As long as nobody is selected for or against the population will never change allele frequency so it will never change except within a relatively known range by random mutation. But you can't remain static and just never have selection again because over time that results in problems of its own. The risk of rawdogging space colonisation would be a far better choice if our other option is to eat the bugs, tolerate the defects, and to hand over our power to make war on the oppressors. A species which cannot make war is a slave species, no matter how good the initial offer there will always come a time when you regret not having the ability to say no.
