I don't see the motive.The reality is probably scarier and darker than conspiracy -- namely, the Secret Service and local police are incompetent so orchestrating something like what happened in Pennsylvania is probably not as difficult as it seems after the fact from the perspective of normal people too afraid to confront the consequences of incompetence. I work at a supposedly elite organization yet the vast majority of my colleagues come across as incompetent. In reality, they are nihilists so deeply disillusioned and miserable that they don't even pretend to care and management feels similarly. That inner, psychic state is antecedent to performance; it manifests as ostensible incompetence. The idea that Crooks just went for it -- sloppily and haphazardly but nonetheless -- doesn't seem as crazy to me as many people seem to believe.
