I sometimes fold giant cranes as you can see here >>617867 and I just wanted to showcase some pictures of them. Here's a picture of what it looks like before the folding. Each paper is 6 x 6 inches and for each giant crane, I do a layout of 6 x 6 papers which ultimately makes a 3 x 3 foot square. I just tape each little piece of paper together to make these behemoths.I will not be counting these giant cranes towards the 1000 though they would certainly help boost my numbers. I hope I won't be regretting this statement.
And one day, I decided that a 6 x 6 paper-sized crane wasn't big enough so I decided to do a 10 x 10 paper-sized crane to make for a whopping 5 x 5 foot sized square.

Yotsuba is such an old manga and chapters come out at a snail's pace... much like making 1000 cranes. And I just finished episode 9. It was really nice to go back to Nana's dilemma with wanting to repeat time again and again. And it becomes more understanding now that we better know what happens in Starlight at the end. I hope this doesn't sound morbid or anything but I do hope that Karen and Hikari become separated at the end like in Starlight. But it probably won't I'm guessing. My estimate is that it'll take somewhere to the tune of 50-60 hours to finish all 1000. It depends a lot on how nice looking you want them to be. The biggest thing I've learnt from the surface level origami I've done is that it is effort in vs effort out. Folding itself is (generally) very simple, but getting as close as possible to the perfect fold takes some patience. I'm not planning on keeping the cranes once I'm finished, so I'm not focused too much on getting super crisp folds.

Cranes are very simple to fold, so you can really use whatever paper you find to fold them with. One ream of A4 can easily be cut down into 2000 squares if you want some easily accessible paper. There is also something special about origami made from found paper, so you could also get creative with were you get your sheets from if you're short on money. I guess what I'm saying is don't let it get to you too much. I've never liked the whole "it's not about the destination" outlook, but I'd hate to see you quit the journey over this. It is a very cool thing to dedicate yourself to that few people rarely try
