I've dabbled in a ton of stuff: retail, small scale manufacturing, import/export, logistics. Some of them got decimated by retail segment getting a heart attack kek in 2008, some got fucked by distributors closing down shop because of it, thankfully some got sold instead of just closing shit down. The biggest issue is that this sort of work sucks when doing it in a post-soviet state. I could write books about the shit I had to deal with and how it annihilated any rose tinted glasses one might have. Stories of people stealing $20 worth of products and ghost you 2 days before they would receive $900 salary is like one of those things people don't believe and won't understand without having personal experience with soviet/post-soviet labor culture. The biggest issue is how hard it is to find more or less normal people to work for you, so when yet another crisis hits you you don't want to just fire them and cut the losses, because it took years to find them, so you go and plug holes and waste a ton of money to keep them afloat, etc.
