On July 26th, 2024, the United States has issued a Memorandum on the Deferred Enforced Departure for Certain Lebanese Nationals.What this effectively means is that all Lebanese citizens who are in the United States (unless they left the US recently or are already on the way back to Lebanon) are free to extend their stay for as long as necessary and as long as the Memorandum is valid (18 months).The United States Government cites "humanitarian" reasons, citing the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.What is glaring and uncomfortable about the issuance is that this was issued for the passport holders of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan before the Taliban took over the country, and that was by a few weeks, as the U.S saw the inevitable collapse of the government and the country.The U.S most likely sees an inevitable invasion of Lebanon by Israel and has thus issued this Memorandum as a way to handle the state of affairs for Lebanese citizens in the U.S
