Because it was a senseless war that shouldn't have happened. The average American didn't get anything as a reward for all the effort, nor did any soldiers aside from stuff they could have gotten anyway, like a college education.Then, since the majority of Americans in 1940's were of germanic heritage, this was a civil war between our own race along ideological lines.Poland got duped as well. They fought on the same side as Stalin, who had massacred Poles at Katyn. The UK only declared war on Germany, even though the USSR was just as guilty of invading Poland.
