The power of Christianity used to come from unity and shared identity that it gave people for a long time. It used to be that an attack on one Christian society was an attack on all of them and other nations could help the one which was attacked. But that sort of thing began to disappear with Protestant Christianity and the Enlightenment, the house of Christ became divided against itself and freedom of religion help it become even more so. I'm not a Christian myself and I look at this through a mundane lens, but the decline is sad to see anyway.
