I suggest using Linux mint, watch a tutorial on how to get started on youtube
For vidya you'll have to enable proton on steam (no idea why it's not enabled by default), look up how to do this. Lutris is pretty good for non-steam games, look it up too

Just get a linux image you can boot from a usb drive and try it out.
Ubuntu is well liked. There are plenty of others.
Then you just use it until you've gotten used to it.

>>518373622
Yup. Compare system calls... this diagram is very old now, it's even worse. A lot worse in fact, with all the new telemetry. Since Wine just translates calls on the fly rather than having to emulate Windows, Linux can literally LARP as Windows faster than Windows can be Windows. You can free up tons of processing power. Almost every Windows game and program I run on Linux is faster, some by 25%. Microslop got so greedy it sacrificed tons of performance for datamining the goyim.

1. Make an external back up of everything you have (you should this even if you aren't changing your OS, hardware can and will fail eventually)
2. Read this https://igwiki.lyci.de/wiki/Babbies_First_Linux (it's /g/'s wiki) to get a clue about Linux so you can decide if it's worth changing OS or staying with your current one. I also recommend searching how well-supported is your hardware in Linux. Nvidia GPUs and Broadcom chips usually require proprietary drivers that not all distros are legally allowed to distribute in their inatallations, which in worst cause would make you do a workaround to install the OS (like connecting to ethernet to download the missong drivers).
3. Once you've chosen a distro, try it in a virtual machine or in a live USB (most distros have a "demo" mode where you can run them from an USB without installing) to see if it' the correct one for you. There are programs like Rufus that create live USB with one click.
4. Once you've decided on a distro, use a live USB to install it. Most user-oriented distros allow you to install them along with your curent OS, so you can have windows and linux at the same time and don't worry about losing windows-only software.

Most people recommend Ubuntu and its children (Linux Mint, Zorin, elementary, PopOS) and Manjaro as fistros for newcommers because they include more things preconfigured for you (like drivers and codecs). Personally I recommend Zorin over Mint since it puts more effort in facilitating the installation of software for users (it even includes WINE preinstalled and a tool that recognizes common windows apps and recs you Linux alternatives).

>don't have this problem on linux
Linux is a janky meme OS for incel computer nerds and discord trannies who like tweaking things and fucking around with the command line because they don't have anything better to do with their lives.
Most people who use computers are just doing web-based shit and don't need anything more complex than a potato-tier chromebook, much less the hassle of constantly having to fuck with some linux meme distro.
Anyone who is actually a productive member of society who has a real job that actually requires the use of a computer MUST use Windows, because their job requires the use of Windows-only apps. No, you can't successfully run them under linux in some half-assed virtual environment emulator thing, and no, that janky open source alternative some discord tranny programmed in xer free time is not a legitimate alternative.
Macs are for faggots and retards who think Apple shit is a status symbol.
Even if they do remove the option for the creation of local only user accounts, you will still be able to set up 11 Pro without logging into a windows account by using the option to join a domain to set up a local user. They aren't going to remove this option because it would fuck up all the businesses that use Win 11 Pro. If you don't know how to change Win 11 Home to Pro, this whole discussion is above your paygrade and you should just sign into your microsoft account or get a chromebook.
>>
>>518376263
You can use both at the same time. Some users like to keep an offline windows install for games and apps that don't work on Linux and a Linux install for everything else, with an extra partition/drive for shared documents.

Most boomer still think you can't right click in Mac or use excel. Microsoft is cooked, but not because of Linux, because MacOS has come such a long way. Boomers love having all their texts and photos and phone shit synced perfectly to their computer.

There is really no value left to Microsoft they are resting on their laurels while Indians wear the skin of a once great American tech company.

Just go into your drives and disable it from within Windows. Remove it from the drive list. It doesn't change the disk, just stops it from showing up in Windows. You don't need to do this for Linux, you can access the Windows drives all you want, it has no problems with NTFS and doesn't constantly try to rape your system to datamine you like Windows does.

I guarantee you that I know more about all of this than you and most of the people in this thread.
Linux enthusiasts are just a bunch of midwit computer nerds who use a pointless alternative OS because it makes them feel like they are better and smarter than the normies. But they aren't.
If you have some specialized usage, like a server, using linux might make sense. But objectively there is zero legitimate reason for the vast majority of the population to use a linux distro as their normal, every day, daily driver OS. You just WANT to use linux because you enjoy fucking around with your OS because you like to feel smart. Fucking around with your OS because you chose to use some alternative open source OS is not efficient or a good thing, it is an unnecessary waste of time.
Most people are only using computers for shit like checking their gmail and browsing the web and would be better off with a chromebook because all they really need is effectively an dumb internet terminal.
The rest, who actually need to run a specific program on their computer, are almost always far better off with windows than with linux, because the program they have to use is usually some windows-only thing that can't realistically be used under linux.
All of your issues with windows like bloat and telemetry can easily be disabled and removed in two seconds with a couple of clicks.

