If you go back far enough in the history of a specific dish, you will find foreign influences. The hamburger that the Germans brought to the United States was nothing like the modern burger. The modern burger was made in America by perfecting whatever the Germans brought over. Same thing with Swedish meatballs and their Turkish origin, or Turkish baklava which has origins in ancient Greece.

For example, the Italians have chicken francaise, chicken alfredo, chicken parmigiana, etc. None of thse dishes are from Italy (maybe influenced by Italian cooking). The first of those is very tasty. The chinese have plenty of such dishes, the most famous being General Tso chicken.
