I talked to a Maori elder once at Parihaka- the peaceful settlement built amidst thousands of acres of lush farmland. You might remember the govt attacked the settlement, imprisoned the men, raped the women and stole all the land.The elder said the government intends to spend 10 million building a visitors centre there. She said they don't want a visitor centre, "they can just give our fucking land back".
