.
>>
>>4466133
They just post records themselves on YouTube or Bandcamp
>>
>>4466140
Music is also not merit based. All of pop stars are industry plants. That doesn't mean shit. Art music still exists. Then there are clever pop stars like Charli XCX who find ways to penetrate into mainstream.

If you do good work and you know your audience then you will gather attention. An artist has to be sharp minded. Knowing how to market yourself is a key skill of being an artist. This lone wolf starving hermit artist is literal fiction. Nobody is coming to publish you. At. first you gotta make moves, network and market yourself.

>>4466141
>bandcamp
There is no such site for photobooks. Distribution of music is totally different from photography. Still new hotshot bands like Black Midi were signed with labels.
>>
>>4466141
