I wager it is because the Russian Empire was slavophilic and supported the locals against Austro-hungarians and Turks.

We were not strongly connected either with Russian Empire or the Soviet Union, they did not interfere in Austrian-Hungarian Empire (previously known as Austrian empire, and before that the Holy Roman Empire), and we were non aligned in Cold war, with exception of first 5 years.
Slovaks were in the Eastern Block and liked it, not sure what their history with Russian Empire was
We see ourselves as Slavs and we see the harm the west has done to Slavs and the world, it is that simple
