As for knowing what each politician has planned, they speak and read newspapers. Representatives and neighbors reach out to them and keep them informed. Inheritance tax is literally a death sentence to family run farms. Farms are land rich and cash poor, so if the passing of a generation means Uncle Sam wants to come in and touch the kids and take their goodies, they loose the whole farm or have to sell of a chunk for the liquid capital to pay.
