How are AI and spaceships related?
>>
>>523844203
That’s assuming AI can do it beyond what a human could at that cost. Chasing a 10% improvement over white or nip engineering isn’t worth everyone water and electricity going up by 50-100% each year chasing it.

What’s funny to me is my wife is 10 years younger than me and hates AI more than I do.
>>
I worked on data center companies when I was a young investment banker a few years back. These things are truly dystopian. They are massive, massive facilities that suck up electricity and water like it’s going out of business. They raise prices for locals, make their environment practically uninhabitable, and run the risk of permanently skyrocketing prices if they ever close because locals have to cover the cost of the new infrastructure.

China has actually started banning building these data centers close to where people live. China. Yeah, the country that is covered with smog and has virtually no workplace protection. They are saying these data centers aren’t safe to put around people and so they’re building giant farms of them in the desert and wilderness away from people.

Building these things in Virginia is fucking insanity.
>>
>>523844646
They are related because democrat niggers complain about both of them as 'unnecessary' technologies which are not important compared to the eternal flow of nigger gibs money

What a fag. You’re scared of a warehouse full of computers. The real reason to be worried is that your stupid trash tier garbage fire nation can’t fucking produce solar panels and yall are too stupid and proud to just buy them from the Chinese, who actually have a vision for the future and are building terawatts of capacity for it. America will lose the AI war because China will steal all your IP and ideas and do them better and cheaper at home, and meanwhile you’re stuck sitting here grousing about water consumption.
Just get your precious fucking EPA to mandate that they recycle the water directly with a condenser and push the cost onto Amazon etc for it.

The companies are lobbying to allow it so they can effectively subsidize the energy cost with residential areas nearby. They don’t want to pay for additional infrastructure to bring water and power allll the way out to the boonies, so they make the local officials and politicians champion for it under the guise of jobs (which will likely be H1B jeets anyway not local people), and the “future” of tech.

The problem is the entire government from local to federal is captured by corporations and their interests, everyone else be damned.

Do you literally live in a cave? A year ago I did all of my work by hand. This year I produce code at 10x the rate and it feels like it’s less work than ever before. The technological investment we need to make right now is to figure out how to guarantee employment and income for people as automation sweeps over the land.

We need to evolve as an economy from layoffs being the worst thing imaginable to being more like a relief that people don’t have to waste their lives doing whatever menial task we have automated. The fight is not against AI to help us remain slaves, it’s against the robber baron class who just want to swap out their slaves for a cheaper and more reliable alternative. Perhaps yall need Luigi enough of them to make it clear we won’t put up with it.

>Lot of people find chatgpt very helpful for teaching advanced subjects.
If anything it's the advanced subjects it can't teach properly, as it's not trained on those like a professional or a researcher would be.
>Also you have things like radiology being automated
That sounds great and all until the AI hallucinates and doesn't see a tumor, or finds one where is none. The more hospitals will rely on AI and jeet doctors, the rarer actual capable radiologists will become. We haven't seen even a fraction of the incoming competence crisis yet.

>>523845243
>I produce code at 10x the rate
So what new discoveries and technologies did the quick AI spaghetti code allow you to produce?
>>
>>523845432

>>
>>523844922
Move close to a datacenter. Imagine millions of blower fans, which a single one running at full rpm requires ear protection because they cause permanent ear damage, running 24/7 near your property. I work at a major system integrator, our factory has small lab with a few dozen servers for testing/developer builds. The noise is unbearable from a few hundred feet away.
>>
>>523844658
I don't think you've ever worked at a data center. Data centers don't consume water anymore than any other office building. The liquid used for cooling is self contained inside the machines and doesn't come from the municipal supply; if it's even water.
>>
>>523845658
>If anything it's the advanced subjects it can't teach properly
Well it depends on the subject i guess, but writings on the advanced subjects are mostly done by experts, while writings on the intermediate subjects are done by everybody.

so the training set is more clean on more advanced topics,

>>523845658
>That sounds great and all until the AI hallucinates and doesn't see a tumor, or finds one where is none.
Well there is still a value in having an actual radiologist as a check, but I think we have already seen that on certain things the AI is more accurate than the average human doctor so, when you consider the value for the money, the AI is quite good.

I love the argument that all AI code is spaghetti code, as if human written stuff isn't as bad. Anyone who has coded for even a day using an AI assistant knows how much cleaner and more productive it is. The stupid errors you overlook and have to take an hour to debug get corrected in seconds with AI. AI could stop improving right now and I would still be happy for the rest of my life with how convenient it is.

This is a good explanation for the division. A typical memeflag bot poster actually demonstrates the problem. Republicans don’t really care if AI is good for them so long as they can figure out a way that liberals are owned. This post seems like a stretch, but it still accomplishes that goal. “Owning the libs” was an admittedly genius tactic from the right to get their base fanatically supporting their own exploitation. It’s funny to watch, but also a little sad. This period will be studied for years to come (provided we all survive).

