Power company has a fucking monopoly where I live.

I just pay the bill every month anyway. That or freeze right?
>>
>>489018752
do solar panels work where you live?
if yes, then there are batteries you can buy to store the electricity as well.
>>
Where is the electric service not a local monopoly? I think it is everywhere.

>just install solar panels
28 years to break even, panels last 30 years. no.
>>
>>489019028
I rent. Wish I owned.
>>
>>489019097
>Where is the electric service not a local monopoly?

Dont know. Hopefully somewhere. Otherwise its pretty unamerican in my opinion.
>>
>>489019214
Technically I can choose my "supplier" for electricity and each has different costs, most of them are pretty scammy. The carrier cost is always the company that owns the power lines.
>>
>>489020003
From what I understand, these clinger entities are just middlemen for billing logistics, they only "supply" the billing statements.

This enables them to get people to sign contracts for their services, which they can use to masquerade as the supplier. Like a payday loan place isnt a bank.
>>
>>489018752
You voted for that faggot
>>
>>489020467
I do not remember ever doing that.
>>
>>489019097
This, it's a meme.
>>489019028
The batteries are actually what costs so damn much.

>>489018752
>>489019131
Where do you live?
There are options.
You could switch to geothermal or even set up a wind or water turbine. Maybe use propane or gasification to run your own generators, get some neighbors to buy electric off you.
>>
>>489020694
>Where do you live?
>There are options.

In an apartment complex. My other options with my current income are another apartment complex.
>>
>>489020818
Why are you heating with electric? Natural gas is usually cheaper
>>
>>489019097
>local monopoly
They're all (((legally classified))) as "natural monopolies".
>>489019214
>pretty unamerican in my opinion
Very much so. Electricity could and should be free.
>>
>>489021224
No gas lines here.
>>
>>489018752
Stop living in a gay state
>>
>>489021401
>Electricity could and should be free.

Right.

What are the straight states?
>>
>>489021526
The city or just your apartment complex?
You should probably just move, what does electric heating even cost you
>>
>>489021851
The "coke" states
>>
>>489021943
I have the cheapest setup I could find that isnt too far from my work. Put it that way.
>>
>>489022045
How are they less gay in your opinion?
>>
>>489022045
What's their fucking problem??
>>
>>489022294
>Put it that way.
Well now I think there's a more interesting way to put it

Are you stalking a guy that lives there?
>>
>>489018752
Blankets are depression proof
Also your computer probably heats your whole basement so you got that
>>
>>489022442
Eh? No.

I was just saying I have researched all available options and I have found the cheapest setup. Regardless of gas or electric heating.
>>
>>489022499
Thread is about the monopoly of the power company.
>>
>>489022367
Jews. Probably
>>
>>489022552
That sucks

Are you in a commieblock or like those things that are two houses side by side?

If you can move to a center apartment away from exterior walls and just Jew of everyone else's residual heat.
>>
>>489022499
>basement
Nigga pls
>>
>>489022907
Complexes rarely afford you a choice of unit placement, as they like to only list one as being available at any given time, so that there appears to be a scarcity and more demand than supply. At least in my experience of being a renter for longer than I would prefer.
>>
>>489018752
>Power company has a fucking monopoly where I live.

Same. But it's not even an organic monopoly, it's enforced by totalitarian government. And what's more, we're getting raped with electric bill for it.
>>
>>489023220
Maybe talk to the owner and tell him when an interior unit becomes available that you'd like to switch.

You still hasn't explained the lack of gas lines. Guess if I was a slumlord commieblock owner I would want gas in the place either.
Here most people use gas.
>>
>>489023309
>And what's more, we're getting raped with electric bill for it.

I cannot see how rape can be avoided without competition. It is unamerican to be ruled by a monarchical regime.
>>
>>489023402
I dont like the idea of leeching off of my neighbors heat. And as for gas, I have no craving for explosive and asphyxiating gas surrounding my living space.
>>
>>489023869
>I have no craving for explosive and asphyxiating gas surrounding my living space.
Dont be a faggot, faggot
>>
>>489023968
Ive already been through an apartment fire. Call me combustion phobic if you will, that is reasonable.
>>
Just buy your power company’s stock congrats now you’re getting paid
>>
>>489018752
Get a solar system with batteries and tell them to fuck off
>>
>>489025442
Why should I be forced to buy a power company just because they hold a monopoly?
>>
>>489025689
You’re not forced to do anything I’m just giving you an option to own your power infrastructure
>>
>>489025511
>solar
not everyone lives in the southwest. my region gets less than 40 days of direct sunlight per year
>>
>>489025744
You were presenting that as a solution to the local power company monopoly.
>>
>>489021747
Big users could subsidize small users just like Craigslist.

Having a single large point of failure like an electric grid, irrigation network, or railroad is pretty communist anyway. More important than gibs is for the voters to have some control over how it is run.
>>
>>489026179
Yes transmuting the local monopoly into your local monopoly is a solution. What’s your idea? A thousand different companies all with different standards running around? A tree falls on a power line and 5 companies worth of trucks pull up to try and figure out who’s actually authorized to do the work? One street belonging to one company and the next belonging to another?
>>
>>489027691
>What’s your idea?

I dont claim to have one. I just said the power company has a monopoly, and i just keep paying the bill so I dont freeze.
>>
>>489018752
Government sanctioned monopoly. because fuck you.
