If democracy is the peak of civilization, why was the height of the roman empire (pax romana) achieved under the imperial system? This is literal evidence against LIBERalism, yet so many seem to totally ignore the fact that Rome was a Republic for a great time (achieving a bit, but not that much) and then burst into a great and powerful empire ultimately to all back to the worship of the meek plebian in the Christian religion.SAD!
>>472866931End of history pseud garbage is just that. Democracies(and more importantly the superior form, republic) have always been around; Whether it be some Greek city states, Italian merchant republics, Rome and plenty more examples. They are if anything, strictly inferior in larger scales(cities seem to be the best).
>>472866931Democracy is an illusion. People are too lazy and stupid to self organize. Is always the more enterprising and smart that take the power and organize all the rest.

>>472866931The Roman Empire was demonized and the Republic glorified in times of pro-democracy. The founding fathers of America considered being compared to Julius Caesar a bad thing. In times of populism the Empire and Caesar are glorified and the republican considered corrupt and antiquated.
>>472868378Ultimately the Republicans were factually weaker and the Empire prospered less under that systemThat being said, they also basically fucked up Europe by bringing in millions of shitskin slaves which ultimately led to the creation of the Christian literal slave religionSo there are definitely downsides to the model, they succeeded so insanely that they ended up bringing about the conditions of their own demise
>>472868588More on this, you can see just how alien they made Rome at the timeGenuinely horrific consequences, luckily the ostrogoths fixed that to some degree, but the Italians will never be Central Europeans like they used to be in the Republican period