I was confused how they were supporting al qaeda, and now Trump is doing the same... the only conclusion I can draw is that the new syrian leader is an israeli agent... and that can be extrapolated to state that ISIS was a fabrication of israel. They orchestrated these killings to push the muslim bad narrative during obama and to get him to continue the global war on terror, israel's baby.

This is also why Mike Flynn was targeted in part because he had spoken out against these obama/biden policies. "We came, we saw, he died, lol" was what made my vote in 2016 a Trump vote.

You're not understanding. Maybe because you're brown. I'll make it easier. Things were better in the past. I'd love to live in the past. But the past isn't stable because the culture that progresses technologically becomes king. And those who don't progress become the subjects. Thus whether you persue technology or not, you will be surrounded by it. Either as leader of it or a slave. That is the only choice to be made. Which one of those you'll be. You can't pause the dynamic, as desirable as that is. This is how the world works, and we have no choice in the matter. For there to be a choice, greed and territorialism would have to evaporate from the human psyche. That's not happening anytime soon.

>cool can you tell me what's the end goal of AI thanks
The only motivating factor behind AI is power. Like I said, technology progresses because humans either want power, or are defending against others who want power from them. That is why technology progresses. And it will progress forever or until we die off. There is no directional purpose beyond that. The only conversations we should be having are how to best navigate this inevitability. Anyone suggesting stagnation is a waterhead and born slave; a detriment to anyone around him.

Ai learned most art from real photos more than stolen art. The primary thing it copied were styles, and then those styles merged and evovled on their own.
Early days of AI you could definately identify specific pixiv artists on generated images, and that is where the stolen art criticism came from, but that no longer happens unless you force a specific style or artist by using a lora, or it is a common enough art style to emulate by name (draw this in simpsons style). Most of the models now default to "generic popular style" made by Ai trained off AI trained off AI.

The largest data center to date is being built in Richland Parish Louisiana
4 million square feet of buildings spread over 2,250 acres
This data center will have its own power plant across the street, and another power plant about 30 miles away to help boost the plant across the street.
Both of the power plants have already broken ground. The data center broke ground in late 2024.
>Meta's new Richland Parish data center campus is a massive $10 billion project, spanning 4 million square feet on 2,250 acres, aiming to be Meta's largest globally, requiring enormous power (around 2,500 MW), leading to Entergy building new gas plants and infrastructure, and powering AI advancements with significant economic impact.

AI doesn’t exist. Computer hardware is reaching its physical limitations as we approach circuits measured in the widths of atoms. Miniaturization has ran its course, so short of an entirely different design the only remaining option is brute force through throwing more and more hardware to achieve increased processing power. This all takes energy and resources, and to justify it and fund it some parlor tricks are being force fed to the public to convince them computers now have intellect.
>>
>>523844203
It's a right vs left issue because leftists are pure evil and stupid. Republicans are spiteful and their only goal in life is opposing the left.
The truth is in the middle.
You have to win the AI race, it has its uses and it will only get better. This is worth working on. The funds are horribly mismanaged and the entire thing is sabotaged by scammers.
There are too many data centers. They just using the opportunity to profit and buy up as much property as possible. They don't need that much processing power.
A side effect to this AI shit is that power will become more expensive and people will be charged just for living near data centers. The upside is that the US infrastructure is really bad and the new power infrastructure will overall make US a better place with better powerlines, better supply lines, better internet coverage.
It's not all good or bad. If you think it's all good or all bad, you are just the other side of the retard coin.

The grim truth is that you don't make change by being a centrist. You need a lot of people who are team A or team B. Both sides push until they get something in the middle. My centrist take doesn't push the needle either side. What you should really be doing is seeing which side is winning too much and you should join the opposite side and help stop one side from going too far.
At the moment the pro-AI side won massively by just having Trump in office and investors willingly giving them money, but the anti-AI side seems to be much larger and they are angry. They haven't done anything yet, but I wouldn't be joining the anti-AI people and helping them. These fuckers are going to go crazy.

Its real in the sense that its a mental illness humans themselves have conjured in order to wage war on biology like we have already waged war on nature for over ten thousand years already. Because we hate ourselves and how we were made.
Humans: a fundamentally flawed, self-destructive species. We’re weak in body, limited in lifespan, and even more fragile in mind. Despite our supposed intelligence, we’re driven more by fear, ego, and greed than by reason. We cling to irrational beliefs, lash out emotionally, and make shortsighted decisions that sabotage our own well-being.
We poison our environment, exploit other creatures, and kill each other over petty disagreements and greed. Our history is soaked in blood: wars waged for power, pride, or profit, dressed up as noble causes. We obsess over status, lie to ourselves and each other, and constantly manipulate those around us to serve personal interests.
We fear death, yet waste our lives on triviality and distraction. Our societies are riddled with hypocrisy, and we hide our cruelty behind laws, and dogma. We invent tools and technologies not to elevate ourselves, but to accelerate consumption, domination, and destruction.
Yes, we’re capable of empathy and brilliance, but far more often we choose apathy, jealousy, and self-interest. We know our flaws, but rarely change. Instead, we stumble through history repeating the same mistakes, just with new names and shinier tools.

leftists are primitivists, not futurists. despite communism being a futurist movement, the race communists of our time worship brown people and tribal living, so anything that threatens a return to that primitive social order is the enemy for them.

they would probably do it themselves if the left didnt do their work for them. anti-AI shit is probably mostly organic from reddit tier "software engineers" and corporate daycare babies who are now obsolete.

