People say he should have given the hero/charisma key to Trump, and the scandal key should have been a fail for the Biden admin. But the model uses a fairly strict critera of bipartisan acknowledgement for these keys to be assigned as true. If you start messing with the model to better reflect reality in 2024, then it is no longer the same model. It wouldn't have it's claim to fame of retroactive predictive success anymore. You'd have to go back and reapply the model to all past election to see if it still had predictive power overtime, and almost certainly it wouldn't anymore. It was originally tuned using historical information and data to be as accurate as possible.So yeah Lichtman was bias this time round, but even if you remove his bias this election still proves that the model does not have reliable predictive power. It is still useful to think about the issues the model raises, but the whole theory behind the model, that the American electorate does not respond to political campaigning and that an election result is determined by the context and performance of the incumbent administration, is bunk. Elections have always been more complex and dynamic than Lichtman claims.
