He never was. Right wing does not exist in America. To be right wing in the original European sense means to be a reactionary, to react against the revolution and the Enlightenment. America is founded upon both of these things. To react against it means to be anti-America, anti-founding father, and anti-constitution. To be truly right wing would mean to suspend the democracy and to hang the entire congress for treason. Anything else that calls itself a right wing movement is just a titular LARP. Americans do not understand these things so to them right wing is economically capitalistic, as opposed to Obamacare which is literally communism or something like that. Trump has never not been right wing under this framework. Neither has Biden who has stated many times that he is a capitalist. Trump has zero desire to react against the Enlightenment. His followers have zero desire too, in their vast majority. These voters are mostly boomers with fully paid off real estate whose capitalistic nature compels them to cargocult immigration as long as it is "legal", because that turns them into multi-millionaires. Trump is a good leader and he panders to exactly that, and his followers are good LARPers who LARP as xenophobes but are in reality BBC queens who are ready to take in the whole world as long as that keeps their retirement portfolios green. That right there has never been "right wing", it was merely center-capitalist. The democrats are center-socialist who're doing the same thing for an increase of party votes. One does it for the money, the other does it to flip states blue, but neither actually cares to attack the revolution that created the US government.