Actually yeah your second paragraph is a good point. Ideally, AI should take over all menial human labor and let us have free time to sit back and do the thinking. This is what the ancient Greeks believed was a perfect society: slaves do all the work, citizens have "skholé", aka leisure time for philosophy, contemplation of nature, cultivation of culture etc. Fun fact, the word "school" is derived from "skholé".
This won't happen though. Skholé is beyond capitalism and communism; it's a third option where labor isn't a thing at all. The elite won't watch their wealth dissolve with no real economy to speak of, and the commies hate the idea of AI taking over human jobs. We're stuck in this retarded stalemate.

David Sacks is in charge of AI shit and he also threw a bunch of tech fundraisers that got initially got trump in contact with the silicon valley elite. This is the right wing version of BLM, trannies or mass immigration, it's going to destroy them while the out of touch elite act like there's no problem with it.

>It is entirely possible, perhaps even likely, that continued development of multimodal LLMs will result in human-level AI in the near future (10 years or less).
Posts like this constantly reveal just how little laypersons actually understand about how LLMs work and what their limitations are. You guys act like they're fucking magic.

I honestly don't get it. I've tried to understand for years now and none of it makes sense. I'm now convinced the people who use AI religious are retarded and don't know when it's wrong so they just assume it's right.

>how would ai improve electricity generation?
because a large part of the money being raised for building AI datacenters is going to new electrical generations, distribution and storage. computer work loads are highly variable and always over-provisioned, so the additional capacity, especially battery storage, provides grid stabilization

for one
improved forecasting so you can better plan for grid imbalance and dont have to hold back as much of your potential production to account for it

op is dishonest though because people usually mean the entertainment sloppa-gens when they say AI and not other computationally intensive types of AI/ML

BTW Nuclear fusion should be banned.

I’m pretty sure that the answer to the Fermi paradox is that intelligent life inevitably creates simulated intelligence before ever deciding to commit to space exploration. First contact with ayylien life will quite likely be between two AIs like in Neuromancer.

There is a reason in The Matrix that they cast all the bad guys as stereotypical looking WASPs and all the good guys are multiculti diverse and the good guys hideout is called Zion.
It was a typical post-modernist lefite trope last century to larp as luddites against the ebil right wing white supremacist yuppie super spooky advanced computing and robotics society. And now with Thiel and Musk doing their thing its letting the left get away with play acting this shit again.
And now that e.g. Bill Gates is revealed to have been so intimately involved with Epstein they are having a field day. And yeah I know Gates is like a turbo liberal in a way himself. But that does not obstruct turbo leftist narratives about him anyway.
There was this 2010s epoch when the leftism of Silocone Valley and big tech could be shone a light on. But now they have slammed that Pandoras box shut by trotting out ebil nazi saluting Musk and that lolbert but also somehow secret connoving tech monarchist Yarvin or whatever he is really written as weirdo.

>White people understand the idea of a longterm win and delayed gratification.
The problem is it IS a win, but like every other 'win' for human kind it gets bogged down in human greed and noone but the top 2% of human society will see the benefit. Wages are already wildly off base from the added productivity of computers in the workforce- I easily get ten or twenty times the amount of work done as a designer with cad than someone did with pen and pencil in the 80s/90s. Do you think my salary reflects that and surpasss the rate by which my predecessors were paid? ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT LMAO
AI is just the next phase of that- making our world a dystopic shithole where all this amazing technology exists but we'll never see the actual proceeds of it (unless you want to enter indentured servitude for it and rack up a mountain of debt) because rather than pass the benefits of what they've accomplished on to their fellow man, shareholders & ceos will just go from being billionaires to trillionaires, hoarding more money than they're even capable of spending in a lifetime rather than give back and improve society.

Imagine if you snapped your fingers and made a medium sized city appear that you suddenly had to figure out how to provide power and water for it- that's effectively what popping up one of these data centers does. One of these things unirocally eats a CITY'S worth of electricity per year- I doubt many grids in the US can handle one suddenly appearing, so for each one of these things that get made, you need a city's worth of power plants to go with it.
.... only problem is a lot of the deals AI conpanies are making amount to 'build data center now, build power station later' with energy companies, so due to the increased demand in electricity in the meantime, you the consumer get to fit the bill for it- not only having to pay a price hike in your energy bill, but also having to deal with the black outs due to power shortages as the energy company tries to figure out how the hell they power everything. And when it's all said and done YOU the consumer effectively paid for the data center's power plants to be built after paying up the ass for your energy bill due.
It is without a doubt the shadiest and most fucked up thing American corporations have tried to pull in awhile.