It you can afford it I'd just spend a couple hundred bucks on a second laptop. It can be older, much older even. With all the non windows 11 compatible computers out there about to be unsupported there should be a floor on eBay and Amazon.
Install on that. This removes the pressure to make it work on the first try. Go through the learning curve while you still have a working windows machine. Eventually you will find you stop using the Windows machine and you can wipe it.

Gayming needs WINE unless gayme has a native client. Gabe Newell had been mad at Microshits for quite some time and Valve has contributed to maintenance, so many Steam games come with pre-packaged wine bottles, but those may not always be optimal.

Linux: Very light on its feet and runs your game by pretending to be just the essential elements of Windows required to run the game. The bloat doesn't exist.

>How do I pick a distro?
Understand that "distribution" is a bundle of programs that are configured and tested for your convenience by people (maintainers) for whom it is a kind of a job (sometimes on top of their actual job). You're getting the same kernel, and you'll be installing the same programs to run under your OS, so it's not like distro matters that much. But levels of hand-holding vary, as do levels of keeping shit current.

Biggest holywar is systemd, but unfortunately all the popular distros have it. But it certainly beats JeetOS.

You keep saying this without providing examples. You can install anything just the same as with Mint- from the repositories, flatpak, snap, and AUR. Updates are the same process too. From a user experience standpoint there's no difference. Things have changed and anyone who insists that Arch is harder than Mint to use is either a gatekeeper or Mint user who is too scared to try Arch and realize there's no difference anymore. Arch is just as user friendly as Mint, but faster.

Now explain this step by step to an user who has never touched an upgrade tool in his life and just lets windows update run in the background (he doesn't know what it does, but the notification said that his PC will be more secure after he reboots it so it should be fine). Just because you are smart enough to read a black screen and google your way out of a technical problem doesn't mean that others can do it with the same ease.

I haven't paid for an OS in my entire life. I'm not paying money for a series of programs just to make my computer function.

At this point the only reason you’d even want to use windows over Linux is if you REALLY need to play slop shooters like cawadoody and battlefield. Literally all you need to do is install steam, basically every game runs out of the box. Skyrim? Runs out of the box and installing mods is easy if you use wabbajack. Elden ring? Runs out of the box. Nightreign works fine too, played with my buddy last night. Cyberpunk? Out of the box. The only game I needed to jump through hoops to get working was abyssus and that’s just because it refused to capture my mouse cursor, I just installed gamescope and it worked fine.

Anyways, if you want to try out Linux just use Linux mint or Ubuntu, or if you’re more of a power user grab nobara or cachyos. The two big DEs, KDE and Gnome, support HDR out of the box so you should be up and rolling no issue.

>>
>>518378772
If you are grandma level then Linux Mint.
If you are the average gamer then Cachy OS, Elementary OS, or Manjaro Linux with KDE Plasma desktop.
If you are a power user with the time to learn your new OS and tools, then Arch Linux.
Aside from Arch Linux, the rest are pretty much plug and play just like Windows used to be.
If you run into any problems, then a quick search engine query will yield you a solution to your problem, usually in the form of something to copy paste into a console to quickly solve it.
Linux is not as hard or problematic as people make it up to be.
I'd avoid Fedora Linux and openSuse Tumbleweed because both are corporate and heavily integrated with the very Microsoft you are trying to escape.

Be warned that most competitive games with PvP that uses anti-cheat are intentionally disabled on linux by the game developers, even if they can run just fine you will not be able to connect to any anti cheat servers.

The faster and more stable claims are kind of an old tech boomerism from the Windows 9x days. But it's a completely different OS than the windows that is used today. 9x was abandoned because it was a failed abortion of a venture in making a consumer idiot-proof OS. Whereas NT/2000 and later windows were adapted from an enterprise OS and had already been developed for some time with efficiency and stability in mind. It lost a bit of that back when it was "Vistafied", They dropped that shit for Windows 7, but then made 8 and 8.5 "visatfied" again. But Windows 10 was another return to form. But I'm fucking done with "vistafied" operating systems. So when I'm forced to leave Windows 10 I'll go Linux.

Linux users are such fucking midwits I swear.
You won't admit that your species is hands on and wants to have an intuitive gui built into their OS.

I could learn the syntax in linux. I grew up using DOS, I play around with 86box for recreation with emulated dos machines and shit. I do not want to use linux on my main computers that are meant to just get shit done. I don't want to commit to learning the syntax, and I certainly don't want an OS that's unintuitive where I have to look up help to fix shit that always breaks.

With linux you have those two options. Commit to learning the syntax to actually understand the OS which is what about 1% of you guys do.
Or look up help and copy paste into the terminal which is what the other 99% of you do.

Linux had more than 30 years to make windows 95 and failed. You guys are pathetic and have your heads very far up your autistic asses.
