I picked up a copy of the 42-43 volume of his diaries (start of US involvement in WW2) but dropped it because of glaring omissions in the introduction regarding the Soviets; the author was clearly going to selectively edit and translate for post war propaganda purposes. Naturally anything I find on YouTube paints him as a cartoonishly evil super villain that killed his kids for fun and not because, idk, Russian rape goblin hordes would have ensured they die screaming. The portions of his diaries I've read come across as a bit of a know it all dweeb, but hardly a monster. Not looking for sources that deify him either, the third Reich definitely was not the evil empire they say it was and you can't cruel a broken, demoralized people into hope for the future (and thus productivity and creative genius), but they clearly did things wrong by the fact that they fell to forced of evil and uts important to be impartial in the autopsy if we hope to improve.
